I now see why the LPGA most weeks has easy set ups and wide open fairways, otherwise 10% of the field will withdraw before the end of round 2.  lol

After working the Seniors, LPGA, PGA regular, playoffs and major events for decades, that isn't accurate.

Many guys are known for bomb and gouge.

Except for a few, the ladies are Fairways and Greens. Bomb n Gouge definitely isn't in the ladies vocabulary.

Upper Montclair CC is known for tight routing esp w mature tall leafy trees.

Have seen many more PGA courses setup wider than Upper Montclair CC.

Jin Young with a good week going. Hope the injury s in the rearview mirror.

I think the injury was only very minor. If you read all the work she put in during the season break there is no way you would do that with a serious wrist injury. She even said it was other issues with her game she was working on which it appears she has fixed. Big loss for the LPGA ratings now that Nelly, Lillia and.....oh Laura Davies have missed the cut 😂

Is Laura Davies still making "turf tees" i.e. hitting driver shots without a traditional tee... by making a huge divot-tee with her wedge etc?

Lately haven't seen her make that big a "divot" and esp not w wedge.

It's been more lean on grass behind "tee" and more nuanced and less damage

This week, one of the driving measuring hole is the par4 11th 406yd which runs south next to the north bound Garden State Parkway.

Yes there is constant din of traffic and definitely an occasional honk to keep you on your toes.

As I have done the measuring regularly, know this week's measurer, a former surveryer.

Longest

Fri Maria Fassi 300yd into a 12-15mph wind.

Thurs 300yd into the wind.

None of the usual suspects.

Unofficially, Maria Fassi 330+yd in a cross wind. She nearly hit us in the cart as she drove the ball into the pond next to the cart path.

It was easily 20yds longer than next drive off the tree next to lake.

The fairway Marshall on the 18th at the Chevron in Houston told that the two longest drives on that hole were Nelly and Amari Avery.

until Maria Fassi showed up. It was fully 20 yards longer.

Fassi is cool to watch

In round 1 I can't remember which hole it was Nelly's ball flew the green and went under the grandstand. I doubt she was able to get down and see it to identify it was her ball......if she couldn't was she still entitled to take a free drop as she did?

On most holes when there are marshall by the green, they can be verification as spotters.

Looks like Laura Davies is back to making "DIY Turf Tees"! (big ones!)
... perhaps only when @aabcuue / marshals  and the greens supervisor weren't looking)

Yes, she was entitled to relief. A ball lost in a temporary immovable obstruction does not need to be found and identified. As long as it was virtually certain to have entered the TIO, the player takes relief where it entered.

See section 'd'.

JYK sounded very tired on her interview..   Hopefully she'll rest well and win the tournament..

Yes, and she "slept in".  Normally she's an hour earlier on the course as she said.

She wakes up 3-3.5 hrs earlier before tee time but today, most likely only 2-2.5 hrs.   Probably needs a little bit of waffles with her "honey inside the bag" for energy today.

I spent the morning at the Regions Tournament visiting with a lot of old friends.  Came home and turned on coverage of the Cognizant (an hour in) and the spectator turnout is horrible for this event.  The tri-state area has always been hit or miss except for Bethpage, but this is 4 weeks in a row for the L.  Not a good look for the sponsors.

Crowds were much better at the Seniors Tour event.

Minjee looked solid today. Still surprising that 5 under is the best round of the day. Tough course.

Jin Young struggled off the tee, and paid the price. Nice finish, though. Still in the hunt.

Not naming names, but does it really take 2 minutes to hit a tee shot?

Now am curious ... pls name the slow player(s)? Or use a version of cockney rhyming slang if you want e.g. "Misty Fir"? ...

I watched a little of both and thought the same. I sure wish the LPGA held a tournament in my neck of the woods. The low turnout would make for awesome up close viewing in person. I can't understand why people wouldn't want to go walk a nice course and see top notch play. Sounds like a nice Saturday to me.

I play this course a lot. It’s not easy. Wondering why they don’t finish with 9 which is a great long risk reward par 5 with the new beautiful clubhouse in the background with 18 which is a super short par 4. No one even hits driver off that tee. Boring finishing hole.  There’s three nines so just could’ve flipped them. Also what a joke of a par 5 for these talented ladies. 471? No more like 420. Minjee had 150 left for her second. She doesn’t drive it 321

It rl depends on which Sr events.

Have been to more than a few w similar attendance to this yr.

Seems some chatter around the yard is it wasn't a good idea to have tournament on mothers day we. It depressed attendance on many levels.

Yet other chatter has the timing is a celebration of women. The problem is the historical LPGA attendance and who attends isn't the same as the PGA or even the Seniors.

Last yr attendance was definitely higher. Fwiw, remember the 17th hole par3 Pavillion/club was quite a bit too loud and reminded many of WMO Phoenix party scene. Some pro were also put back by the scene.

This yr the same pavillion/club hasn't been wall to wall people w many loud drunks. It's been rather sedate w/o the drunks.

Course order and setup has been questioned by many.

Best answer why not is its political and sizeable member view. The 9th hole finishes w lrg apt complex in background. Current modified 18th doesn't have that view.

General view for original 18th is if it was good enough for Jack, Arnie, et.al. then it is good enough for current pros.

As this the time of great technology, why can't finish still be at current 9th and not show the background. View of golf shots could be from the side and not from behind or from the green to the tee instead.

I only caught a bit of the last hour of coverage today. They showed shots from behind a couple of  players on 18 and you could see that overgrown apartment complex in the background.
