Update to my backyard green/bunker/teebox

Friendly 4 month bump for any newcomers.

Everything is still rocking good out back. No weird settling or anything with the green, no leaks with the pond, garden auto feed system works great... no complaints. I installed a new sliding glass door out to the backyard, along with new lighting for the deck, green, and new door. I will snap some pics of it after we get the stucco patched back up.

Deck is going to need a new coat of sealer next spring, and I might relocate a single bush that has gotten pretty big to make room for more tomato/chile/corn plants next year. Other than that it's all definitely staying the same. Been enjoying evening putting sessions all year and have been rolling the rock pretty solidly on the course.

I just found this thread after a few years of surfing wrx and this was an exercise in the art of perfection. You sir, are a golf artisan. Absolutely fantastic work and I can only dream about having something 1/2 as nice of my own at some point. Thank you for sharing this with everyone! Truly inspirational.

Damn fellas! I'm pretty envious of some of these putting greens. I would love to put a putting green. I just recently did a full cage driving range setup, I love it, I just wish I had a GC2!

 

 

Only pic I have right now. The other side behind the camera is all dirt and s***. I was really hoping to finish that area and make a putting green with some artificial grass but we'll see what the warden has to say about that, haha.

Can we get a wide angle picture of the entire yard? Maybe from elevation? It is awesome. Would love to have a yard half as nice. Well done.

I'll post some updated pics after spring cleanup is totally done, which will be by the end of the month. Will try to remember to hop up on the roof and snag ya a birds-eye from up there.

Been pretty solid so far this year. Had a rough stretch putting for awhile there late last year and was 3 jacking like never before... went 4 rounds in a row where I had never putted so poorly... like I mean not even hitting the hole from 3 feet poorly. Had to do a semi reboot and go back to the OG 2-ball, spent a few hours out back with the camera and finally figured out what was going on. Tweaked the grip a bit and moved the ball position an inch and was able to finally get the ball starting on line consistently again... after that it didn't take much practice to get the old touch to return.

Chipping/pitching/bunkers have all been better than ever lately. I've definitely never chipped in so frequently before... almost every round it seems like these days. Just a few weeks ago I shot a 2 under 70 with 5 birdies on the back and 2 chip ins, which felt pretty awesome for this early in the season. I think this is going to be a good year.

Cripes, I realized today that I forgot to post pics after the spring cleanup, so I busted out the dusty ol' camera and snapped a few out back. Everything is pretty much the same except for the plants trying to take over, haha.

 

I made some mini flags and set up a 9 hole putting course for the annual Whitmore Memorial Tourney we've been doing for Ben's birthday over the past 3 years (this year it actually fell ON his bday, July 18). After last year being near triple digits for temp, I added a big shade sail with some more misters to try and keep more people cool. I also set up a croquet course for it since that was one of me and Ben's favorite games.

 

It was a great time this year and we had the biggest turn-out yet, 6 teams (4 foursomes and 2 fivesomes) with almost 50 people total showing up for the after festivities here at the newly remodeled house.

 

My team was defending our title from last year, with Ben's Sister and Daughter on board along with my good buddy Chris in scramble format down at the UNM South Championship Course. After a ho-hum bogey-free 3-under front, I got pretty hot with my irons and Chris got RED HOT with his putter. We went -5 on the back to end up in a tie with Team Colorado (Ben's Aunt, Uncle, and 2 Cousins) at -8. A (at this point seemingly routine) downhill 12 footer that Chris canned before I even got a try on the par 5 19th hole secured our repeat as Team Colorado lipped birdie twice from 15-16 feet.

 

It was definitely one of the best times I've had in a really long while.

Thank you. This project is definitely one of my all time favs. I did a full-house gut and remodel last year and it still comes in a distant second to the backyard. With things warming up again here lately it's just about time to do the full spring cleanup and get it ready for what will hopefully be another great one golf-wise.
