As I have been told by the course setup people, there is a design to have a mix of 3shot and 2shot par5s with mostly 3shotters.

 

The 12th hole par5 474 is the AON Risk/Reward hole. Distance has varied each day by design.

 

Drive is straight w OB right and large mature trees on both sides in landing zone.

 

Approach is to a guarded green w creek covering 3sides, 30ft raised and crowned green w a diagonal ridge through middle of the green.

Crown leads to sharply sloped side into creek.

 

As many players have elected to play it as a 3shotter, today it was shortened to encourage more risk taking.

 

Pin was set 18 back and 6 in from the left on 34depth green. Added challenge was the ridge was at 15 from front.

 

Heard plenty of rocks pinging, water splashing and muttering when balls didn't reach crown apex and slid to apron or worse.

 

This setup perplexed many long hitters like Lexi. Heard there was a rl wide scoring range today, so setup goals were accomplished.

Saturday Maria Fassi was matched w another long hitter Brittany Lincicome.

 

Unfortunately either Lincicome isn't all the way back from maternity leave or it was just a bad day, shooting +6 today.

 

Me thinks she isn't all the way back. Don't hear her typical "Bam Bam" sound. She is still now a strong hitter but not same length as before or long enough to match Maria Fassi.

 

Maria Fassi had a good round and was -6 then dropped a few coming in and finished even on round and is now -3.

Lincicome, it's a tight driving course...seems to be getting tighter every year. You must put yr drives in the fairway to score and hold the greens.

Two hours of coverage on GC starting in an hour. Final group is on the 5th hole. They'll probably be on the 9th or 10th when coverage begins. No way they play the back nine in two hours.

Nice bounce back by Minjee. Going to be an exciting final stretch of holes. Course is playing tough, and patience will be key.

While JDay is "grabbing the bull by its horns", Minjee has lost her mojo. 🇦🇺.  Minjee's putting and now iron play. 😒

 

Time is not running out for Minjee though.  However, JYK is not going to let go in my opinion.

At least we don’t have to wonder if coverage will be switched off a network channel, and I don’t think there’s any other tournament they can switch to on GC.

Good Lord, this has to be the loudest course the tour visits all year. The drone of traffic is worse than having Annika in the booth.
