This exactly!  I wonder how many changes in my head and to my clubs I'll make this winter without even hitting a ball.  Need to stay out of this thread and my head!

Good to see these reports.

To put things into perspective this year i've been playing a Stealth Plus 9* turned down to 8.25*.  Also playing Stealth Plus 3 wood at 14.25 Degree.  I have a OG Black 6X (not tipped) in the Driver and OG Black 7X in the 3 wood.

I don't have LM data here but on a good swing can carry driver 300 and average swings carry 285.  3wood is a rocket can get between 265-280.

I ordered the TR Red 6x with 1 inch of tipping and haven't taken it out of the steath the past 3 weeks.  The tipping likely helped stabilize the softer tip profile.  But the ball just wants to go straight, and definitely to my surprise hasn't wanted to go much offline left.  I'm still going to do some other testing with the Black, maybe even TR black, as i feel this may spin a tad higher at times, but the accuracy and dispersion has been so good its not bothered me.

Played today. Maybe the worst I have hit driver in a year. I don’t blame the shaft. But wanted to share so as to stay balanced and real. Bad bad hooks. Probably cost me 8 strokes.

Played my first 18 with the Black TR today.   Ball flight lower compared to OG Black, more mid flight vs mid-high (for me).  Didn't feel like I lost any distance, but played a very tight/placement course so I couldn't really let it rip.  On course it definitely feels stiffer than the OG Black but that, for me, seems to lead to very straight shots.  Strike pattern was very good - same as OG Black, maybe slightly better.  Need to get some more reps in with the TR before the final verdict.  But so far it's been pretty good and IMO it looks fantastic in the bag.

Gotcha, yea I tried Ventus Blue TR 6x.  Black TR is way different feeling IMO.  Though 7x tipped should start to close the gap....

I am loving the feel. Just a bad day. Lots of times reviews turn into all praise. I still want to praise this shaft. But I had a bad day off the tee with it. It’s not a miracle worker haha..

Got in another round today with my TSi3 head this time. Starting to really like this TR Red. Figuring out the timing of it has taken me a bit coming from TR Blue and a RDX Black lately. I can now hit a low cut which I could never really hit before. Also today I hit two drives into 15+ mph winds that went as long as my drives normally do on those holes with no wind. What’s crazy is I’m not really seeing a higher trajectory with this Red compared to the Blue. Maybe a little lower but with less spin and the ability to flight it down and hit fades. The Blue wanted to draw much more.

Played 9 holes with the little man last night. Bit of a mixed bag. When I hit it well, it's definitely longer than the OG Red I have. I'd say the launch was a tad lower, and spin was lower, because the ball was really running out more than I typically see. That said, my swing was not in a good place and I was missing a lot of balls off the toe, which isn't uncommon for me, but was seeing some uncharacteristic results. I'm not willing to say it was strictly shaft related, just that it was there. Playing in an event today, so will be curious to see how it goes with a few more reps.

Played in an event yesterday. Unfortunately, I don't think the TR is going to work for me. In hindsight, I wish I'd have gone with a 6S so I had a more apples-to-apples comparison. Just feels like the added weight is causing more issues than it's solving. A friend suggested adding some weight to the head to fix the swing weight, which I may try. Overall, I like the shaft, just doesn't perform for me the way I was hoping it would. Back to the OG Red for now.

I never felt like I could throw everything at the Ventus Black and keep it on the planet. Full understand this is user error. Is the Black TR more in line with the Hulk green or white low/low Mitsubishi shafts etc. ?

Thanks for all your reviews - I may want to try a Red TR 7X in a 3 wood, but as it's a new offering spending 350 on a fairway shaft is steep.

I don’t think it is similar to either. I hit the hulk pretty good. I really liked that shaft. I have never got on well with any Tensei stuff. I don’t know why but haven’t liked any of it.

I really liked the Hulk as well.  AV Raw white beat it in every way, except the beauty part of the competition.  Ventus Black was a close third in that race.  Will see how this thread progresses.  As I usually  buy half the stuff that gets reviewed on here.

2 Rounds and an additional range session with the new Black TR.  Coming from OG Black.   See my post on page 1 for in depth data.

Cliffnotes: you can definitely feel the increased stiffness in the handle.  To me, they're less similar than I expected.  Agree that Black TR has more linear/load feel - but in my opinion you need to be in the 110mph+ range to really start to appreciate it.  If you're 115+ you'll probably notice even more of a difference.  On course though, the biggest thing I notice, again, is the feel.  Performance wise, they've played fairly similarly thus far.  More to come.

No formal review but Black TR in 6X and 7X in 3 wood both tipped 1" has been a game changer for me. I was playing Blue TR in 6TX and 7TX. Some misses left and a bit spinny at times. No concerns with either of those in Black TR.

Can anyone compare Ventus Black 7x vs Black TR 6x? I hit og black 6x last year and didn't get along with it (maybe too light for my like) but love black 8x in my 3 wood and just tested black TR 6x today which was surprisingly great. Thinking about getting both to test out on course but wondering what others thoughts are on the two.

Im a ventus black 8x in a 3 wood lover. I’ve had the black 6x and 7x and TR6x. I’ve had the 6x in the black tipped 1/2&1 and the Tr tipped 1/2 and a black 6TX. The black TR has more feel to than the OG. The 7x I tested at 44.5 compared to 45 to start. I use to game 70g driver shafts forever but the last 2-2.5 years been trying all sorts of 60g shafts. The 7x felt solid but I did swing it slower on average compared. I really did like the OG 6x tipped 1 inch the most until it broke and then I switched heads and didn’t test another one tipped an inch in that head. The shaft for me in order would be OG 6x tipped 1inch, TR6x tipped 1/2, OG black 6TX, OG black 7x then 6x tipped 1/2.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bought a Ventus TR Velocore Red 5-S cut to Callaway (Rogue ST TD - 195 gram) standard length untipped. Putted on a MCC Plus4 52 gram. Total weight 319 grams. Here’s the problem; Swing weight D6(!). Is this normal? Thought fault tolerance on these shafts were close to zero.

I would never pay full MSRP for it. You can find the shaft new, uncut for $225 if you look in the right places.
