A first for me: French milled Argolf putter

I have been collecting putters for years and I recently ran across a small boutique putter company, Argolf, from France. 

Argolf does not pay PGA Pros to use their putters, but I had read that there are about a dozen LPGA and Champions Tour players that are using them.

So when I ran across this one, an Arthur - Damascus Series, I just had to buy it.

It is fantastic! A bit heavy at 370 grams but really puts a nice role on the ball without any face milling.

Anyone roll one of these Damascus or standard Arthur putters?

Beautiful putter- haven’t rolled any of their putters. However, Austie Rollinson was a consultant for them for a bit after leaving Odyssey and I am quite sure this is a top quality product.

I had an Avalon way back, always said it was an extremely quality putter I just learned with it that I couldn't putt with face balanced mallets that well.  I always wanted to try an Arthur 2.0 or even an Arthur but the LH versions used are always so expensive. Now not really much interest but still stand on the quality part.

This damascus.... please pardon my ignorance and don't get offended.  Is that a damascus pattern print of sorts?

Definitely an applied pattern, the pattern of the grain changes across the different surfaces of the putter instead of staying consistent.

You should see on your Arthur etched in the cavity the word ... France.

Damascus steel is a rare steel usually intended to manufacture swords and knives.

Usually only found or forged in Japan. Very durable and corrosion resistance.

Pretty much raw with no coating required and no two patterns of the metal is identical to another.

Kmay, definitely not an applied pattern. Rather a pattern that is inherent to the ingot of Damascus steel itself.

Well considering that putter has the metal grain running in 4 different directions I highly doubt it's real damascus cause that would just crumble apart. Plus it just abruptly stops at the hosel cup.

Holy Sh_t, MattM97. I did not notice that. I just went to their web site and noticed that in their descriptions they don't mention a Finish on the putter, but in the Specs they do. A little deceiving. 

None the less a great feeling 304L SS putter. Good thing I did not pay the extra 2 or 3 hundred dollars uncharge for Damascus Series.

My bad Kmay. I did some further research and it is an applied finish. Putter head material is GSS 304L stainless steel. Got the putter yesterday and got excited to share it with you guys. Still pretty cool and feels great.

@weakputt: thanks for sharing.  Your Argolf Damascus pattern = different vs the subtle patterns on these Nead Damascus putters (sharing here, for easy reference)

It's all good plus all damascus putters I've seen have a welded neck because milling out of a solid block would be just insane for waste cost. I'm sure there are some but they're probably asking 20k on some website.

Good point.

I kick myself every time anything Damascus comes up because it reminds me that I acquired (2) of the 50 Tad Moore Tour Classic Barn Finds with Damascus insects vs copper about 5 years ago and I foolishly Flipped them both. Nice putter anyway. Now instead of keeping it idle down in my man cave, I will probably game it and see if it makes the starting line up. So far, in the basement anyway, it has a really good chance.

No worries I wasn't trying to be rude about it but it may have come across that way, sweet putter regardless of material, about a year ago there was an Argolf putter on the local classified that was brand new, the guy had a few diff putters available, I ended up grabbing a Rife from the guy instead of the Argolf but it was a beautiful putter.

Argolf makes some nice putters, but the fact they try and sell that dip pattern "damascus" is really not doing their company favors. Just looks cheap and will not wear well over time. 

 

Enjoy the putter, they roll as well as any other anser style!

Agreed, if it at least looked somewhat authentic they might have an argument in using it but IMO this just looks like zebra stripes on LSD.

I have a lefty Arthur Armlock and Argolf Merlin coming today. Argolf putters feel amazing to me and they have some nice unique looks to them. I would really like to score an excalibur someday.

 

They dont hold resale value at all, so occasionally you can grab one at a great price on ebay. I think I saw yours purchased there, you got a steal.
