Stealth 2+ fairway hard to hit

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone is gaming a stealth2+ fairway wood and what your opinions are on it.

I am currently gaming a stealth2+ in my 3w and I've had some difficulty hitting it so far. It has a ventus tr blue 7x shaft at around 43".

I can hit it well at times but even on good hits, it seemingly doesn't have much "feel". I find it hard to feel the club head throughout my swing and on impact I don't seem to get as much feedback, which makes it hard to make adjustments. Most clubs, I can tell what the flight path will be on impact but with the stealth2+, I don't know until I look up to watch the ball.

For my 5w I have the sim2 ti in a ventus tr blue 8x at 42" and I really love it. Due to my inability to feel the clubhead in the 3w, my interpretation was that the club felt really light so I added some lead tape under the sole. The swingweight is now 2 points heavier than the 5w but yet it still feels alot lighter than my 5w.

The other oddity is that throughout my bag I typically have a slight in-to-out swing path but there is something about the balance in my stealth2+/shaft combo that is causing me to swing slightly out-to-in.

Just curious what other's experiences are with the stealth 2+ fairway wood.

Did you add weight to the head? Stock length is 43.25. You play it at 43. You can't feel the head because the swing weight is too light. You probably need to add 3-5g of weight back to the head. It'll make a big difference.

I didn't find it difficult to hit. It's the easiest to hit "+ model" fwy from TM ever.

It is very punishing on heel strikes tho.

Add more lead tape to the sole.  I found the S2+ to be punishing on heel strikes but ball speeds were really high on ones hit on the screws.  Not the most forgiving, but not the most punishing either.

I have the Stealth plus and Stealth 2 plus 5 wood side by side with the same shaft, trying all kind of settings.  End up selling the 2 plus, Stealth plus just more forgiving in my hands.

Yes I've added lead tape underneath the sole, the measured swingweight is heavier than my 5w but even so it still feels lighter to me.

I've added lead tape to the sole and its swingweight is still lighter than my 5w but feels lighter for some reason. Just seems to have a weird balance to it.

Yes, i've tried this. My 3w swingspeed is around 105 mph so with the weight to the back it launches very high with a lot of spin (on the occasion that I actually strike it well) and at that point I can hit my 5w to a similar distance.

Interesting. I have a 16.5 Stealth 2 + arriving next week. I hit my TSR2+ well. Maybe I should just return it 😂

haha well I know that many people seem to like the stealth2+ so I don't know. I've hit the TSR2 and TSR3 in the bay at my local golf store and they both felt fine to me, although they both had the stock shafts in them. I've never really had similar struggles with the previous 3woods i've had either. Maybe it's more of a shaft issue instead of the clubhead. I have both my ventus tr blue 5w and 3w shafts tipped just over an inch. I figured since it felt good in my 5w that tipping it that much would be fine in the 3w as well.

I gamed the S2+for the early part of this year. I can say that the S2+ has the least amount of feel or feedback from a FW I have ever hit. To me this was not a huge red flag but just a characteristic of this club. Granted I am not very verse in TM FW the last one being a short stint with the SIM MAX FW.

But comparatively I've been more of a callaway FW and they have tons of feedback/feel through the hands and by sound. In all I thought it was a great hot faced fairway wood and I still would of been gaming it if I didnt run into the BRNR and using it as my 2W/3W now

Hard to hit...no...at least for me.

I have had TM FW in the past and the Stealth 2 + FW are the best yet in terms of performance, feel, sound, and more adjustability.

I like them so much that own a 2 Rocket, 3, 4, and 6 FW....they are not going anywhere!

Have had Titleist, PXG, and Cally in the past....Stealth 2+ beats them all.

Take a look at the g430 LST. It’s hot, but def more forgiving than the Stealth 2+. I think the Stealth 2+ is so hot and  so low spin that mishits are punished big time.

What was the issue? I have been testing one and it seems amazing off a mat. Concern is how it will actually be on course.

You may see more spin on the course depending your AoA into the ball with any fairway metal especially if you take divots.

The tsr2+ is 190cc vs stealth 2+ is 170cc...stealth wins off the deck

The Stealth2+ has much better adjustability for launch control vs the tsr2+...stealth wins

Prefer the feel of the stealth2+ being a bit softer than the Titleist tsr2+...stealth my preference.

The easy answer is obviously "get fit" but it's weird you'd like the other heads in the line with the "normal" progression of shafts and not get along with just one of em. What length do you play driver?

Yea unfortunately I live in Canada in an area where I don't have access to any good fitters. The best I can do is buy, take them to a bay and on the course and try them out, then sell them if I don't like them. I might make a little roadtrip south to a club champion in the winter sometime. Yea I agree, I think that's why I was confused why it has been so hard to hit for me. I play 45.5" at the moment but I used to play 45.25" and might go back to that length.

Gotcha. It just didn't win for me. I was pretty surprised too. Never got along with Titleist driver or woods before. I am still concerned how it will work on course because it will not be used off the tee primarily. I thought they were both pretty adjustable. I also do not like a closed face at all. I will try them both again soon.

My stealth2+ fw are Tour Issue with positive face angles, ie open....0.7*

They look very square to my eye.

Note...loft is 12.8*

I was wondering if maybe proportionally the 3w is too short and that's why you're having trouble feeling the face. But I can't imagine .25" makes a big difference and then like you said you added lead tape.

I had the sample problem with my 3W Stealth 2+ until I slid the back weight all the way back and changed the shaft to a Ventus Blue 6S. For reference, I play the Stealth 2+ driver with a Ventus Black 6s

Now it's become on of my most reliable clubs in the bag and I use it a lot off the tee as well

Yea .25" doesn't seem like much. I think for now i'm gonna try putting my 5w head on my 3w shaft and turn it down to 17*. I think that'll give me a decent idea if maybe the shaft is tipped a little too much or if it is actually the stealth2+ head that I'm struggling with.

For sure, that's a good idea. Could do the opposite as well because you know you like the 5w shaft, so 3w head on it would lead to more knowledge about that head. I think swing weights get a little wonky doing stuff like that so just keep that in mind, might not be the absolute best test since you do seem to notice stuff like that. Good luck with the testing, curious what you find out.
