Old Man Winter wallops northeast...

For the past two plus years, winter golfers like me from the northeast / Long Island have been blessed with perfect winter weather totally devoid of snow cover. 

 

I guess our luck just ran out with Old Man Winter bringing in a couple of snow storms within the last month or so with the most recent one dropping a hefty 5.7" in my area.

 

This means that golf this weekend will not be an option as the snow cover may take at least a week to clear up. 

 

We dodged a bullet during the first snow storm that hit on a Monday, as it only took a few days for the snow cover to clear up due to rain that hit two days after which accelerated the melting of the snow cover (less than 3") in time for golfers like me who were able to play by Saturday of that same week. 

 

This time around, Mother Nature's timing isn't as good as before and she won't be sending rain this week so this weekend will be a NO-GO for golfers like me on Long Island. The best she could do is 40% chance of rain by Thursday next week. 😤

 

I'd be interested to know from other golfers in the northeast if they'll be faring any better or will have a better chance of playing this weekend despite the snow storm.

That storm missed Michigan but we are predicted to get a few inches Thursday.    A few courses were open last week but closed when the warm temps disappeared.

Got tee times (in Virginia) for both days this weekend.  It will be chilly but sunny.

Will be thinking of our friends to the north.  Then again, probably not.

Be positive.  It will melt and you will play very soon.

Where in Canada are you? Cause in Niagara/Hamilton we've got nothing... and there's only really been one decent snowfall so far all winter. We've had snow on the ground for maybe 2-3 weeks so far this entire winter.

I'm in Toronto and El Nino has been kind to us.., but no real courses are open and ground is still frozen.... Seriously thinking about packing up the car and driving down to HHI with the family..

65 and sunny next few days here in the SE.  Our summers are hot as balls but we generally get to play year round, albeit with wet, tight, dormant conditions.

Central NJ here. Agree w/ @Golfbit2X ... past couple years in the northeast were unusually fantastic. In fact last winter it didn't snow even once. Had several weekends in January and February where temps were in the 50s and even low 60s.

 

This year completely blows. Cold, gray and miserable most of the time. This last storm dumped around 6 inches, and its barely starting to melt. Temps not supposed to get out of the 30s all week. 

 

No golf for me this weekend.

Mid-Atlantic weather is always cruel this time of year - regardless of temperature. Untimely moisture is always the problem. 

 

But, scheduled to play in cool and undoubtedly sloppy conditions on Sunday. 

 

Thank god I don't live in Canada! 🙂

12 inches here in NEPA on Tuesday. Glad I got out on Saturday.

Typically play all during the winter as well. Outside of Boston we didn't really get any snow, although we're expecting a few inches tonight that will cover the available courses.  Hopefully the snow won't happen and it should be ok to play this weekend, although it's only supposed to be about 35* outside.  Played last weekend and it was pretty sloppy, with standing water and wet turf, but at least I got to play.

It can snow or rain all it wants during January and February but come March, I want to be outside with new grips and feeling the grass underneath my shoes.

Central Indiana got tagged for 4 inches of snow yesterday, and now the roads are sheets of ice.  60F on Wednesday.  😂

 

2nd snow storm this year.  But can't complain really.  I only have had to go 3 weeks without golf this winter.
