I'm not sure and it probably varies by player.  Some may think they are a range session / round away from finding it (maybe that's why they were successful in the first place).

Either way, the eligibility is whatever the tour sets, so if they want to play they can play.  I think there is somewhat of an inconsistent answer here from fans depending on whether people like the player.

For better or worse, many people have a lot of their identity tied up in what they do (sports and non-sports).  It's hard to let go and just being some normal bum won't work for many.

Some just keep going as it's in their blood.

How else to explain Laura Davies???

She is much shorter than she was and more crooked but she is almost always shooting her age.

Did anyone notice most of afternoon pairings shot better than morning pairings?

Odd as wind was up significantly, greens were harder and as dried out because much faster than the morning.

Morning was calm w/ light chill in air for 1st groups. By midmorning it was perfect golfing weather and even no humidity.

@Whoa Nelly @18majors I bet you guys are drooling over Yealimi's round today. Can't believe both of you aren't talking it up on here. Hope I didn't jinx her 😂

All quiet on her.

Most activity around the clubhouse was on lexis wildness and sand saves.

She had a duck on 12, fortunate it at least got almost tree high and did it when there was no ob and just missed the water.

Or

Nasa Hataoka, who has been at top of leader board regularly at Founders.

She shoots 59 for 18 holes that frequently? 😁

Last few yrs she has shot in 60s at the Founders pretty regularly.

Unfortunately, her score suffers when she gets tired which happening sooner and more often now.

Yeah, you get a women close to 6'0 ft and an athletic build and they can usually crush it.  She is hitting it better now than she has, she did match 279 the year she won the distance title in 2017.

However she is rl thin for her height.

What helps is being rl limber and flexible to reach deep swing positions to develop torque and spin the hips fast.

No rounds in the 60's at The Founders event since 2018.

No, remember seeing 60s at both mtm ridge and upper Montclair.

At least 1x when she was going to shoot 64 then faded last few holes when she got tired.

Talked to vols who were her standard and walking scorer from different rounds.

Is Laura Davies still making "turf tees" i.e. hitting driver shots without a traditional tee... by making a huge divot-tee with her wedge etc?

Video: https://www.golfchannel.com/video/davies-drives-ball-turf-tee-turkey

https://golf.com/instruction/approach-shots/what-is-a-turf-tee-golf/

https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2021/02/19/dame-laura-davies-turf-tee-solheim-cup/

Quote

"For those who haven’t heard the story, how did you come to use a turf pyramid rather than tee to hit driver?

I hit a terrible tee shot somewhere in the Carolinas. It was a par 5, I was playing with Nancy Lopez of all people, and I hit a tee shot about 100 yards right off the tee. From that point onwards I had the yips with the driver. I couldn’t get through it. This was April/May. By the time we got to Vegas for the Tour Championship, I’d been hitting a lot of drivers off the deck on par 5s for my second shots. My brother, who was caddying for me at the time, said, ‘Why don’t you start hitting driver off the deck on the tee?’ That’s basically how it started.

What year was that?

Well my brother was caddying so it would’ve been between 1988 and 1991. Like I said, the original mound was very, very small. It was like hitting it off the deck. But nowadays, it’s as big as I can get the mound to be basically. The driver is a little bigger and the confidence is there. I don’t have to do it anymore, but I quite still like the theory behind it. It makes you get through the ball. It’s a much harder shot to hit, concentrates the mind a lot more. Being off the deck, it made me really stay down through the ball, and that’s the reason I still do it."

I now see why the LPGA most weeks has easy set ups and wide open fairways, otherwise 10% of the field will withdraw before the end of round 2.  lol

Yea, I can't believe how much easier the course is that the ladies are playing this week than what the men are playing. It's not even close.

Said with tongue firmly in cheek, lol.

Miraculously, it looks like Yealimi will make the cut!

She's made three cuts this year but with listless finishes and minimum CME Globe points, thus a CME ranking of #127.  I'm at a loss of why she can't strike gold from time to time like in 2019-2021!

The way she's playing, she needs to strike gold and finish solo 3rd or better at one of the tournaments to secure her LPGA card.

More miraculously, Yuna Nishimura made the cut 🤪.  This girl's score is schizo - 78 R1, 67 R2.

But I'd put it to growing pains/adjustment - she almost declined to join the LPGA seeing her place "so low" on QSeries (she was aiming better than how she finished - yes despite finishing good there).  Her mum is there too now to support her.

Minjee's putting though is, how do we put(t) it, frustrating.   Hope she gets out of her "slump".

Had chance to talk with some of the green setup crew. The greens were running a bit over 12.5 stimp to start the day.

Estimate that greens finished well over 13+stimp after the almost 90f heat.

Green definitely dried out with inconsistent 20-30mph gusts. At least in afternoon, it seemed mostly cross winds.

Definitely made GIR and fairway finding  more difficult.

Nice that Sarah Kemp is continuing good play after some doubt(ers) whether she belonged on “Crown” team.  She earned her spot, and I bet it meant even more to her than it would have to Grace Kim.

For a bit Kemp was leading the tournament at -9 until she bogied think the 16th coming in.

Think she finished at -8.

This week, one of the driving measuring hole is the par4 11th 406yd which runs south next to the north bound Garden State Parkway.

Yes there is constant din of traffic and definitely an occasional honk to keep you on your toes.

As I have done the measuring regularly, know this week's measurer, a former surveyer.

Longest

Fri Maria Fassi 300yd into a 12-15mph wind.

Late tee time for Mel Reid, as she won longest drive w 306.

Thurs 300yd into the wind.

None of the usual suspects.

Unofficially, Maria Fassi 330+yd in a cross wind. She nearly hit us in the cart as she drove the ball into the pond next to the cart path.

It was easily 20+yds longer than next longest drive.
