I hope they read these boards because I don't know who their test audience is. Get back to the golf and leave the reality TV alone. I tolerate the Big Break, but Highway 18 is where I absolutely draw the line....though the two Ashley's in thongs sound nice... :)

You can keep the ashley twins.... Charlotte Campbell is where it is at. I've never followed her at a Future's Tour event (my allegiances lie elsewhere) but she is too fine.

Kristina Tucker was very easy on the eyes also PLUS she's got game.I prefer to watch the ladies on BB over the men.Don "Dick" Donnatello ruined that for me. {"Pull that tape tight"!!}. I thought Angel Cabreras caddie was gonna kick his a#$ at one point. That would have been cool.To see a whiney crybaby get the crap beaten out of him....on a golf course. They could call it "Golf U.F.C.". Stephanie Sparks, topless, would be welcome here! And she's got game too!

Why don't you think about the positives of it, The guys playing in these things. They get attention, People grow affection for it. It's gives them fans inside the show and outside.

I know 2 of the contestants very closely, Raul And Jameica. I work with them along with raul being my Pro at bonaventure country club, I gotta say the show isn't too much golf. But since I know them both personally I can say that this show is a very rewarding experience for both.

hopefully once this show is done....... i hope keri murphy gets more on air time with the gc

she is really a treat to watch and would be one of the top people working at the golf channel - maybe they could clear house of some of the dead wood and give keri a wider variety of programming to be involved with or host

Hey Joe

I couldn't agree with you more. I think Keri adds a breath of fresh air to The Golf Channel and would make a great host for the next BB series.

I had a chance to interview Keri this week to talk about the series and what we can expect.

I also interviewed Ashley and Ashleigh and I think the series will be a hoot with them on board. They are a couple of crazy girls who will add a lot of fun and drama to the series - if you like that kind of thing - which I do.

I too am an addict of TGC. I love playing lessons from the pros, but I hate all the product infomercials. So if Highway 18 fills in some of that ad space, then I'm a happy golfgal!

Is it just me or is Highway 18 a golf version of "Amazing Race"? Thats what it looks like to me. I wish TGC would ditch the "reality" crap and cut down on the infomercials and maybe do some shows about specific golfers past and present. Sort of a "The Life and times of....(insert golfers name)" sort of show. There could be ones on i don't know say. Ben Hogan, Lee Travino, Justin Leonard, Annika Sorenstam, anybody. Or even some more "Top 10" shows would be cool. It won't be long before there are golf versions of "The Real World" or "Laguna Beach" or "Big Brother". -GOD HELP US ALL!!

I too would like to see a lot of the older tournaments final round replays.Like ESPN "Classic" does. The thing is,IMO,I think they are trying to target a lot of youngsters who dont play golf and are trying to get them "into" golf. Many of the shows are stupid,I agree but they are entertaining.Id rather watch TGC than, pretty much any other channel except maybe "TV land" but those are reruns too.Think about it.If you were program director {any of you} how would you fill 24/7 golf with something different every day? I dont think it's quite as easy as we think. The golf and travel part, I dig.The big break? I wish it were more golf and less "gimmick" but the "drama" is what they are going after. {I think, anyway}.I mean, how blessed are we? We have a chanell that is devoted to the game we love.Im sure ABC,NBC,CBS or FOX have shows that you dont watch but also shows you do.It's all about entertainment value and ratings. That being said, there are things Id do differently but Im not the guy.Maybe write to Arnie and voice your concerns with him. He'll read it.He reads all his mail {Im told}.

Golf Channel

Where do I begin....I like the concept of the Big Break, I really thought it was a cool idea....5 years ago. However, it is time for shows like this and others of it's ilk to go away.

I dislike

The Myrtle Beach infomercial show

The Callaway Show

Infomercials

I like

The 19th hole...kind of like a golf discussion board. I think they should revamp this show and discuss some of the best posts on the various golf websites during the previous week

Golf Central

Pre & Post Game

The actual Golf Coverage

On Monday Tuesday and Wednesday I would like to see more of:

Replays of the previous weeks Final Rounds

Classic tournament rounds for the upcoming weeks tournament....kind of hypes the upcoming weeks tournament

An unbiased and by that I mean, sponsored by no equipment company, show about equipment, clothing and technology

Another news type show that covers only the mini tours and tours from around the world, so that the viewer can gain a better view of who is an up and comer...Include college golf in this show as well

A travel show for a family who makes about 100 - 150k(not a travel show for multi-millionaires, IOW) and wants to take a decent golf trip...every week focus on a different region of the country.

Bring back Academy live and the Academy, focus on instructors not in the top 10, but instructors from different areas of the country that you could actually get a lesson from

IMO,

Monday should be instruction and previous week replays

Tuesday should be Alternate news (mini tours & college); Travel Show; and New & Improved 19th hole show

Wednesday should be PGA Tour classic and a Pre-Tournament type show

Throw in some special shows, maybe an "Outside the Lines" type show and I believe you would have a captivating channel.

Okay, what's the call on tonight's show? I for one enjoyed it. I even felt out of breath watching them run from challenge to challenge. Ashley Davis has quite the legs on her - she just took off leaving every one else in the dust.

I realize that those who only want to watch serious golf may not appreciate this series at first, but I bet you watched (and enjoyed) Caddyshack and that's not exactly "real golf". :swoon2:

Anyway, I watched, laughed and cheered. And then I chatted with both Ashley and Ashleigh and got their reaction to the first show. Of course, I caught them partying - these girls know how to have a good time, both watching the show in neighbourhood bars - haha!

These chicks are cool. They love life and you can really see it and hear it in their voices. How can that not be infectious?

every year the Golf Channel seems to dummy-down to what every other channel has become (B.S. reality programming). yes, i could turn the channel if i don't like it, but the content has changed so much from it's first few years - i just wish they'd get rid of the fluff, or as someone said earlier, show some mini-tour guys/gals trying for a shot at the top. enough of the big brother/big sister/big whatever shows with the forced drama and cat fights.

I like these shows. The NC guys are hilarious. I couldn't help but laugh when the girls saw Arnold Palmer. Their reaction was funny. I hope these two teams stay. The most entertaining ones, IMO.

The one thing I hate is that the girls don't have nicknames that they call each other. I can't tell who's who, haha.

These kind of shows are a great waste of time.

Also, if anything, Highway 18 is like Bullrun(hosted by Goldberg) crashed into some golf.

I actually enjoyed the show also. Some of them are too over the top, but I appreciate the fact that there is a golf related alternative to watch. Honestly reading a lot of the posts about BB and other show, I have to wonder what people want. There is only so much golf to go around. I would say be thankful that there is a golf channel. My only complaint would be the infomercials. At least show old tournaments.

Back to the topic, I think this show has potential. Loved the guy that topped both tee shots on the challenge hole at TPC and said 'my legs are rubber' Also the dynamic of father and son. The son acts like his best buddy couldn't make the challenge and got stuck with his dad.

I was thinking about adding the Golf channel, because I hate missing Thursday and Friday coverage, and Id like to see more golf from around the world.

After reading this thread I won't bother now.

I hate the MTV business model of removing their main content and replacing it with 'reality' type programming. Does MTV even have music videos any more?

I would rather watch grass grow than a reality show or game show themed around golf.

One potential subscription lost.

Let's step back and think about this a second. You are not going to subscribe to the golf channel because they have one hour out of 168 a week that contains a show you do not desire to watch? My goodness if this thinking prevailed, no one would watch any channel.

Relax and enjoy it, it is supposed to be entertainment after all. If you cannot enjoy it, change the channel, I am sure there is an episode of Law & Order on some channel.

I agree, I actually laughed out loud when the one guy topped two off the tee and was wheezing, "I got no legs!" after running so much. He reminded me of Forrest Gump, "You aint got no legs Captain Dan!" (by the way, as a fan of the movie Forrest Gump, I like to use this line when someone leaves put short.)

I watched it last night and thought it was pretty good. Seeing those guys/gals running around trying to make par was hilarious. 3 tries to make par? I'll watch it again. There's really nothing good on TV these days.

As far as other programming? I wish they'd show some more old school people in past tournies. Would love to see Hogan, Snead, Nicklaus, Palmer play back in the day.

The show was OK. It was basically a take on The Amazing Race with a golf angle and a much lower budget. The problem with these shows is the producing is not really that good. Hard to do on a tight budget that TGC probably has for the show.

I personally like the Quest for the Card reality a lot more. It shows how difficult it really is to make it on any professional tour. That is a lot more interesting to me.

I watched it for 1st time last night, it was ok show. I've seen worse shows from TGC. Give them credit for trying to come up with new shows. It's tough nowdays.

If you don't like that show, why not use that remote in your hand to watch something else. Plenty other shows to watch.

I actually thought it was pretty entertaining. And for the record, I think that's strictly what the aim is for this show....entertainment. I know alot of people complained about the Big Break, saying that the golf wasn't good enough and the people competing weren't playing good enough to make it on the tours that they're trying to win exemptions for. With this show, there's just cash and prizes on the line, no spots in tournaments or anything. So here, rather than watch it and focus on who's got the most game, you can just enjoy it and see who can get through these things the fastest. Won't say it's the greatest show I've ever seen, but I give it the thumbs up and will continue to watch the new episodes.

:D I will not watch this junk, and I am guessing that most members of this board (who BTW are the CORE viewers of the GC) will not be tuning in either.

Someone at the GC needs to get some perspective and listen to what the core GC audience has been saying loudly and clearly. They are seemingly going further downhill every season. :swoon2:

It should not be that tought to figure out :clapping: what shows the core audience wants to see when they tune into the GOLF chennel. Good grief!

I watched it and thought it was absolutely horrible. It was like watching a highlights show about a highlight show. No continuity, no backstory, no interest. I hate all shows like The Amazing Race and Survivor so I guess it is no surprise I hate this and the Big break and all their ilk that shows up now on TGC. Ah, for the halcyon days of Academy Live and The Golf Channel Classics.

I think Playing Lessons With a Pro is the best series they have right now and would love seeing more episodes of that show. It wouldn't even need to be a famous pro. If the took out a Nationwide player, ranked amateur, or a club pro I'd still watch.

I also wished they would replay some classic 4th rounds of tournaments in the past.

Quite agree w/above post. I love to "tune in" the Golf Channel to learn, improve my game & see good amateurs & professionals play (see if I can pick up game management thoughts & tips, u know?), not to be "entertained" w/silly reality shows (that should be reserved for regular network or the rest of the cable channels!).

It wasn't that bad. All of you people seem to fear change. OH NO SOMETHING NEW. Who cares. I know most of you watched it anyways.

I kind of dig the format. Although the commercial breaks every 8 minutes really threw the whole thing off. Luckily they were short breaks. (On that note, I'm sick of seeing the same commercials on TGC. RBS, we get it. Viagra's going to set my soul on fire apparently.) Was kind of nice seeing Arnie show up and do the first show with them.

Who else got all of the trivia questions right and was screaming at them. I was standing there going..HOYLAKE...YOU IDIOTS IT'S HOYLAKE..TONY JACKLIN...TOOONNYYY JAAACKLINNNNNN...APPOOLLLOOOO 14!!!!!!

I'm truly amazed each and every day I'm on this board at the amount of negativity towards....um, what can I *&^% about now. I will continue and watch this show to try and support the Golf channel so I don't have to watch another Hammer infomercial again. I applaud what they are trying to do with their programming on most facets. I'm glad I don't have some of you working for me. I already have a couple of you that no matter what job they're on, it's not the job they want. They want the other crews job, but if they had it; they'd want yet another one.
