High MOI putters

Recently saw online a Cure Putters RX3 putter. They have RX4 and RX5 but I figure the RX3 is a smaller head, and the others might be so big it would seem weird. Anyway, they are touted to have high MOI. Anyone know anything about this putter or high MOI putter? In theory, makes sense. I first started thinking about this when I saw all the Taylormade Spider putters because I note that these putters appear to have weight both behind the face (by quite a bit) and also left and right of the target line. Just looking at the design, in theory, it seems that it might naturally keep it on line. Assuming you swing it down the proper path for a good line! Do you have a high MOI putter?

Yes, l got a great deal on an Odyssey Indianapolis that I cut down from 35 to 32 inches.  Putting may be the strongest part of my game, though the two courses I've played on both have Bermuda greens.  Which is pretty unusual since they are at opposite ends of the country.  5000 miles apart!

I had a Cure putter a few years ago when I was chasing the "MOI Dragon" and yes it was very stable but the Cure heads are made of aluminum which doesn't lead to the best sound or feel but if you want that MOI stability then sound and feel isn't something you should be after. That's something I found with a lot of very high MOI putters the sound, feel and sometimes looks are less than desirable to many, granted there are some brands that can make a more familiar shape a higher MOI putter like what NCW does with their weighting. 

 

With that said I don't really go after high MOI putters these days, a simple Anser or Anser 2 style head is good enough for me with a good mix of looks, feel and a solid MOI number.

Don’t chase MOI. It isn’t worth it. There are diminishing returns on it too. I’m convinced the biggest benefit of a mallet for most people is more space for alignment features. Alignment matters a lot more than MOI. 

 

Throwing tons of weight way back and out to the sides can make the putter sit funny and can make it really awkward to use on long putts. Your distance control will take a lot of work. There is also enough evidence now to suggest weight back (vs more forward) can really mess with your dispersion.

I also chased high MOI mallets (or highest possible MOI mallets) years ago. In the end, it didn’t work out for me. 
 

My issue with the high MOI mallets is 2 fold. One. They are hard to release due to large head shape. Two. These mallets usually pretty large, making my aim a bit weird. 
 

I’m switching between blade and mid mallet nowadays.

Totally agree - lots of diminishing returns with getting to "High MOI" - whatever that means. If you are really chasing MOI I think that NCW is the best way to go. They can make a pretty high MOI putter in any shape with traditional feel and sound. - Disclosure - I am a NCW fan boy.

I’d love to hear more about which NCW you have and how it feels off the face. Some of their crazy grid face designs look cool but I wondered how it felt and how it would hold up over time.

I haven’t been able to putt well with the large mallet styles with weight way in the back. 
I putt much better with my ping putter that has the heavy tungsten weights up front. Feel more stable to me

I have had my share of high MOI putters. While I prefer a mallet, I don't necessarily chase MOI anymore either.

 

I go for what is the most natural and stable for me during my stroke. After all my recent putters, the Sik Flo C and an older Scotty Cameron 6m have been the best feeling in terms of stroke. They don't wobble, open, or go off track, they are very repeatable, and, again, just feels natural for me. 

 

One is aluminum faced, the other steel with grooves. Feel is definitely different, but I don't mind either when I know I'll hit center 9 out of 10 times. 

 

Find what fights you less during your stroke be it a blade, mallet, or anything else.
