LOL, don't raise your hand during a session, ask one of the instructors at the break. ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, you're sure to have a good time. I've been to many and they are a real treat.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

My next piece of advice is to sit near the front of the room. I get there early and drop my stuff off at a spot in the first or second row right onย the center aisle. Then, head for the donuts and coffee.

I'll be attending my 1st USGA in-person rules session in March...really looking forward and might try to bring up this question to them...

Which one are you going to?ย  I'll be in Richmond for the March 4-7 Workshop, my first time for the in-person sessions as well.

You remind me of a ski trip to Beavercreek many years ago andย breakfast in a motel. ย I had never seen a breakfast buffet before which seemed to be entirely composed of doughnuts, resplendentย in a technicoloured ย variety of icing. ย In fact, I'd never seen doughnuts of any kind for breakfast before.

In Denmark pastry is an essential part of a morning buffet, although not the main part. I have experienced pastry at buffets in Europe also in Spain, Italy, Turkey, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, France and Belgium, maybe also in The Netherlands. No doughnuts, except tiny ones in Madeira a few years back.

You could add the UK to the list as pastries are commonly available at buffet breakfasts in hotels. ย But not doughnuts. ย That's an American 'delicacy'.

Clever clogs

Before I left the UK permanently as a 10 yo (er, some time back) this was a phrase I heard a lot. I could never make sense of it's derivation because the only place I know that wore clogs was the Netherlands and I had never actually seen clogs in my life. So there you go, just sharing one of the early mysteries of my life, but rest assured it wasn't one of the 'losing sleep' kind.

Presumably just the Brits' love of alliteration, although I doubt the Dutch version has the same ring to it.

Though I'd heard the expression used in Suffolk when I lived there, I didn't hear it later in London or South Wales. Used by Newby suggests it's a Yorkshire term. Think, Last of the Summer Wine. ๐Ÿ™‚

I lived on the opposite side of the Pennines. We had wars with those tykes.

I think the Danes also had clogs - my wife has a pair of red ones from her childhood - my father-in-law was Danish.

They were widely worn in the cotton and woollen mills in Lancashire and Yorkshire and were wooden soled because of the high humidity required to processย the yarns.
