Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches 2024 (*** NO LIV DISCUSSIONS ***)

Roll off the tongue it does not but the Cognizat Classis in The Palm Beaches provides the stop in what is week 9 of the 2024 PGA Tour season. Whilst the name is new (and hopefully one they can find a spiffier title for in due course) the event itself is not. In old money this is the Honda Classic and PGA National is once again the host venue. The field is undeniably stronger than that which presented itself last week and we see the return of some bigger names as the countdown to an event in Georgia really begins to tick into gear. Last time around Chris Kirk marked his return to the winners circle after an 8 year hiatus by birding the first playoff hole against Eric Cole who went on to claim rookie of the year honours. Kirk is back in the field but will have to contend with a decent field which will feature a number of guys including McIlroy who will be hoping to make the most of sleeping in their own beds to get over the line and claim spoils.

Defending Champion:-

Chris Kirk

Notables in the Field:-

Rory McIlroy

Matt Fitzpatrick

Tom Kim

Cameron Young

Shane Lowry

Justin Rose

Matthieu Pavon

Russell Henley

Rickie Fowler

Sunjae Im

Jake Knapp

Course:-

PGA National (Champion Course)

Par 71 (up from 70 previously)

7,147 yards

Chris Kirk wins Honda Classic in playoff; 1st title since 2015 - ESPN

Another opportunity for Eric Cole and Brendon Todd to exert their dominance.

Rory is playing, so I will be watching.

Having said that, I really did enjoy watching Jake hold off Sami last week.  It's fun to see an unknown do well, and then almost choke it away, before coming through in the end.  Good story.

I wish they could just call this the Palm Beach Classic.  The announcers could then mention that the tournament is run thanks to the sponsorship of Cognizant; and maybe explain exactly what Cognizant is/does.  They could do that once an hour and Cognizant would get just as much PR as having their name in the title.

Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove.  P.G. Wodehouse

It could have been worse. How about "The Cognizant Classic in the Gardens of the Palm Beaches"...LOL!

PXG gang I like Cole this week too. Between him, prime Luke List, and bouncer turned winner Jake Knapp, they must have nice irons 👀 Time to upgrade! 😂. Justin Lower also coming off career best week too.

LOL! When Knapp won I immediately went to his hat and said that those PXG clubs must not be that bad.🤣 How many champions do they have to date?

Before people start whining about the field remember that someone has to play while the big names take four months off. This is what happens when you get rid of the wraparound season. IMO😆

how can anyone complain about this field its considerably stronger than 2023's field at this event only 7 players inside the top 50 played 2023's honda classic compared to 19 this year.

I know, but they'll complain anyway. 🙂 just my way of lobbying for the return of the wraparound season though. 😆

I used to love this event when it was a full field event back in the day. Hopefully some well known names get in to a back 9 dual to wet the chops for the next few weeks

It is a full field. 144 players. It's not a limited field signature event.

Sorry I meant to say when it was a full field of top players, when they all used to turn up to here.... whereas now you only get a small handful making the trip due to where it sits in the schedule.

Just because you don’t see the old guard from past years doesn’t mean this current crop can’t play.  Lots of top 5 finishers for 2024 in the list here.

I got to play this course last year in an FSGA one day event.  It is so much more difficult than the yardage and slope rating suggest!!! The bunkers and water are perfectly positioned in fairways to keep you from taking advantage of the shorter distance and the wind just does not stop.  Every hole required complicated calculations on approach shots because of wind and because the greens are so damn fast that you can't ever be above the hole.  The greens here are faster than anywhere I have played in Florida, by a lot.

Glad to see a few big names coming because usually they don't.

they have the best club contract of any of the manufacturers out there. Most contracts, you only have to play eight clubs and you can play whatever else you want after that.
