Shafts most similar to Tensei AV Blue 75

Recommended Posts

TaylorMade seems to be having issues with their shaft inventory. I was recently fitted for a Qi10 Tour 3 wood with the Tensei AV Blue 75 X but by the time I ordered it TM stopped offering the shaft. I have 2 options. I can buy the Tensei separately and install it into the 3 wood myself or I can look for a similar performing shaft. If I buy the Tensei separately then I'd order the 3 wood with a shaft that I would cut and install in my 7 wood.

What shafts are most similar in profile to the Tensei Blue?  I'm willing to go heavier and lower launch and spin but not lighter.

If I install a Tensei Blue in my 3 wood then what shafts should I consider for my 7 wood?

I don’t know what shafts Taylormade offer.

Why wouldn’t you keep the fairway wood shafts the same?

I was fitted for a shaft that’s no longer offered. I made the mistake of buying my current fairway woods without being fit and their shafts (HZRDUS Smoke Red 75 FW) are too soft and spiny. I’m also hooking them too much.

I was hoping to go with something a little heavier. The Tensei Blue is 79 grams.

Lin-Q Blue 7X is 76g.  The heaviest shafts TM offers are Fuji's.  The Motor X F1 70x is 79g, somewhat similar to the Tensei Blue but a little lower launch and spin.  Otherwise, you have the Ventus models which all profile different than the Tensei Blue.  TM does have their made for Tensei Blue FW 75 which comes in at 79g.  Made for shafts don't get much love here but I thinks it's a pretty good shaft regardless.

The Hzrdus Red shafts currently in my 3HL and 7 woods are “made for” and they seem noticeably different then the Hzrdus Red in my driver. It’s a reason why I’m trying to avoid the “made for” Tensei.

I actually already have a Tensei Blue with a TM adapter that I planned to cut and put in the 7 wood. But now I’m thinking I should buy the Qi10 tour 3 wood with whatever shaft would best fit the 7 wood and thrown the Tensei in the 3 wood.

Would the Hzrdus Gen 4 Black 80 work in the 7 wood? I had some success with the Gen 4 Black 60 in my driver recently.

Hzrdus certainly could work but it's going to give you a firmer feel through the middle than the Tensei.

That’s the “made for” shaft that I’m trying to avoid having to order. TM has that one in stock.

I have to pick a shaft when I order the Qi10 tour 3wood. What I’m trying to decide is what shaft to order with it. Preferably I would buy it with a shaft that I can cut and put in my 7wood and just buy the Tensei Blue for the 3wood separately.

I think the new AV Limited Blue FW is going to be your best bet. Ive hit both and other than maybe slightly firmer butt section, at least in my feel, it felt like a Tensei Blue.

Its showing available online.

The Stock AV Limited 75 FW is a little sus IMO it is 10000% a TM OEM Made for and I don't even think it really has the Weave in the handle & it surely isn't using the xlink.

That's a different shaft. That shaft is the exact same as the Tensei AV Blue XLINK with a slightly different paint job. It's on the Mitsubishi website.

The shaft we're talking about is the "Tensei AV Limited Blue FW". It's a "made for" FW shaft that's not even listed on Mitsubishi's website. The specs are different.

If it were me, and I liked that shaft, I'd buy the shaft.  Tensei Blue is a mid-bend, mid-spin, mid-launch shaft, many qualify.

FYI, those fairway wood shafts were made in limited quantities.

I'd say to find a Tensei AV Blue X-Link or AV Raw Blue 75. They play very similarly - I've used both.

The Tensei Blue 75 X with XLINK? I'm pretty sure it's been around for 2 years and is in stock at all other OEMs.

XLINK material makes that shaft different from the limited edition fairway wood.  I tested one with that, it makes the shaft feel different.  Whether most users can tell the difference between the two shafts is another topic.

Yeah. I was fit for the XLINK version. I don't want the "Limited FW" version. The regular "Limited" has XLINK while the "Limited FW" may not (?).

The limited fairway does not have XLINK.  If XLINK feels right, go for it.

Sounds like you need to find the shaft you want, and wait it out. You're just objecting to everyone’s suggestions so you should just lock this thread up and find a pull on eBay.

I already bought a Tensei Blue 3 wood shaft, the exact one I was fit for. I bought it expecting to put it in my 7 wood. I have to order the 3 wood with a shaft. TM doesn't sell just clubheads. You have to order a shaft too. What shaft I should order is the question. Should I order one with a shaft I can play in the 3 wood or one that would play better in the 7 wood? Or should I just order the most valuable stock shaft and resell it?

The only suggestion I've objected too is the "made for FW" shaft. As others have said, that's a lower quality shaft. I will not be order that one.

I'm talking specifically about the one that comes in the TM QI10 Tour Fairway not the Titleist one.

Looking at golfshaftsreview:

AV Xlink and AV limited driver look almost identical profile wise.  Linear with mid hinge.

AV fairway is a "made for TM".  It is closer to classic blue board.  Stiffer on ends and softer in mid.  Looks a lot like the Kai'li blue tbh.
