1 degree too hot.

... I love the "even by local standards line" 🤣  We Phoenicians sometimes pretend we can handle the intense heat better than other parts of the US, because we have no choice in the middle of the summer. But anything above 114* is just too dangerous to challenge.

Excessive Heat Warning

Until Tue 8 pm MST

...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM MST TUESDAY... WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions. Afternoon temperatures to 115. WHERE...Portions of south central Arizona. WHEN...Until 8 PM MST Tuesday. IMPACTS...Major Heat Risk. Overexposure can cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion to develop and, without intervention, can lead to heat stroke. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... An Excessive Heat Warning means that a period of very hot temperatures, even by local standards, will occur. Actions should be taken to lessen the impact of the extreme heat. Stay indoors and seek air-conditioned buildings. Drink water, more than usual, and avoid dehydrating alcoholic, sugary, or caffeinated drinks. Dress for the heat - lightweight and light- colored clothing. Eat small meals and eat more often. Monitor those with a higher vulnerability to heat, including small children. Check in on family, friends, and neighbors, especially the elderly. If engaging in outdoor activity, take longer and more frequent breaks and avoid the hottest parts of the day. Never leave kids or pets unattended in cars. Public cooling shelters are available in some areas. Consult county officials for more details, which may include guidance for proper social distancing measures. Recognize the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness. Early signs include thirst and muscle cramps. Heat exhaustion may include: cool, moist, pale skin; headache; dizziness; weakness or exhaustion; nausea. The most serious illness is heat stroke, which may include: vomiting; confusion; throbbing headache; decreased alertness or loss of consciousness; high body temperature (above 105F); hot, dry skin; rapid, weak pulse; rapid, shallow breathing; seizures.

Heat stroke can be DEADLY. Treat as an emergency and call 9 1 1.

I read the whole thing and didn't see where it said you couldn't play golf.  😄  You know I'm just kidding.  Several years ago on a road trip my son and I took a hike in Yosemite National Park in 110 degree temperatures.   We couldn't wait to get back to the hotel and jump in the pool.

I have some good news. There will be a round of golf for me after all during this long 4th of July weekend. I wasn't feeling 7 shifts in a row so I got someone to cover for me today. I have a 2:30 tee time with my buddies. Sadly though this is our current weather. Yesterday it was steaming. Yikes !

It hit 79* here yesterday and thought that was bad, Had to turn on the a/c for an hour, First time it/s been on this year. Fortunately, a beast of a rain storm blew through yesterday evening and cooled things down. Don't know how you guys live in the stifling heat, I'm weak.

... I mostly grew up in Greensboro NC but spent 3 years in Georgia before moving to Philly and then Chicago. I HATED the cold and wind chill images it even worse. I'll take 115* over 15* every day. That said, the temperatures here in Phoenix are heavenly for about 9 months and then sporadic sniffling heat for the other 3. Probably only 20 days total that are just too hot, but again I'll happily trade that for 30 consecutive days without a glimpse at the sun and 6 months of frigid weather.

It can get quite cold here in the Winter, but ours are short and never have the 30 days without sun between cold fronts. That being said, my wife and I do leave here right after January 1st and head to St. George, UT, We spend the rest of January and February there for outdoor activities. We take a leisurely trip back home and miss most of the really harsh Winter weather that way. My system is totally intolerant to heat. I'll go down like a sack of wet cement if I'm exerting my self for very long in temps over 80*.

Thinking you might need a therapy session with a Climatologist about that unmanageable aversion you have to 15 degree temperatures.

 90 today with 62%   humidity

I managed walking the 5.5 miles with a pull cart quite easily

I worked a lotta years in the Florida climate- so don't really notice other  than packing some extra water and an extra glove

Guess I am just a swamp rat

Yeah, that humidity just kills me. Dallas tends to be on the humidity borderline - at times dry as the desert and other times as humid as South Florida. I’ll take dry and 100° vs. humid and 90°. I lived in Houston for a year and couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Our best golf weather is in the fall - October-early December. And we get some spectacular days during the winter, too. I’d move west if I could pry Mrs. Lindy out of here, but the roots are too deep.

Good stuff chi. I don’t buy the whole “you get use to it” BS when it comes to extreme cold or hot weather. I mean to a certain extent sure, but freezing is freezing and scorching is scorching. You just ‘deal with it’ because you “have to”. And I use quote’s because nobody is forcing anyone to live anywhere! Haha

Before we left for the coast Saturday it was already close to triple digits and I was walking on an asphalt parking lot 🥵 … Definitely uncomfortable.

Today my local course was  overrun with " bros"-didn't realize so many people had today off

Usually a foresome of one guy who can play pretty well and 3 other guys with clubs from grampa's closet, White Claw and dubious taste in music

Today I learned there is such a thing as " country rap"

If the Eagles after Bernie  are the vestibule of hell (looking at you Henley)

Country Rap is 9th circle stuff

Mrs NCL and I spent 3 years living in Oakland County (Wixom-Walled Lake area) in the early '90s and we loved our time there.  Buddy's was a treat every time we went!

I grew up in the Piedmont of NC; tiny little town about halfway between Raleigh and Fayetteville. Every summer from after 7th grade till after graduating high school, I worked on my dad's construction crew in those sweltering, humid summers. Hot's nothing new to me. (Though a NC autumn is magical) I've always hated being cold.

The first time I ever came to Vegas was in ... April of 2002 for some friends' wedding. I'd never been further west than Colorado (ski trip with the family when I was about 17 or 18) and simply had no idea about this whole "desert weather" thing. Me and my homey that flew in together arrived at night and I don't remember thinking much of the weather - of course, I now know May is a pretty lovely time of year. Next day, went outside and was like "Wow ... it's like ... almost 100 degrees but it's oddly comfortable. I'd be dying in this back home."

Spent a week in town and just fell in love with the weather. Didn't know about the whole "115° in a few months thing." There's a longer story about the how but me and that same homey decided to move here and we arrived in June of that year.

First full summer was pretty brutal but I eventually just got used to it. And developed an extreme hatred of humidity!

I prepare for it. In fact last night I bought a larger cooler. We are allowed coolers at our course and they encourage it since there is no water and no beverage cart. Our course does give free plastic bags and ice for the out of towners. What most of us do is fasten the cooler on the cart fender with bandolier clips clipped to the basket. I freeze at least 2 bottles of water at night the rest are chilled. My new cooler holds 8 standing up and has a shelf I can out my Ice packs and cold wash cloths in. I also in this heat carry at least 2 bottles of Pedialyte mix. Today here the ambient temp is 90* but with the humidity and heat index it is around 101 or so.

... Looking back at August 4 a day football practices in the PIedmont area, I am shocked nobody died. The last practice was just shells for QB/RB/WRs so the big guys got to go home. But back then they thought water gave you cramps and we only got one dixie cup  of warm water. We had quite a few players pass out, suffer some kind of heat exhaustion but thought that was just the price of playing football. Obviously we were 15-18 yrs old but still ...

IMHO the hottest and most humid place in the world is in the NC Sandhills around Pinehurst and Hoffman. No air moving through those Carolina Pines.

Used to haul out of a place in Arizona named Sacaton in the desert. That was the proving grounds for International/Case equipment. Depending on the load whether it was over dimensional or not we got there late in the day or early at night. Our truck was self sufficient with a generator etc. We would basically camp there and I would have the neck detached on the trailer and the chains off when the guys got there at 5AM. We would do a quick load and tie down before the sun came up and it got hot. Those guys out there were very efficient

Man, don’t get me started on early season football practices. Like you, I’m shocked we lived through it. We were given salt tablets before practice started and water was rationed like it was gold. We’d form a line during drills near a sprinkler head so the coaches couldn’t see behind the line. Guys would take turns laying on the ground behind the line, face to the ground, pressing on the sprinkler head to make it bubble a little and slurping up muddy water that included more than a few blades of grass. Probably a few grains of fertilizer every now and then, too.

... I almost forgot this guy from yesterday til I looked at my pictures. I evidently made the mistake of passing him in the right lane while he was in the left lane, so he floored it, got in front of me and blocked me from turning right, just sitting there through a green stoplight, I guess he didn't care about the 2 cars behind me honking their horns. After the 2nd green light, he waited til it was almost red and then floored it and went straight. I am guessing he thinks he really pi$$ed me off but all I could do was chuckle to myself.
