23 Maxfli Tri-Fli

The 23 Maxfli Tri-Fli is out. I don't think we've heard much about this ball line. But, it is 34.99. Even the cheap balls are not so cheap anymore.

I like the alignment aid with the orange lines. A nice compliment to a white ball.

Yes, green and matte - ugh. I guess no one likes shiny balls any more. Not sure about the 2 fer price.

They're brand new, I don't think there's much feedback on these. Cheap(er) 3 piece surlyn is without much competition. Gamer and Soft Response maybe. Can the TriFli be comparable to the old Gamersoft? @munichop may know.

Vice Tour, which is a really good 3 pc. Surlyn ball, is $27.99 for 1 doz. $19.99 for 5+ dozen.  They run 5+1 deals periodically.  I think at Walmart or Costco you can get the Vice Tour for $25.99.  I haven't tried the Maxfli Tri-Fli but for that Price, the  Maxfli Tour and Tour-X are 2 for $70 or 4 for $120 which are much better urethane balls for the about the same price.

Edit:  Just checked.. DSG has them for $29.99 or on sale for 2 for $40.  For $10 more I think the two dozen price is worth it to try them.

I've just tried these and really liked them. There is a current deal at Golf Galaxy 2 for $40. I think at that price these are totally worth it for mid-high handicapper. I'm not expert but I did feel like my misses were less exaggerated (could be placebo, I shouldn't have read the box lol) and they were just ok around the greens. Noticeably worse than the tours but also half the price. I think they are worth a try if thinking about it.

This is a very good ball for higher handicaps. It has a decent feel and sticks the greens pretty well. It also handles the wind really well. I'm not sure if it's due to the dimple pattern or not. I was worried about pitches and chips with the ionemer cover but not any more, not with this ball.

My buddy, a mid-handicapper like myself, tried the tri-fli when I gave him a sleeve.  He then bought the dozen I had decided to sell  (for 10 bucks) to use instead of his usual Bridgestone e12s.  Said he prefers the feel and seems to hit them straighter with similar distance.  Also cheaper when on sale.  This is the latest model

I liked the feel of them as well, but decided I prefer an orange ball because it's so much easier to distinguish from my playing partners' balls, so am sticking with the Wilson 50 elite.

I think they feel fuller or firm, perhaps with a bit more greenside spin.

Difference in the majority of cases will be negligible. If maximizing greenside spin is important, avoid anything with an ionomer cover (not to mention that the vast majority of ionomer covered balls fall below 80 compression on the ATTI scale and lower compression tends to correlate to slower ball speeds).

There is a durable marketing premise that there's some kind of Goldilocks "just right" compromise in paying darned near high-performance (urethane) ball prices for a low compression ionomer cover ball. It's low spin but maybe not QUITE as low spin as some other low compression ionomer balls. And it's not QUITE as expensive as a low-priced urethane ball. And maybe a third layer will add back in a little bit of ball speed that the low compression would otherwise lose.

Back in the day Titleist made a lot of money selling NXT Tour into that "more expensive than cheap Titleists, cheaper than expensive Titleists" $35 price point. That's one thing when a marquee name like Titleist does it. Very strange to me that Dick's can try it on under the Maxfli brand but who knows, maybe they'll sell some. I would never pay $35 for a Tri-Fli when there's a $40 Tour or Tour X sitting on the shelf next to it.

To be fair, I doubt many folks are paying $35 for one box of Tri-Fli when they can get 2 boxes for $40.  I would still personally look for a urethane option though.  I do like that they offer it in the matte green though.  Wish that was still an option for the Tour ball.

Just played 9 last night with the 23 tri fli. I really liked how it felt off the driver, irons, wedges, but putter hardly had any feel. I will say I have the white hot insert, so maybe with just a straight milled face it might give a little more feedback. Off the putter it kind of scared me a little bit. The way it just jumps off the other clubs it feels like you could slam it 13 feet past just on a normal putt. I will say it felt light, and the compression felt good too even for it being low. I was able to hit a couple of cut shots that I haven't really been able to with my usual 2 piece surlyns and the spin seems good. I'll say that maybe I had better clubface control, as my attempts often are just straight or maybe even pulled a little. The 2nd cut shot I had even had a little back spin, with a 7 iron (receptive green helped too.) All in all it's a good ball for mid to high handicappers looking into 3 pieces and I think it would be great in colder Temps just on feel alone.

Definitely one you'd want to practice some putting with though. Like I said, it feels like it could just go for miles but it doesn't really.
