2015 OnOff Kuros: what’s all the hype about?

Every once in awhile, a manufacturer will produce a CB for the ages, and they are quite similar. Callaway legacy blacks, Miura CB57, Tourstage MR23, and the Kuro 15's. That footprint just works for those who know how to work it. Great iron.

That’s good to know. Glad I ordered a set. Gonna compare to my New Level 902s. Ordering 623CBs as well to give those a go. It just seems like that 2015 is the whole package. Can’t wait. They are coming from Japan though so it may be awhile.

What specifically makes them a CB of the age? Feel, forgiveness, automatic straight flyers, etc.?

They're super soft and just cool looking.  The sole grind was nice with a pre-worn leading edge and the shape at address is also really good.

Looks like mine arrive September the 12th with some nippon 95 gram shafts. Gonna throw modus 105s and rock n roll

Def make sure when you get the new shafts installed that you check the swingweights to make sure they’re somewhat consistent with the other irons you’re playing. You may need to add some lead tape or make some other adjustments  (or you may not).

Always fun to test stuff out but when you’re buying used sets you don’t always know who built it, what it was originally built to, and what it will be once you pull shafts and install some new ones

Probably the coolest looking CB's ever.

I played a set last year, and they were very good. Slightly stronger lofts than the VR Pro blades I was playing, so I picked up about 5 yards. I'd still have them, but by the end of the season, I just wished I was still playing blades. 🤣

I’ve seen a lot of talk, but no clear reasoning as to why there is a such a cult following around these. Curious why everyone loves these?

how do they compare to New Level 623 CBs?

When you combine the look, feel, and forgiveness... I don't think I've played better.

Nothing against you, I just don’t understand why blades are still a thing when there’s other awesome irons that are more forgiving. Even for + handicappers

Like I said, I played them for a year, after 20 years of blades. The only time I saw the "forgiveness" helping, was about 10 yards on toe strikes, maybe once every 2-3 rounds. And I still missed the green. Otherwise, there was practically no difference.

Blades to me feel noticeably better, and the tradeoff is worth it to me. Maybe I just hit it closer to the center than most people? 🤣

I bought a set when they launched in 2015 from TourSpec Golf with Modus 120 shafts and when the Modus 105 was released immediately ordered a back up set with that shaft. I played the set with Modus 120s and a buddy bought the new set of back-ups.  We both played them for about 4-5 years until he went with Titleist T200s ( not the current version ) and I went with the Srixon ZX7. I can't leave out that during that 5 years I bought and sold 3-4 other sets of 2015 Kuro irons to members of this forum. I also have a few friends that are still playing them after I let them hit mine.  I sold my last set about a year ago and my game declined with the ZX7 Irons.  That is not a negative on the ZX7 but I'm getting older and they demand a bit more than the Kuro irons.   The friend I mentioned previously was generous enough to give me the set with the Modus 105 shafts I sold him 7 years ago and they have been in my bag for 3 weeks now. I won my flight in the Sr Club Championship with a final round 75 ( Par 73 ).   Below is a Photo of my bag from 2015 .  If you can find a set in good condition buy them !!!

I'm playing Kuros now with Modus 105S' and had played New Level 902's and Honma TW717V's prior, both had $-taper Lites.  I loved the 902's, probably the most accurate I've had and the smallest wear pattern on the face of any iron I've played, still have them,  but the feel was a little more akin to Titleist forgings, not the softest but still very good. Then the 717V's , still have those too, a little longer heel to toe and razor thin top line, thinner sole, beautiful looking cavity, feel was sublime, miss was usually thin but shot some LOW scores and had a beautiful flight. The Kuro's are the best of every iron I've ever played, feel is soft yet powerful, deceptively long , not as accurate as my 902's were but definitely not sloppy or difficult to work or control. I think the way the COG's are done in the Kuros along with the attention to every clubhead in the set and how it launches is what sets them apart, the long irons are so easy to flight and land soft as a result.

I actually bought and sold at least 3-4 sets over the years and am fortunate my buddy gave me the set I sold him 7 years ago.  There is another friend of mine

that I introduced to these irons that has a brand new set in the box that I'm going to attempt to buy.  He will probably try to gouge me because he knows I love these

irons.

I think one of the interesting things about these irons, is that you can see very clear progressive CG weighting, which at the time was somewhat ahead of it’s time. Looking at the 9 iron and PW, look where the extra metal is…this would raise the center of gravity for more spin with those clubs, which most of us hope to fire darts with.

I'm glad you still love them... I regret selling my last set about a year ago and played Srixon ZX7 for about 18 months until I asked a close friend who I sold a new back up set to

about 7 years ago if he wanted to sell them.  He gave them to me the next day and they went in my Bag.  I have played the best golf in 18 months the past 6 rounds including a win

in my Sr. Club Championship Flight.  🙂   I missed them !!!

Posts like this make me wonder if I’m making a mistake selling the set I have instead of reshafting them and getting the loft and lies set to my spec. Every time I take them out though I just don’t get along with them like I do with my New Levels.

Yep, big mistake. 2015 Kuros are a once a decade iron. Your New Levels will be obsolete shortly if not already.
