Vintage Ping Bag

I’ve been working on putting together a mint set of Ping clubs just for display. Here is what I finally gathered:

Both great ideas. I searched all over for a Ping bag with the color shown but I just could not find anything out there.

You needed one of these!  I had a white one also but sold it this week.  I prefer the black myself as the white ones don’t age well.  I have a red, white and blue vintage ping bag also.

 

sweet set you have there.  All new old stock? Great find.   Fyi it Looks like some are ladies….the red gripped ones which are under size /ladies grips.

Great looking BeCu’s! I love those Eye2 impact stickers on the woods.

 Glad to see others with vintage Ping rigs. I went late Eighties too with a Grey and Black L8 bag. I’ve been practicing and playing a lot lately and find myself putting this set in the trunk as I head to the course more then my other sets. I  Re gripped  everything with MCC +4’s and shot my personal best last week. 

A couple of observations on the Eye 2 laminates. The Eye 2 driver paired with a Wilson Duo had average drives of 245 to 250 yards while swinging easy and not trying to crush it. My woods are Black Dots and I believe the driver is 11 maybe 12 degrees. It’s also easy to hit off the deck and I was getting an l old school ball climb albeit 3 wood trajectory, but it’s fun to watch. Also realized I went 2 entire rounds without losing any balls straying off line into the woods! 
Personally for whatever reason, I’m not so self conscious about teeing up the Eye 2 woods in front of my buddies (compared to the standard eye rolls I get with Persimmons) probably because they are a no nonsense dark color, have a quirky shape, and if you were standing behind or off to the side they could pass for a modern hybrid.  
The 5 wood is extremely useful out of the first cut for any lie that looks like it might shut the face vs using a long iron (essentially it’s a hybrid). The Eye 2 irons just simply work. It’s form and function over aesthetics and they get the job done period. Not nearly as buttery as my Wilson Staff’s, but still feel very good. Enjoy em!

Stunning.  BeCu Eye 2s 1-LW is a holy grail of Ping collecting, especially in that condition.  Lovely set overall too!

Beautiful just plain beautiful--- I would not dream in my wildest dreams of playing them down here in this salt and sand environment---

I have Charlie Rymer's old '90s staff bag. Charlie has on the PGA Tour, worked on the Golf Channel and now has his own golf show. He is a pretty funny guy.

My basement bag includes Ping Eye Two BeCu 1 > W and an S2 sand wedge.

The 1 iron through W all have matching serial numbers, are red dot .75* flat and 1/2" over length with Z-Z Lite stiff shafts.

Putter is a 1966-67, 85029 Dale Head Anser with old school red Ping Plush head cover.

Charlie is originally from the Ft Mill SC area. When he left the GC he moved down here to North Myrtle Beach and is doing some kind of local golf show which I have not seen. He is also doing some commercials for Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. Even though I am from basically the same area I have never met him. He did some promotion for a Charity golf event in NMB last year

My grandfather retired in the the mid 80s and was in too poor of health to golf. But the company he worked for gifted him a set of Eye 2s with the woods.  He gave them to my father who then died young and they sat in my moms basement.  She claims a pop bottle exploded and she had to throw the bag away.  Thank god she saved the clubs.  Any way from the best of my knowledge the bag they came with looked exactly like this.  With the double pouches in the bottom. One day I’ll get a replacement!

I saw those last week online and saw they sold.  Guessing they were ordered as womens clubs or a junior based on the gold lie angle and red/undersized grips.   Are they standard length?   My brother got the same eye set in gold when he was a kid.   New old stock - great pick up!
