I mean those are cool just not as cool as the Artisan wedges.

Anything hand ground by the establish 'artists' at the OEMs like Dill @ Vokey, Taranto @ Callaway, or Mike @ Artisan are really cool. You can see/feel the work that goes into them. I have a few of Taranto's wedges in my cabinet and a few are hand ground for an LPGA player and they are really neat.

Yeah aren't they illegal grooves or is it the first gen that was legal???

interesting, that’s the first time I’ve heard of that. I’ve seen a few players, Spieth included, who have a club or two that are older models but you can tell the wedge is new… I wonder if there’s any article that explains why certain pros stick with older model wedges.

Yeah I'd be extremely curious to see the grooves on their older model ones even if they were after the confirming grooves were in effect. Funny that it's Patrick Reed too of all people lol

Why use the latest model if a previous head shape works well?

Lots of times they may have blanks of the older models and can grind and mill the grooves to conforming specs.  And in these days of CNC Milling they could if needed mill a whole head out of a blank

It can be because basically they like the feel , the head shape fits their eye and the sole design and grind works for them.

SM4's were always legal, that was well after the rule went into effect. It was the first two iterations of Spin Milled wedges that were non-conforming, with the third being conforming and the fourth obviously being the SM4 and so on.
