Meditation, the final frontier lol

What is is it? What is that “zen state” that we hear of? How do you find it?

Ive never really tried to meditate. I can say, for myself, probably one on the most desirable states of mind is that feeling of “contentment accompanied by mild optimism”. Not overly feeling happy or euphoric, as that passes quickly. Just a peaceful contentment is excellent.

Anyway, as I say, I’ve never really meditated, just read a little about it. Trying to “feel nothing but your breathing” and “totally clearing your mind” I can’t really do. Or if I do it just means I’m “zoning out” lol

But I did read something about a certain way to approach meditation that more sense to me and I’ve tried it a few times.

This is an iPhone “pano” pic that spans the 120* or so of my full field of vision. If you zoom, you see that little garbage picker truck and right behind it, I made a small red hash you can see. That marks a spot about 300 yards away where the bike/running loop is. You really can’t see in the photo but I can just make out tiny bikes 🚴 and joggers as they appear between the trees.

Now, to meditate, I start by observing them. Then, I gradually pull pack my sense of vision to see all the people in my 120*. People playing with dogs, just waking, sitting/laying out reading. I try to see them all including the bikers I started with.

Then, I continue to see them but also I start to include all the “nature” in my vision. Trees, grass, birds, animals, and finally even any insects. The sky

Then I try to include sound. Again starting with the wind, then voices, then just any airplanes or traffic etc

Finally I try to include “feel” the wind, the sun.

The idea is instead of “clearing your mind by closing your eyes”, you actually try to take in every possible thing in your senses to attain an interesting state of relaxation.

Sorry for the novel 🤣. I just wanted to “write” it down; )

Was not aware of that either. First time I saw him was in 1977 opening for the Eagles at the old Miami Baseball Stadium.  He and Andrew Gold were the "warmup" for the event.

I saw Andrew Gold at Jacksonville University in I think 1980. What an excellent show he put on.

Great song writer and performer for sure. Lonely Boy is still on my playlists, and I never tire of hearing it.

Never camped out.

I camped out for 2 shows: Aerosmith and Foghat. Had a friend whose mom camped out for us to get tickets to my first Stones show. We got all of our tickets at a nearby record store, but since we were in the ‘burbs, the lines weren’t nearly as long as those at stores in Dallas. Our store always had plenty of tickets.

And that first Stones show was a doozy! It was at Will Rogers Coliseum in Ft. Worth, which only has a seating capacity of around 5,000. A DVD of that show was released about 10 years ago - Some Girls Live in Texas. Great concert- Stones at their best! Here’s a taste.

I felt something grab in my back on the 7th and tried to push through it, but had to retire after the 12th hole.

Bummer man - hope it wasn't sciatic! Happened to me last spring. Was just warming up on the range - just easing some wedges - and suddenly felt like I got stabbed in the back.

Because I'm a VerySmartPerson™ ... played 18 anyway. Got home and could barely make it into the house. Got so bad, Ms. aenemated took me to the ER fearing I had some crazy nerve damage. Which I guess technically I did.

Pretty careful to do some real stretching now.

First cymbals I bought were Sabian ... because all the 90s guys I liked were playing 'em haha. Then when I started taking lessons, my teacher - and still good friend some 30 years later - was a Paiste endorser; so that's what he had on his student kit. I was like "Man, these sound AWESOME." Played Paiste ever since.

I have a mixed bunch of cymbals

Zildjian 70's models( If you see them , get them - they have the big hollow print)

Sabian Latin Sabor with the big bells

 Paiste signature and UFIP crashes

High hats are Turkish hand mades or Zildjian New Beats

Italian UFIP are great if you have the cash ( I sold most of mine)but still have a few

They are roto cast-meaning instead of being hammered out- the molten metal is spun on turntable so the bronze flows into cymbal shape

Such sad news Memories of life in Key West before condos and cruise ships Quiet walks with my late wife to visit an old sailor called " Popeye" who lived near Gruntbone Alley and showed me how to throw a cast net for bait My wife's favorite Buffett tune was " Quietly Making Noise" which she would play when our parrots got to rowdy The only other musician deaths to hit me this hard were Jerry and Janis Sail on Jimmy and thanks for the songs !

... Hadn't played in awhile but was Abe to walk yesterday when temps dropped down to the upper 80's but sprinkles and high humidity, unusual for Phoenix. Driver was about as good as I can hit it and putter saved my Word not allowed because my iron game was off. My excuse is I finally put together my queen size guest bed and it took about 4 hours andI was in sooooo many unusual positions left me so sore I could hardly walk or swing a club. 70 ain't the new 50. 😳  But it didn't seem to have a negative effect on my driver or putter you are thinking? Then you need to look up the definition of "excuse*".

... 3 bogies and all of them coming on par 3's and I missed every single par 3 green. 2 mental errors and two bad swings, but didn't hit any of the 4 solid. I rolled in a 12 footer to save par on one of them or I would have been a perfect 4 for 4 with 4's and all the par 3's. I added 1 birdie on a par 5 and I also rolled in several long putts in the 10 foot range to save pars or it would have been worse.
