Pushcart Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I just played my first round today walking/using a push cart and loved it. I've been wanting to start walking the course instead of just riding but have some lower back issues so would prefer to not just carry. I've read around on here and done a bit of research but was interested to see if anyone has any specific recommendations or conversely have used carts they really don't like. I'm not looking to spend crazy money and the one that seems pretty solid to me right off the bat was the Caddytek 3 wheel that Costco sells.

I use a stand bag so I'm not sure how that impacts what would make the most sense either. Appreciate any feedback or input

I have the Caddytek 3 wheel version.  I have the one where the front wheel can swivel.  It's been great for me last year.  I put many miles on it and still works great.  I really like the swivel wheel version as it is more maneuverable, but that's personal preference.  It's easy to push, folds up easily and fits my bag perfectly and securely.

I only have very minor gripes.  If you are taller and like the handle all the way up and have umbrella attachment, then it can interfere getting a club from the bottom left... but this could be because of my bag shape though.  Also I wish the cooler was bigger.

Stand bags are no problem.  The claws holders are adjustable and so is the length of the bungie.  So the cart can fit many types of bags.  Also I find that the legs on my bag don't touch any part of the cart, so no worries about scratches.

I too have back issues but love walking.  I started using a pushcart for a few rounds but because I'm slightly bent over at the waist while pushing, it was tough on my back.  I'd rule that out as an issue before buying one. I eventually bit the bullet and bought an electric that follows me around and allows me to walk "normally."

Highly recommend this one.  Going on 4 seasons with it and no complaints.  It's more than half the price of the Clicgear.  Only downside it that it has a foot brake rather than a hand brake.

And I only use it with a stand bag, Titleist Players 4.

I can't speak to the durability of the other brands, or the availability of replacement parts for them, but I have a Clicgear 2.0 that is 10+ years old and still going strong. One of the small strut tubes broke a couple of years ago on a Bandon trip (fortunately, I was literally walking off the last hole of the last round when it snapped), and it was a breeze to order the replacement part from Clicgear. Installing it wasn't quite as easy, but I'm probably the least handy guy in the world and even I was able to figure it out. It was like a $10 fix, and I was very happy to have that option instead of buying a new cart.

This is the feedback I was looking for in regards to this model. The Clicgear seems great, but I'm not playing 54 holes a week or anything and the value of this one seems ideal for me. The stand bag part was my biggest question (although I know most newer pushcarts are fine with them) since the one I rented didn't have straps/claws so the bag just kind of sat on it and moved around way too much.

Seems like the Clicgear/Sun Mountain are both good options, but are closer to double the price of the Caddytek

Ah I hadn't seen that one before. I actually have the same bag so that's good to know, appreciate it.

As some others have noted, pushing can aggravate lower back issues as well, though on a flat course, it isn't really a big problem.  Some have mentioned they have 'follow' electric carts, but those things cost a couple thousand bucks, or close to it.  I recently purchased an MGI Zip X1 electric cart at a fraction of the cost of those follow carts, and I enjoy walking more than I ever did (and I always enjoyed it).  I know that might be out of your price range as well, but if you use paypal credit or the like, you can spread the payments over a period of months.  A buddy of mine was going to stop walking until he purchased an electric cart (he got a remote control model, which I feel is unnecessary), and now he wants to walk all the courses.  Either way, I hope you stay with walking, as it makes golf more enjoyable, in my opinion of course.

As others have mentioned, push carts can be detrimental to your lower back. Been pushing carts for years without realizing it was the culprit for my backpain. I thought i needed exercise and kept pushing. I ended up getting laminectomy last year.
Do not push cart if you have weak spine. Carrying is better. Pull carts are even better.

I have a Clicgear 3.0 or 3.5 I forget the exact model basically the same, it works well.

I also didn't know about the back issues from pushing, I went to pushing cause of my shoulders and carrying being too much at times. So seems like cart or paying for a caddy is all I can do lol.

Questioning all these takes about push carts being bad for your back.... Especially the claim that pull carts are better?  Take a look at the second half of this little article (where the photos are).  I think it's been good for me--not surprising given the credentials of the author and the logic of it all:  handle at waist height.  Walk upright.  Cart close to body with elbows at 90 degrees.

And the logic and photos about pull carts being worse for you in the article seem .... completely right to me?  But....is he wrong?

That said, the battery-powered push carts have to be the best!

I know this is kind of late but if anyone is looking, the Bagboy Nitron is on sale for 215 plus tax/free shipping on amazon prime for prime day.  IMHO the best push cart in the market.  Easiest to setup and go. Small profile, light and sturdy.  The anti twist top makes it easy for stand bags. I play a titleist 4, never twisted once.  Probably more accessories with Clicgear but most of them are unnecessary.

And if you think push cart is bad for your back, sitting on a cart or sitting at home all day is even worst, weakening the piriformis and glutes.
