A lot of fairway woods do that these days, look like the center part of the face has given in, what is actually happening?

 

Is it only the middle of the face that uses the maraging steel and it wears off differently?

 

Here is one just like that for sale at a UK site GolfBidder, same type of wear:

Have also seen G410 fairways act the same and other used TM fairways also.

What we're seeing with faces like this is the way different metals show wear. The face itself that you see in the "center" is a different type of steel than the surrounding body it is welded into, and the way these differing materials take finish and wear over time leads to this type of pattern. Most fairways with face inserts like this, one of the various C300 maraging steels in the case of the M4, will show wear like this eventually.

Ok great, that then confirms my current beliefs, it's just the difference in metals. I used to believe these type of wear marks meant that the face has given in.. I have an M4 fw and it has started to show the difference in the lower part of the face.

 

In the M4 fairway they used Ni-Co C300 steel alloy for the face and it seems to be used only on that area of the face that has the inverted cone behind the face. On the GolfBidder image it can be seen it has gathered a bit of rust.

 

It seem like Ping doesn't use inverted cone but they do use C300 in the face and the illustration image shows the part where the C300 is located.

 

 

It will be interesting to see if the G425 Max heads wear a bit differently since according to Ping's website illustration the whole face plus top and bottom edges are maraging steel. For me the G425 Max 5fw has been amazing on the course.

Does Vessel make Srixon's bag or do they just use the same patented stand mechanism? I saw this bag for sale recently and noticed it had same stand as the vessels.
