Perhaps he was thinking of Endo, who will forge on their own name and for others (Bridgestone, I believe).  Pretty sure that Miz and Srixon do their own.

From comments around here over the past year as well as youtube "info", I'm 99% sure the ZX7 are forged by Endo.

Bumping an older thread … I had the 223s in the bag at the beginning of this year and have switched to a ZX combo set: ZX4 5 iron, ZX5 6, 7 iron and ZX7 8-PW.

To me, the ZX7s are considerably more forgiving — I kind of wish I’d just gone with them throughout. But I’m steep. That seems to be the difference here. The V Sole is magic for my swing. I don’t lose much if I come in fat and they just get through the turf phenomenally.

However, I am finding the Srixons to be low-spinning to the point that it’s a little problematic for me. I’m wondering if a shaft change might help. (Been there, done that, on ball changes.) They go a mile, but I’d rather have more spin.

The 223s did launch higher for me, and seemed to spin a touch more. Actually though, the Mizuno irons from the last couple of years that I’ve liked the most were JPX 921 SEL. They spun a bit more and gapped better on the long end. Still, the difference between Mizuno irons and Srixon is the sole, and the Srixon sole is just better for me, so I really want to make this ZX set-up work.

Maybe a ball change could get some spin back?

Shafts in and of themselves won't really alter spin much.  Sure they may make you present more loft at impact because of a change in delivery, but in all my testing if keeping the heads and lofts the same a shaft really only changes RPM by 100-250 RPM or so(depending on which iron you are talking about).

Best way to get more spin out of an iron is by changing your ball or the loft on the club.

I think these are two separate things: Sure, shafts in and of themselves won't change much when tested by a robot. But their profiles can definitely affect a player's delivery in much more significant ways. Maybe I'm more sensitive to shafts' bend profiles than you are. But that's what I'm finding with the Modus 120X -- for whatever reason, the softer feeling closer to my hands seems to be causing me to shut the club face down too much, kill launch and spin and over-draw. I've talked about this in another thread, but I've compared them side-by-side with a set of Mizunos with S300s at the same range session ... as well as compared to my wedges and fairway woods ... and found that the problem I'm having really is limited to the Srixon/Modus combo.

I've had success with the Modus 120X before in a higher-spinning set of irons. And if I was a better golfer, I could probably make the adjustment to these now. I'll keep at it, and am going to be messing with some lead tape.

I'll say again, been there, done that with a ball change.

I pointed out a bend profile CAN make your delivery change.

For instance, in woods, I need a severely stiff handle, anything else and every once in awhile I will hit a chloroform or waffle house ball(smothered and covered).  I am much more susceptible to weight more so than anything, next is bend profile, and last is flex.

This is for me.  You may be most sensitive to bend profile, or it may be as much as weight, or less or more, everyone is different in how they respond.

This is why asking for shaft advice on an internet forum rarely works unless you happen to get a suggestion from someone very similar to you.

To say I was shocked that Srixon chose this shaft for it's stock offering, would be a huge understatement, I see way more people who don't like or don't fit into that shaft than those that do like it.

Never, adjust to a club, it almost always ends poorly.  However in the end trying a bunch of shafts is an expensive venture(I did it with graphite, so I am speaking from experience) and asking people on the internet who you have no idea how any parameter affects their swing will not get you the answer you want.
