Golf Bag for 12 year old Junior

Hey guys trying to figure out a golf bag for my son who is 12 in February. He currently is 4'10 he needs a new golf bag and I am stumped on what to get him. I am siding with the Ping Prodi G. But here is my issue and maybe its me being cheap. I am afraid If I get him the Prodi G Bag I will only get a year out of it and then have to buy a new one. What are your guys thoughts or suggestions. His Driver is 40 3/4 inches.

My daughter is the same height, and uses the same length of driver (roughly).  She has been using my Taylormade FlexTech for a few months, and only her 60* wedge is a bit too short.  And when I say a bit, I mean a half-inch (it's 32").  She's getting a new bag for Christmas (check out 2nd swing on eBay, auctions are steals), and I get mine back (like it matters, I haven't played since March).  

 

FYI, I've found some great deals on Cobra Ultralight bags on Amazon.  If you get them "like new" or "very good" they are going to pretty much be open-box models sent back that were repackaged in amazon boxes.  These bags are light, appear to be made of quality construction, have plenty of pockets/storage and have five dividers.  I've seen them as low as $125 pre tax (shipping is free for prime members). My son is getting one for Christmas, as his worn-out Cobra kids bag was bought used and he's been using it two years.

If you guys can find a better deal on a quality bag than this...kudos to you.

 

This is the exact Players 4 bag you'll see in the PGA SS...except it doesn't have the Titleist script on the large pocket.

 

It also has an internal zipper inside the small pocket whick allows you to access the very bottom inside of the bag...for cut up pool noodles or stacked towels...to get your club height correct.

 

For $99 with free shipping...this is a no-brainer.

You found a sick deal for sure!  Funny that 2/3 bags they are selling are in Detroit Lions colors (being a Michigan-based store, makes sense).

 

2nd Swing has had the non-Titleist-script Players 4+ bags on sale for $150 for a few months now for $150+tax/shipping and I thought that was an OK deal, but Carl's deal is far superior.

Ping does make that Prodi G bag (which is a Hoofer, though I'm not sure how the quality stacks up to the men's version?) in 30" and 34".  Carl's is selling them for $119 with free shipping (on everything at Carl's right now).

Yea I saw that the deal that jj9000 found has me intrigued. By the way have any of you guys been to Carl's Golf Land it's amazing I used to live in Michigan. Great store wish they had them all over the United States so much better the Golf Galaxy.

I grew up in suburban Detroit, so I was spoiled with Carl's--was PGA Superstore condensed down to the best parts with a better customer experience.

My son's 12 standing 56", and currently using the Sun Mountain junior bag.  It's a wonderful bag and have been very happy with it.

Hoofer or Hoofer Lite is definitely the way to go. I'd recommend the Lite for a junior golfer.

 

For those concerned about the price... Unless you just abuse it you can easily get 5+ years out of one of those bags thus making up for the initial costs. Before I bought a Hoofer Lite last year I had an older model that had probably seen close to 1500 rounds. It was still in great shape, and the only reason I bought a new one was because the color had faded to the point where the once navy was more of a pale bluish-grey.

I ended up finding a Callaway chev lite bag for 65 dollars used it will serve him well.

My 13 year old (5'4") and 16 year old (5'9") have been using the Sun Mountain 2.5+.  Light golf bag that holds up well.  The 16 year old prefers the 2.5+ to his high school team bag.

 

Sun Mountain also carries women's models with shorter bag heights.  My wife has the women's 4.5 bag.

I ended up getting my guy a Hoofer lite.

 

Wanted a sun mountain junior bag as one of his golf buds has one.  They are either out or have stopped making it as its not on their site any longer.

random but useful trivia for junior bags.  The adult Mizuno bags are around an 1.5 inches shorted than most all other manufacturers.  So that's a great bag that will then last them for several years, vs buying a JR. bag and then having to switch in a year or two.

Mizuno bags from my experience are terrible.  Juniors that play a lot .have to replace their bags once or more a year anyway.
