2023 cobra irons in hand

Played some of my best golf back in the day with Cobra Carbon CB irons.  Never felt the same with any other Cobra cb iron after those.  So the "Tour" would be the modern version I assume of the old Carbon CB?

Is there tungsten in the tours? I think i see a slot. Is the chrome finish super flashy?

Really digging the CB and Tour models.  Wonder what the loft package will be on the Tours...I tend to like some stronger lofts and bending anything beyond 1-2 degrees starts making the hosel/offset look funky.  I've got a set of the 2022 Forged Tec's but they're just too large in my opinion so they just sit in a backup bag.  The Tours look near perfect from that address pic.

Tour model kinda looks like a chunkier T100 with that slot and clean back, all three very good looking though

I've seen this a couple of times around here, figured I'd finally ask.

It is a good question and it is very subjective when you get to describing feel, sound and looks.

 

Soft to me feels like when you hit it pure the ball and club melt together.  The sound is muted with little to no vibration, no harshness at all.

 

Solid to me feels like when you hit the ball there is a deep impact.  No loud or hollow ring just a nice whoosh and thud.

 

When I played Titleist AP3 irons a few years ago, a hollow bodied player distance iron, I didn’t notice the sound and feel to be that much different from the Taylormade PSi Ron’s I played prior.  

 

Now that I’m playing blades, when I go back to a hollow bodied club they sound very loud with a noticeable clang.  The hollow bodied clubs also feel harsh at impact with more vibration.

I believe the only difference between the tours and the cbs is the lofting.

There is obviously some kind of slot with an insert in the tours

Have also seen the utilities and wedges. Both look incredibly good.

 

And for the putters, they'll be offering LA golf shafts this year.

 

This is going to be the year of the Cobra.

I guess it just means there is a denseness to them and the sound is not harsh. 
 

feel is sound. So if a club sounds bad, it will feel bad. Does that make sense?

I really like the look of all of these. The tour might be a slight reach for my ball striking ability (or lack there of) but I really want to try them.

As long as they went away from the "MIM" process I am all in. I have played Cobra irons forever so clean and the best shaping on the 8,9 and PW in the business. Those "MIM" tours were IMPOSSIBLE to bend for loft and lie. I hope they make a the mb/cb in a black option...

Those are fitting heads.  The irons you buy won't have those.

My 17 year old tried the King Tour and the new CB yesterday with Nippon Modus 120 X.  He loved the King Tour and would probably game them but we are afraid of the spin being off because the lofts are stronger than the MIM King Tour. Something we will have to get on a monitor outside to see.  He thought the CB's were just Ok, but he doesn't like the feel of the CB's.  Being a lefty has it's perks as we were able to take them from the local shop and he tried them outside on our range yesterday.  Currently gaming Forged Tecs, but he has to get out of them because he catches a couple of jumpers a round.  Going to snag the new MB today and give that one a ride.

The soles on the CB/MB is fairly thin. the tours have a bit of a leading edge bevel to them. It is not a pre-worn leading edge but there is something happening there that you can faintly see. I think for a sole that is not wide, but wide'r they should have really good turf interaction.

The tours are the closest. The cbs are much smaller.

Do the soles/blade length/topline seem meaningfully different on these new CBs from the predecessor, or does it just seem like weighting/tungsten changes (I may be wrong but thought I recalled you had gamed their 2019 CBs previously)? Any other changes/improvements stick out to you?

 

Looks like either a full set of Tours or a Tour/CB combo is going to be a mandatory purchase...
