Rory Equipment Switch before Masters

with regards to the switch to the blue: when i've shortened driver shafts my launch and spin went down.  Maybe that is what necessitates moving to the tr blue?  just guessing.

You laugh, but those are the ones you have to watch out for. It's easy to be intimidating as a bodyguard if you're 6'6" and built like a brick wall. But obviously Rory trusts him enough to hire him, so that probably means he knows some stuff.

I spent my preteen/teen years doing martial arts, and we had one guy at the school who was 5'5" and built like a fire hydrant. He was also a night bouncer at a bar. He was a second degree black belt, and NOT someone that you wanted to disobey if he asked you nicely to leave the premises lol!

I can just imagine Rory's interview:

Rory: You don't exactly look like bodyguard material. Why should I hire you?

BG: Well, I'll admit I put on some pounds after my stint in the British Special Forces. A few too many pizzas as I spent the next 10 years studying Krav Maga. And although I may look a little tubby, I can squat 650 lbs and bench 340.

Rory: You're hired!

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let Rory go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you.

No, he's going to a 44" driver. Rickie plays 44.50" driver length.

It didn't look that short. He always played a 45.75" shaft

Maybe I missed this but his club deal must be 12 clubs with TM.  Was 14 before the new deal.  But, he then immediately had the 54 & 59 Vokey’s. He added the Scotty and now drops the 54 for TM 54.

Wow talk about a huge over reaction to a club change.  Back to a Scotty for 2 maybe 3 tournaments before he’s back to a mallet.  A little worrying when he goes back to a blade before the masters which he’s admitted he gets a little yippy when using one now

Can't seem to find it either. All the references refer to half inch shorter. But found this info:

https://golf.com/gear/drivers/rory-mcilroy-taylormade-sim2-driver-setup/?amp=1

Guessing its 45" to end of grip based on prior club measurement info.

Seems more likely then him playing 44" total which would have been 1.5" difference.

It is a 44" shaft, playing length is still 45". Watch the video of Trottie building his driver last season

I agree last season isn't this season.  But also, 44" inch shaft isn't 44" playing length.

I think in this case the horse's mouth doesn't build the club's. 44" inch shaft in TM head equals 45" driver which lines up to half inch shorter(below) with previous build info.

I guess we won't know until a rep or build sheet shows up.

I've worked with a few different club builders over the years. They always spoke in terms of shaft length, never playing length. Could be a coincidence or maybe that's the standard parlance. No idea.

Why would anyone ever quote shaft length?  Everything ever posted is playing length , shaft length means absolutely nothing to anyone outside the tour trailer.   The dudes playing a 44" driver and blew it by Stallings by 30-40 yards on most holes, the interview above he says "I'm back to a shorter driver that i'm more comfortable with at 44 inches ".
