That Anser D is going to be very popular and I could see the Oslo being a sleeper in the mallet options.

Sorry I don't know Ping well

When I look it says 2D? Whats the difference between D and 2D?

D is their notation for Deep or Wide. So an Anser D is a deep/wide Anser and Anser 2D is a deep/wide Anser 2.

The reason they most likely didn't do the 2D is too close to Finau's putter and can't have tour products at retail.

It's close enough, the Anser and  Anser D bumpers are not that round to begin with and that's really the only difference in them.

Does anyone have any information on the "graphite shaft"?  Its odd for Ping to not publish info.  If this was a "stability" product, you would think Ping would highlight this.  Seems like a missed opportunity to not offer a Stroke Lab equivalent.  I'll be buying this Anser D by the way.

They do Hovland’s DS72 though.

People in the PLD custom thread have said it’s extremely stiff with great feel and comparable to stability shafts or LAGP.

I guess it's close but no cigar 🤷‍♂️. I was going to say but not in carbon but Finau's is carbon as well. Then the Oslo 4 Thirston Lawrence uses it but with a dot instead of line.

Probably Ping trying to get people to go the PLD route.

I was wondering the same info on the Graphite.  Is it normally an upcharge? Is it stiff/stable or just offered for a different feel?

Slight differences..

But hand that putter over to 100 people, a handful will notice.

You'd think the difference in playability would be virtually zero.

FYI the retail PLD graphite shaft is a noodle compared to the PLD custom graphite.

Are you sure you weren’t just comparing their black step-less steel shaft with their graphite shaft? Bc not every black shaft in the PLD’s is graphite (the Tyne 4 is steel). It would be surprising to me if they had two different graphite shafts

I can vouch for this. I had a retail PLD and a friend has a custom one of the same putter but the upgraded shaft. Night and day difference in feel and even if you just picked the putter up and twisted it you could tell a major difference. Not sure if the custom program is even offering the low torque graphite any longer as a local staffer tried to get one and was told they were out of stock and not sure they could even get more for now.

I’ve only gamed the retail graphite, never the custom.  The retail is like rebar compared to the steel shafts in the Phantom X lineup.  I really like the retail version - a nice combo of stability and feel.

I'd be bamboozled if Ping offered two different graphite putter shafts, especially ones that look identical. The difference you may feel between shafts is probably due to the putter head. Or just your expectation that the $1,000 putter will come with a special shaft.

But they don't look identical. This is the non retail shaft.

Well maybe you’re right then, if that isn’t just cosmetic. Also maybe they upgraded the shafts entirely? I too would feel a bit bamboozled if I bought the retail version without knowing it was of lesser quality, because I think they advertise it as the same proprietary ‘Ping Graphite’ shaft
