Why carbon drivers (specially Callaway) cracks?

Just watched a Matt Blois video on youtube (formerly of TXG), featuring a Cobra marketing rep. In summary, the rep goes on to say that when you design clubs to have extremely thin faces and be at the C.O.R. legal limit, they will fail over time. It's just something we have to accept as a tradeoff for the performance. A thicker face would last longer but you won't get anywhere near the ballspeeds and distance we've become accustomed to.

Thanks for sharing this and you're absolutely right.

I probably had unrealistics expectations over the durability of those products, and there will be always this trade-off between performance and durability (guess the same of Formula 1 car engines).

Anyway, on the key point here, my son got a new (different) driver that he will now start to practice and compete with it.

Would like to thank all of you for the feebacks and comments.

Wish you all a great 2022 full of Golf!

Plenty of Titleist driver and fairway failures. No manufacturer is perfect. Do your best to take care of your equipment.

Callaway replaced a GBB Epic that cracked at the top line of the face. They replaced it with the most current model at the time (Mavrik). Could not have been happier...A+ for Cally in my book

That should be under warranty and Callaway has great customer service. Now I'm thinking here new account, no pics, slandering a company with good reputation.

Anyone else getting red flags from a troll?

Callaway in my experience has the best customer service in the industry, they've replaced stuff for me that they probably shouldn't have.....

Trolls are everywhere!

I have a Callaway RAZR fit extreme 9.5 degree driver, carbon crown BUT a titanium body. Never had any problems. I love this driver. It's a 2013 model.

I've been looking on eBay for a used Callaway low spin driver to try out, gotta tell you, l'm surprised how many cracked relatively new Callaway drivers are for sale, warnings prominently stated about condition of item, so responsible sellers.

I'm thinking that in order to sell product, manufacture's are sailing very, very close to the design window, if you marry that speculation to a two year warranty period, and given the price of a new driver out the showroom, I for one am not thrilled about the trend.

To my friend in Brazil, who started this post, I had a good buddy who purchased a sleeve of Callaway balls from the pro shop, played a handful of rounds, and had it crack, split open mind you, after a drive. He photographed it and contacted Callaway, but no response. He was very upset. The thing is this incident did not take place in the USA. Coincidence? You decide.

Check in with Callaway customer service. My driver cracked within a couple months of purchase and they sent out a new one immediately! They just ask for a credit card on file in case you don't ship back the damaged one.

Just curious. What if you think it’s cracked, they send you a new one, and you send it back, and it’s not cracked?

This one was bought in PGA SuperStore Orlando in Jan 2019. So, yes, warranty expired, reason why i'm searching for a new driver for him and asked the group for recommendations. Need to mention that I just bought (Nov21) a Rogue and I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm more of a weekend player and not a competitive athlete, like my son.

Does he use the headcover during the round  (put it on the driver after every hit, etc.?  All companies make products that fail sometimes.  I had an original Ping Rapture that cracked.  It  had very little use on it.  Ping replaced it with a  Rapture V2  (this was after I owned the driver for nearly 4 years).   I still use Ping drivers.  I have had a couple Callaway drivers that were great as well (Razr Fit Xtreme, Big bertha Alpha, and Epic Max LS).  I sold them, but not because they weren't good  (just decided to stick with Ping).

I wouldn't bash Callaway because a driver cracked.  If you are that concerned, pick up an all titanium driver for him like a Ping G425  (can be had at great prices now), a G430 Max, a G400 (one of the best ever, or a G410  (cult following).  PXG drivers are very good and they get discounted fairly often.  Recent Titleist offerings have been top notch.
