I have rolled both and in my opinion the Tyne feels a little softer.

I definiely echo all the above about the Tyne 4 being softer than than the 5.5.    I really wanted to love the 5.5 as I have a loyalty to Scotty Putters.  But just couldn't love the feel.  So I ordered the PLD Tyne 4.

So I replaced the Phantom 5.5  with a Special Select Flowback 5.5 that is on order.  It felt much better in my demo of it.

I rolled the Tyne 4 PLD today (with plastic on the face) and loved it. It is a very small head so I could see how people could be put off by the size. I typically play a 35" putter and sometimes when I pick up a 33" (which the Tyne 4 was) I absolutely love it. I was very tempted to buy it but I have spent more money on putters lately than I would like to admit. Usually self control doesn't win, but today it did.

Fast forward to today and I bought that 33" Tyne 4. Every time I walked into Golf Galaxy, it just felt right.

I started the topic and I have landed on a Phantom X 11.5 34". I tried a Mizuno Mcraft IV for a short window and did well with it but nothing stellar so I went back to my trusty Squareback 2. Went into PGATSS with the goal to try out a Phantom X 5.5 but there were none to be held, not even a demo. Soon had just traded in a Phantom X 11.5 2022 model so I tried it on the green and couldn't miss a putt. I didn't realize that the 11.5 had a little toe hand so it fits my slight arc stroke well. I will roll it for a time but the hobby of putters will continue.

I will say, I rolled the Ping PLD Anser 2 and it might be the best feeling putter I ever hit. It was tough to put it down but it could be coming to a bag near me soon.

I also have a custom 11.5 with a welded neck. Great stick! I may cut that down a bit as I am currently in a phase of liking shorter putters.

I find the Tyne to be nearly everything I want in a putter. IMO, the SC sounds/feels slightly better but it has a shape that I'd personally get tired of, the main reason I tend to switch putters. Not so with the Tyne.

I played my first 9 with the PLD Tyne 4 last night and can honestly say that I can't remember ever putting better than I did last night. Sure, I made some putts but I was blown away at how close my long lag putts were. I had a 40 footer for eagle on the first hole and it caught the edge leaving me with a foot for birdie. On 2, I had a 60-70 footer that I put to 6". I just feel comfortable with a shorter putter in my hand right now. Finished the 9 with 15 putts and had three that were definitely in 3 putt range that were tap ins.

Dear golf Gods, please tell me that this isn't just the honeymoon phase.

I dont play any OTR putters currently, all customs, but could you explain what makes a $450 Scotty milled in the USA better quality, or a better putter?

Right. I haven't heard any issues with the milling quality on the Pings so that can't really be it. The only rationale is that they expect Ping to pass on the cost savings they get from paying a Chinese machinist less than an American one, lol

Played my first 18 holes with the Tyne 4 today and again, it performed very well. My speed was a bit off but made all of those short 3-6 footers.

I’m a 7.5 index and so far I’ve shot +1 for 9 and +7 for 18 since bagging the PLD Tyne 4. No 3 putts over 27 holes is huge for me.

Again, I’m not dropping bombs all over the place but I’ve been as rock solid inside of 10 feet as I can remember ever being.

I had the exact same experience with my first 9 holes with the Prime Tyne 4. I'm a 15hcp and very ordinary putter and had 15 putts for the round. Was rolling them in from everywhere. The weight feels perfect and I really like the compact head - my stroke felt very smooth. Think it's replacing my PLD Anser 2.
