100% every TM iron head is NOT made this way - it would be hugely cost prohibitive. They do it only for custom heads/prototypes for TM Staffers.

My goodness. Can you imagine the price for a set if they were produced just like CMs??? What ya got for an over/under? I’ll say $3,500

with their margins I would say closer to $7500-$10,000 given all the milling and manual finishing required!!!

You can watch an Artisan putter being milled in house, they are well over 1000 now plus fitting so you can see where a full set of irons would come to.

I've been in that room, I know they've done some sets like this for DJ because they were sitting on the workbench when I was there, probably some Tiger sets as well. Shame they didn't show how the hosel get's drilled out and countersunk by the multi axis machine, that's gotta be pretty cool to watch.

Milling good heads is simple. I with a friend wrote a program to mill putter heads. They can say it cost 10,000 in R&D but that is crazy talk. We did it over a week.

Pretty sure where he’s coming from is… If standard mass produced sets of P7MBs made in China sell for $1,300+. Sets made like CMs in Carlsbad, would be in the $7,500-$10k range with the typical margins. Not too big of a stretch to believe IMO. Like with anything else. Sure they are fairly simple to make if you have all the raw materials, very expensive milling machines and the know how. Haha

And I’m way over my skis here. Just kinda “common sensing” it.

Milled irons softer than forged?

I believe in general, forging is more of a manufacturing process while milling is more shaping although technically you could do some of both with either.

I mentioned more bag chatter because with milling, it opens up the options of being able to use a block of softer metals/materials that can't withstand general forging like some aluminum, coppers, carbon, etc. so that means his irons may have a mixture of a bit more "something" outside of what is in the OEM P7MBs.

PXG 0311ST blades were 100% milled from a solid block for each head. They were $650 at release, felt amazing. I’m sure these would be similar if mass produced. $500-$700/stick.

Correct....I had a set.

Current PXG irons are 3x/5x forged and then milled to exact specs.

They are forged and then they are milled. The solid block of steel didn’t come from nowhere. That was forged somewhere. I am not aware of any US steel company that produces billets of 1020 or 1025 carbon steel to mill into golf heads. So it could be the steel is forged in Asia and then is milled in the US. That would be my guess.

Not only did PXG release fully milled irons as @BirdieBobpoints out, the process shown in the video has been going on a long time with “Milled in the USA” putters. Bettinardi, Bobby Grace, etc., all have vids of putter heads being milled. There’s also irons out there that are partially milled on the face or back cavity.

It is expensive now but already less expensive than it used to be. More milling machines out there. I would imagine this kind of golf club will get cheaper and cheaper.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
