Mizuno 243 vs Ping Blueprint S

Cole Fleming

Recommended Posts

I’ve hit both of these irons I like both. I personally think 243s felt better and were hotter but ping was more consistent. I’m stuck between both the 243 had my gamer shaft px Lz 6.5 so hit them better but bps were almost as good with a shaft I’m not ya fan of x100 130g. Wondering other people’s thoughts as I’ve only been able to hit 7i

I hit both extensively in addition to Apex CB and T100.

it came down to Blueprint S and 243 for me. In the end i felt the 243 were marginally more forgiving (not much), but I actually had better numbers with Blueprint including ball speed and dispersion. 243 a hint softer.

I did prefer the more compact nature of the Blueprint. I do not think you can go wrong with either.

I had similar results but higher bs with 243s. I’m going for an actual fit tomorrow so we will see. Glad to see our results were similar

I think this is a win/win decision, I went with the 243s and they are awesome, came down feel/sound for me which is totally subjective.

With the 243's is there a noticeable feel difference going from the micro-slot in the 4-7 to without in the 8-PW?  Not saying that if it's noticeable it's necessarily bad...just wondering.

243 are going to be 1 degree stronger across the board. If I went 243 I’d have to get them 1 degree weak(which I very well may do at some point), otherwise stock vs stock they aren’t super comparable in my mind.

So i disagree i hit both yesterday same shafts and i flew them both the same distance same spin height launch etc. But ping was actually 2yds longer, higher and launched lower. 98-100 mph swing speed.

Seems like there would have to be a ball-speed difference (and maybe swing speed?) behind those numbers.

My speed stayed between 98-100 on all the shots. Ball speed for both was around 128/129 i believe. that's an avg over 15 shots with each

This was almost my exact experience as well.  The blueprints were fast and pretty incredible at maintaining ball speed and spin-sistency on mishits.  I did not see any crazy high spin jump which I can sometimes get with an iron like the t100 or jpx tour.

front to back dispersion is really good.

yeah i agree but 243s mishit forgiveness is just so much better i almost didn't loose any distance

Interesting results!  I'm still going 1 degree weak on the 243 if I get them. My 7 iron is more like 5400 spin with my BPS at 33* and I don't want a 6 degree gap between the PW and my 50*

Same specs for myself. Haven’t had them checked, but I did get a super detailed spec sheet in my order.

I think these are the two best irons (in their category) released this year. The 243’s had a slight edge in forgiveness and ball speed for me.

At this point, I don’t believe in jumpers due to club design. It’s a myth. Golfers do not swing the same every time.

No issues with consistency on the 243. It was very strong in that regard. I was getting same distances within a few yards on every shot. Between these two clubs I think it’s just personal preference. For me the 243s distinguish themselves in the longer irons. Very easy to hit and little speed loss on mishits. They both feel great. Distances can be adjusted as needed via loft changes. One is not any longer than the other.

For what it is worth, I went to PGA Tour Superstore and got to briefly demo both the 243 and the Blueprint S.  I hit 10 balls with the 243 w/X100 and you could have thrown a blanket over all of them.  The Blueprint S had the 120g X100 so the feel was a bit different.  I hit 12 balls with the S... two were obvious mishits, but the other 10 overlapped nicely with the 243's pattern.  The stats from the simulator showed that, when taking into account that the S is 1* weaker than the 243, the two irons were basically identical for me.  I didn't get to hit anything other than the 7 iron, so maybe the two sets differentiate themselves in the other clubs, but it seems like you can't go wrong with either club.

Tough year for me as I've flip flopped between Ping and Mizuno irons for the last 30 years starting with Ping Zing and then to Tzoid Pro, lol. I already bought BPS, but guess I'll have to get the 243 as well. Time to build a "backup bag" I suppose 🤔

I went for a fitting 2 weeks ago - the Blueprint S are in the bag.  Narrowed down to the BPS and 243’s.  243 were too hot off the face.  Scared to get fliers.  The Ping felt sooo much better to me, and the consistency was like playing darts.  Today’s Golfer got some data for both, and gave BPS’s the players iron of the year.  Their data is what I saw in fitting, BPS went 3 yards further. 243’s dispersion was 387 sq ft, while BPS was 118 sq ft.  I love mizunos, and just came from 223’s, but they don’t touch the new Ping BPS imo.

I demoed both these sets on trackman and the data is splitting hairs.

DG120X in both.
Very similar for me.  The BPS dispersion was a bit better and both were impressive.

No one can answer that question for you. If you have any lean towards one, go with it. Both of them are awesome options. I have gone with Ping Blueprint S this year. I tried T150, TC201, ZX7 Mkii, Apex MB/CB and the Blueprint S give me the best results in the package I want to look at.

The Mizuno are great clubs though. Good performance and classic Mizuno feel/looks. You just have to trust your instincts if the data is too close to decide for you.

In all honesty, I have the 243’s and I’m going to order the Blueprint S because I need to get them to spec, test them on actual grass and various lies, and then keep the winner. Both are fantastic off mats, but the proof will be in the outdoor dispersion as well turf interaction.

It came down to these 2 for me as well.  Having played both my last set was i59, the set before that was MMC20s.  They’re both really good heads.  I went Ping this time around they were a “little” better in look feel and performance.  Can’t go wrong with either.  Also a honorable mention to the Wilson staff, solid offer this year as well.  I had UST Dart Vs installed in mine.  First round this morning, excited to see how the Dart Vs do compared to the MMTs I had in the i59s.
