Explain this shaft for me please!

I have the G410+ driver with stock Alta CB shaft in regular. It performs well for my 98-100 ss, but it aint exactly a Diamana BB in feel. Recently a friend come by on the range and I asked him to try my driver to see what he experienced. He is like 112-115 in ss. He didnt look at the shaft, just the head a little and then smoked it time after time like 300, easy swings. Afterwards he asked: isnt this shaft too stiff for you and then he checked the shaft and was really surprised to see he just hit a regular flex that really performed. I also saw that Louis O used this shaft for a while in s. Has anyone got any cpm-numbers? Ive heard they took weight out of the middle of the shaft and putt it in the grip end. But is it a blue profile, red profile or white or black or what? Ping has used this shaft since the Ping G driver. Its interesting. Would be really interesting to know more about it!! Thanks!

Agree with @JAM01 counter balanced, for Pings heavier heads, likely mid-60g shaft.  Lots of people are surprised to learn how they benefit from counterbalanced shafts.  I currently have one in my 3wd.

Yeah, I know its counterbalanced. My brother had it in a Ping G driver. First time i hit it I almost missed the ball. Thats how weird it felt to me then, so its probably more CB than most!!

Counter balanced, because Ping driver heads are on the heavier side. Most likely made by UST. I suspect it’s a modified version of one of the shafts they sold after market, not sure which one.

So you dont think its Ping sending the shaft producer some specs they wanted in a shaft? It was released in 2016, strange Ping is sticking that long with a shaft. Most other OEMs change shafts with every new model.

CB shafts are designed to offset head weight, butt heavy.  If you buy one in secondary market, for a lighter weight head, it may not be a good experience.

There is a lot of shafts nowadays with higher balance points.

Yes.  I am partial to HIGH... fits my fast tempo and transition, plus my hands still accelerate just before impact, though the ball.

The Alta is made by Aldila and the Ping tour shafts are from UST and are base of the chrome elements

I suspect that Ping might tweak Aldila or USTs current shafts, so the various versions of the CB Alta might be updated to take advantage of current tech.

If they move weight from the middle of the shaft Im thinking it should feel looser in the middle but thats not what Im feeling.

When it comes to graphite - weight and stiffness are pretty independently controlled.  Weight mostly comes from the epoxy - all the strength comes from the graphite.  Although there are limits, in general lighter does not necessarily mean weaker.

There are LOT of misconceptions around about certain swing speeds needing certain levels of stiffness.   None of them are true.   If you don't believe that, just look at tour pro's hitting the auto-flex shaft.

No but that's not going to tell you much anyways.   Butt stiffness is only one small part of the shaft and cpm numbers wont tell you much about how a shaft will feel or how much it will load.  Another very common misconception wrt shaft stiffness.

Colors mean different things to different shaft OEM's - so that's not a clear way to ask the question But.

It doesn't use a single profile, the profile varies with the flex.   The softer the flex, the higher launching the profile - more so than just what is typically different in aftermarket shafts as the flex changes.
