New project X denali shaft....

Recommended Posts

Thought it was interesting that in black it came in extra stiff, but in blue which is notorious for being softer than black came in TX.

Was looking to get the denali blue in my 3 wood, but was surprised no extra stiff offering.

The 60, 70 & 80 Blue all come in TX. The 80 comes in TX only. Only the 50 profile in the Blue has no TX.

Availability seems sparse right now. But True Temper's website lists all of the offerings for each sub-model of the Denali. Ignore the "black" on the link.

Colors are meant to “match”. Black to black, blue to blue.

I have a blue in my driver currently but haven’t been able to test much due to winter. So far a fan

Do you have any specific feedback on the Blue? Is there another shaft out there that is similar (feel, launch, spin)? Thanks!

I’m the worst person to ask about this. I don’t mess around with Lm’s much. The last two shafts I’ve had around for a decent amount of time were a kai’li white and a gen 4 hzrdus black.

imo it’s way smoother but I haven’t seen a substantial difference in performance aside from that. I am playing it a degree lower in a different head so apples to oranges as well. Would love to get some track man numbers soon just haven’t been playing as much with the season either.

I know this was worthless information so

I’m sorry I just didn’t want to ignore you lol

Honestly, user feedback is going to be hard to come by until enough people get one in their hands. I intend to try one at some point to see how it feels. Though, my experience will be a little skewed. I use 80g shafts in my driver and the head weight will change the overall response. Though, it'll be like for like at least.

Yet, that's some months away. I can't buy more golf stuff for a while LOL.

I have a blue 70Tx in my driver for the last two rounds and loving it so far. Spin is on point - mid flight and piercing. Been soaked up here in NJ - so can’t tell runout but they’re carrying a very good distance compared to other longer distance shafts I’ve played.

Was fit into the AI Smoke TD today and the stock Denali shaft was seriously impressive.  I got better numbers with the stock Denali shaft than most of the upcharge offerings.  My question is, is this the real deal Denali?  My fitter says no but the performance was great.  If this isn't the real deal Denali, what is the difference?  Is it similar to the non-velocore vs. velocore ventus offerings?

I just went in for a shaft fitting. I have been using the 50 gram reg silver hzrdus stock. The fitter told me he thought I was more of a x-stiff guy. He put me on the denali and my numbers were crazy better. I had been averaging maybe 240 with the silver. I was getting 250 to 260 on mishits with the denali 70 x-stiff and like 290 300 on the bombed ones. So it made huge improvements to my distance. I played a 9 hole round after fitting and the numbers matched up. Just hope I can continue to hit this good. Way straighter ball flight. Cut my spin from 3-4k down to 1800 to 2500 aswell!

Sounds like my experience as well.  I was coming from stealth plus with Accra tz5 m5 which is a set up I absolutely love! That being said the mishits were too punishing as spin just skyrocketed for me.  The ai smoke TD with the Denali black 70 6.5 really was an awesome setup.  On comparable mishits the spin difference was literally a thousand rpm’s.  Crazy.  Denali really provides stability while maintaining a smooth feel.  It’s eerily similar to a Ventus blue TR feel wise.

Yes, for me it does feel like a ventus blue TR and Accra tz5 had a baby. I swing at 114-116 with and this resembles the smooth but stable feel ventus blue TR.

I took a demo out and played it a few rounds in an AI Smoke.  I absolutely loved it.  It was a stiff flex in the AI Smoke Max driver at 9*.  Loved it some much after 4-5 rounds that I ordered one.  Immediately, I noticed that something was off on the one I purchased, or should I say different.  It seemed shorter in distance and it felt noticeably lighter.  After a few rounds of struggling with the new one, I decided to try to figure out what was different.  First thing I checked was the weight.

demo head weight = 190.5 grams

head weight out of the one I received = 184 grams

demo shaft weight (includes grip and adapter, basically just shaft laid on the scales) = 123 grams

shaft weight out of the purchased driver = 118 grams

You'd think a 650 dollar driver would be closer in tolerance than that and I say all this to say that 5 grams is a pretty big difference in tolerances on a 60 grams stiff shaft IMO so I wonder about the quality control on them.

Could it be possible you ordered a grip that was 6g less than the demo you tried? I would doubt the shaft is 6g lighter. Also did you cut it down from what you demoed? That would remove a gram or 2.

No, it was supposed to be exactly the same.  The club came with the same type of factory Callaway grip, same length and everything.  The club was noticeably lighter from the first time I swung it and that was confirmed by weighing them.  It made me think there has to be some quality control issues going on somewhere.

again, i doubt it is the shaft. I found grips can vary from +/- 3.5 grams. The one in your demo club could have been on the heavy end of that and what you got built was on the lower end. As for the head weights, that also has a tolerance but it is shocking how much they can be off by. Maybe someone else with more building experience can chime in but this seems like it is  within build tolerances from an OEM.

Is there really a “made for” version Callaway is using in the Ai Smoke line?

I have no idea.  Thats what the fitter said Callaway told them but who knows.  It performs well for me so I don’t really care anymore lol
