When might we see the 2023 Rules?

I had an occasion to call the USGA Rules hotline this morning (Saturday, 9/10/22) about something else. At the end, I asked if they knew when the public would see the 2023 Rules. "We're not permitted to tell you the date of their release just yet," came the friendly, but firm reply.

 

Anyone have an idea when we might see them?

The earliest USGA Rules workshop scheduled is October 24, I'm sure they'll be out before then.  I hope to attend a workshop on December 3-6 in Pinehurst.

I know for sure that is the objective ......... 

 

I also suggest it is obvious why they won't publicise a release date .......

No, but I asked for them just this afternoon and will get them this week. Then again, the official release date is November 7th so at least until then everything is secret 😎

What language(s) do you translate them in to?

We had a tournament directors and referees' meeting this past weekend and we went through the changes but unfortunately we were also sworn to secrecy.

Just received the file and that will be translated into Finnish. Most of the translations have already been done by other persons but there is still need for lots of polishing and correcting to be done. Looking forward to it.

That's quite the task.  I know here in Canada, to translate to French, there are a  whole bunch of hoops to jump through and there are official people who approve (or not) the translations that appear in official publications.

I'm attending a USGA workshop in early December, and I got a copy of the new  rules last week, for review purposes.  We were asked not to discuss the revised rules until after the release to the general public.  We were also told we'd receive the Complete Guide sometime in early November.  I've not done a detailed read of the rules, but have noticed maybe 5 or 6 minor changes.

Can someone answer this as it isn’t really a secrecy spoiler or anything. 
 

Are they keeping the same numbering system for the Rules? It’s not a complete overhaul as 2019 was I don’t think. 
 

It’s been 4 years and I still haven’t memorized the “new” numbering system. I still call playing 2 balls 3.3 and ball at rest moved 18.2. 🙂

 

I’ll likely need another decade to get the new numbering down. 🙂

Someone on Facebook mentioned that back-on-the-line had been cleaned up. And, a Rule 25 added.

That would be good.  It's not at all inclusive to have the modified rules as a separate publication.

We have been told November 7th to be the official release date. Let us see if they can make it by that date.

 

It is somewhat odd to start the workshops before the revised Rules have been officially released.
