More questions about Srixon Zx5 and Zx7 irons.

I'm a big fan of the zx7. Sort of the perfect do all iron. Feel softer than mizuno which I use for wedges. I honestly think the sole can help everybody and its more in ppls heads if it doesn't.

I have last years ZX7s 4-p that I got a good deal on. The 4-6 are not as hard as I would expect them to be. Sometimes I'm tempted to order a ZX5 4-5 just to see, but I wouldn't count out being able to hit the zx7 in the longer clubs if they fit your eye better.

That's what I'm wondering.

I may be able to hit the Zx7 in longer irons, but if the Zx5 hits easier, and the ball flies better that will be the one.

I went to the fitting today.

They didn't have a lot of KBS shafts.

We started with a Zx5 - 7 iron.

The only stiff they had was a $-taper. It felt stiff, but weird.

The Nippon Modus 105 Tour  was light and easy to swing, but it would draw or cut every time with no control .

I tried to shape or influence the direction of the 105, but it did what it wanted.

The Nippon Modus 120 Tour felt right.

It was similar to my current Mizuno JPX 800 Pro with DG  S300 shafts.

We didn't get to try the Zx7 irons.

Weather wasn't good.

It was raining from light to heavy  at times .

Thunder, and my lightning tracker showed strikes that were getting close.

It's strange that the other shafts didn't do that.

The shaft felt floppy weak.

It was like hitting a womens club or a kids club.

Wouldn't that be dispersion problems?

Two days in with ZX5's replacing my i500's. What a great set of irons. I expected to lose a little distance but i don't think i have. Loving them so far and hit them well from shot 1.

Ordered a mixed set of Srixon Zx5/Zx7 .

They came in today.

These are the first models ( MK1).

4,5,6 Zx5 . 7,8,9,PW Zx7.

The Zx7s aren't hard for me to hit.

Both 5&7 are forgiving.

You can tell if it's a heel or toe shot, but it doesn't sting your hands.

The shafts are 120 Modus 3 Stiff flex.

They do launch high, but don't balloon.

It is a penetrating flight.

Thanks for all the advice and help in here.

If I can answer any questions, just ask.

I’ve played the original x5 and x7 irons for 2 years. Started off with a combo set of x5 5-7 and x7 7-pitch with modus 105 shafts.

I liked the feeling of the x7s a lot more so I wound up buying 5-7 in x7s as well.

I wound up staying with x5 in my 5 iron and 6-p x7s. Didn’t have to adjust lofts at all. The 5 iron in x7 was just a bit small for me and that’s where I saw a drop off in performance. I also use my 5 iron a lot on short and tight par 4s off the tee and when laying up on par 5s. For some reason I just couldn’t consistently hit the x7 5 iron but I don’t have an issue with the 6 iron.

I’m about a 10 handicap and decent ball striker. Good luck.

I have played a mixed set of 3-4i 565/5-GW 765,  5-6i 585/ 7-GW 785, 5-7i ZX5/8-GW ZX7, and current 4i ZX4, 5-6i ZX5/ 7-PW ZX7.

I have also tried blending in Srixon 4 utility iron, but wasn't happy with it, much prefer the current ZX4 though.   I never have adjusted the lofts, as I wanted to play the V-sole as it was designed.

That can happen. I do the same thing with the clubs at top golf 😆

I'm going to a Srixon demo day Friday.

I'm interested in the Zx5/Zx7 mixed sets

The shafts at are most appealing are the NS Modus and the KBS.

But any shaft they want me to try is doable.

My main question is  what iron do most people separate the set with?

My ball striking is decent, but Zx7 in the longer irons doesn't sound good if it's an off day.

There are a lot of sets with the 7 iron on down being a Zx7.

My thoughts are the 8 iron down.

5 iron is always  the longest iron in my bag, other than a driving iron sometimes.

My swing will usually let me hit irons that are too advanced for me in the 9 iron and PW.

This is just to get opinions of the ones that have mixed sets, or went with Zx5 because the Zx7's weren't forgiving at all to them.

Hopefully this demo rep will have quite a few choices, but usually they just have 7 irons with a lot of shafts.

Thanks

Jack

Ik it's all personal but the Zx7's are pretty dang easy to hit IMO. They're a bit larger (if my memory serves) than an iron like Titleist's T100, and with a bit more offset. So you might actually find that a combo-set isn't necessary because, IMO, the the Zx7's are possibly the most forgiving "players irons" on the market. And they already have pretty strong lofts at the top end of the bag, so they're long too.

But golf is a game of confidence, so the slightly larger profile of the Zx5's might give people the extra confidence that they need

I’m testing out a combo with the 4 and 5 irons being ZX5’s. This is all on paper at this point but if I keep them, I’m thinking of bending the 5 iron 2 degrees weak and bending the 4 iron 1 degree weak. I’ve heard that the ZX5’s are 5 yards longer at the same loft, so a I think a 2 degree loft between the 5 and 6 iron would give me a 12 yard gap or so. I’d also then have a 3 degree gap between 4 and 5 irons, which makes sense.

I got my mixed set yesterday.

I've hit twice at the range and I will probably bend a couple of irons.

The yardages aren't totally dialed in yet.

I'll post back later about it.

My mixed set came in yesterday.

I hit them today at the range and at home.

These irons are so easy to hit, I could have ordered a set of all Zx5's, or all Zx7's.

The 7s cut thru the grass really well, launch high ( not too high) , and land soft.

The 5s are long  with a penetrating trajectory.

The 5&6 iron are great off of short grass, and fantastic off of a tee.

My 4 iron will stay out of the bag because I have a hybrid that is perfect for that distance.

Maybe it's the Nippon Modus 120 stiff shafts, but they both feel real similar.

A set of all 7s might have been best for me.

While I haven't seen them I person, the x5 & x7 soles look identical.

That made me wonder about all the combo sets being offered.

The 5 series soles are huge compared to the 7.

I went to demo day earlier this week. Currently play Z745s 3-PW. MkIis are very nice, loved hitting them with the MMT105S shaft.

I could play the same 3-PW in the ZX7s, but am leaning towards 3-5 in ZX5. The new MKIis ZX5s shape and size are much improved from older versions. Seem like smaller heads and not such a look of shovels. It’s free help in the long irons.

Glad you're liking them! That's awesome. Whether it's mixed, all 7s, or all 5s - they are an amazing set of irons that will serve you well. I actually just bought a set of Zx7's, arriving Sunday, and I'm going to sell my T100's. It's not that I don't like the T100's but the shafts I have are awful (for me), and the wrong length. Plus I managed to find a new set of marked-down previous gen Zx7's with the shafts I want (modus 120 extra-stiff). Reshafting would've been nearly the same price bc I ain't doing it myself for numerous reasons, plus i just want Zx's 😂

I hit the Zx7's when I was fit into T100's, and I knew they had the edge in feel, but I was too biased towards Titleist at the time; as was the fitter since they're more expensive. Fwiw, this was over 2 years ago so I didn't know anything about shaft options (despite playing golf all my life) going in and just completely relied on my fitter. Learned enough between then and now so I don't need a custom fitter and their jacked costs. Just give me a trackman and i can decide myself (rant over 🤣)

I'm getting. Great distance , and accurate straight shots with out a lot of effort.

My elbows don't hurt after hitting at the range anymore.

I played the irons for the first time Sunday evening.

It'll take getting used to

The Zx7s (7-PW) are a little longer than the JPX 800s  I was playing.

The Zx5's are definitely longer, and so easy to hit.

The ball jumps off of the club face and flies long and high. It seems no effort to swing these.

I've noticed that with these new clubs and the Nippon shafts that my elbows don't hurt after hitting.

This is one of the reasons why the Z745 is the best iron ever made.

I finally was able to use my ZX5 MK2 4-PW last night on the course. Was really happy with the performance. The 4 iron was very impressive for me. Very long and straight. Can't wait to hit them again

I've started carrying a hybrid the last few years, and leave my 4 iron at home.

After hitting the Zx5 - 4 iron the other day, I'm having 2nd thoughts on the hybrid.

I picked up the ZX 4H on a whim and found is to be a fantastic compliment to any of the Z line irons for anyone looking to combo. It's more iron-like than most and a joy to use. You can find them exceptionally cheap on 2nd Swing right now.

I can hit a 4i, but it is so much easier to hit a 4H or 9W.
