... When the Beatles 1st became popular the older folks were furious with their "radical" music and hair styles. I couldn't believe how much hate they generated from the Get Off My Lawn crowd. I vowed when I was older I would never compare the current generation to mine and have done a decent job at maintaining that vow. 🤪 But being a completely self absorbed crybaby in a team game can be rough. Still I live by the philosophy that the the only constant in life is change, so you either accept it or live a life of disappointment.

... Refs/umps already have a really tough job and sports wouldn't exist without them. The few really bad ones deserve the negative attention but I do think the vast majority do a great job. But the players constant whining, pleading and cry babying put the refs/umps calling home games in a bad spot they don't deserve.

... As we have said there just isn't a more difficult job than finding the right QB. Aside from the fact that it will go down like the Bowie over Jordan worst of all time decisions, I didn't mind the Bears selecting Trubisky over Mahomes at the time because most scouts had Trubisky rated higher. What I did mind is moving up one spot and giving away so much to get him. Pace was adamant on a Drew Brees like QB for the Bears and the irony is take away Mahomes flair, he was more Brees like than Trubisky.

... I would not want to be the GM trading for A Rodgers, R Wilson or M Ryan and would really not want to be in charge of selecting Young, Stroud, Levis our Richardson. I want to be the GM that gets Drake Maye. 🏆

Ha! And it’s like double jeopardy if ARog gets 65% of snaps but still stinks/gets hurt and the jets go like 3-14 and have to give up a great 1st round pick!

 

But they would still be able to dump ARoj I think and have money to deal for another QB. I think there’s more hood QBs coming up next year.

I agree somewhat--- Things whether it be golf, car racing , baseball and life in general has and will evolve and that is a fact. But with that being said it does not mean us old farts gotta like it. Me I have resigned myself to the fact things are gonna change as this mudball rotates around the sun and time marches on. In my old age I have mellowed out some and just shrug and reluctantly roll with the flow

Muggery?  Simple application of 'The Jordan Rules'.  Punish Jordan whenever he attempted to drive the lane.  The 'Stons couldn't keep Air Jordan from taking flight, but they sure as heck could decide where and how he landed.  Pretty simple really.  Don't allow Jordan to get to the basket. Place as many defenders on him as necessary, starting with Joe Dumars. Then have Laimbeer, Rodman or Salley take him out.  The Bad Boys successfully deployed the strategy for three seasons ('Ships in '89 & '90), until Jordan and the Bulls figured it out.  Triangle offense; get the ball to Jordan down low.  

 

The Association changed after the Bad Boys era.  Can't have the league beating on their star ballers.  What passes for defense is a shell of what it use to be.  It's now become a perimeter game.   And everyone whines that they've been transgressed whenever they drive the lane.

Yup, that is how the game was played then and it worked for them Dee-Troit criminals in uniform. 🤪 Never hated a player more than Laimbeer that could have been charged with assault if it happened off the court. On a different note I get trying to stop Jordan. When the Celtics tried to practice for Jordan after he scored 63 in the first game, Conner Henry was the Jordan surrogate at practice and he didn't have to dribble. Or when he did and stopped, he could just run again. As they players said, it helped but it still wasn't like guarding Jordan. 

... And I agree defense in the paint is a joke. These offensive guys just lower their shoulders and literally bang into defenders. It would be OK if they could bang back, but if they just hold their ground more often that not a foul is called.

whether the rodgers experiment is a success or a failure, the jets were gonna be in the market for a qb in the near future. wilson isn’t the answer and his 5th year option absolutely won’t be picked up. 

 

the rest of their roster is young and very talented. short of rodgers getting hurt, i don’t see how they don’t improve on 7-10 last season. 

 

i think their floor is a 10-win season and a playoff berth. beyond that, who knows?  they certainly have the talent to compete.

When I was in the classroom there was one day a week which was a 90 minute class.  All studies have shown individuals cannot sustain concentration for that long so I would take an in the classroom break and play the kids some music that was somehow relevant to me... and them and invariably I would reference some BTS or something and tell them their music stinks, just like all the old people before have said.  The Red Hot Chili Peppers, REM, and many other bands were still around but completely different than what the kids had come to know from those bands.

 

I introduce the song American Ghost Dance explaining it's about what we were discussing (US History) and I bet you don't know who sings it.  Anyway, I play the song, no one has any idea so I tell them its the Chili Peppers.  Of course the kids were like, I love the Chili Peppers but that was so different... and bad.  Then one kid asks, "Hey Mr. Threeputt, if we like a song and you like a song, does our music still stink?"  So I had to explain to this young man, the song stinks when you are listening to it since you aren't yet refined, but it won't stink when you are my age.

nfl gets covered all year long. people are talking football 365 days a year. 

 

we’re less than a month into baseball season, it’s not even really warm out yet, i’m just getting in my “get the kid to bed by 7 so i can enjoy the game at 7:05” rhythm and we still talking football!!  

 

season doesn’t start until september!! football doesn’t let the other sports get their shine. it’s nba and nhl playoffs time and it’s the start of a fresh mlb season but we’re talking draft and who’s gonna be the mvp. 

 

football gotta chill!

Ha! I haven’t followed football in 10 years or however long the ny teams have sucked. And I’m that farthest from a fantasy football guy following nfl religiously

It’s definitely become a 24/7/365 sport.  As a sports junkie, I don’t mind, but agree that the other sports just starting (MLB) or actually in the playoffs (NBA & NHL) aren’t getting there due coverage compared to a sport in the off-season.  I do like the Draft, but them I could care less until the season begins.

Mahomie is a space man! He operates in a different plane of time and physics.

 

Like you’ll watch him and it seems like he’s just jogging…but he’s blowing past everybody! Or he just be standing there and like 3 guys rush at him from all sides, and he just stand there til they about to kill him, and he just turn and slip through them all lol
