Jeans on the Golf Course - Yay or Nay?

Do not wear jeans on the course wear them many other places just not there. Not comfortable for me.

I would never feel comfortable wearing jeans on a golf course it is as simple as that, I've been bought up that way and I feel that jeans have their place but that place does not include the golf course!

Funny, I never thought of myself as a snob or an elitist, but I guess I would qualify based on some of the responses here. From the time I was old enough to know better, I've never worn jeans on the course. Further, I do tend to look down upon anyone who does. Even further, I'm somewhat embarrassed if one of my friends shows up to the course wearing jeans and expecting to golf in them.

 

This from a middle-class golfer who would never think of joining a private club because of the "stuffiness" I've always felt when visiting them.

 

But as some have said, I've got plaid pants that could blind someone and I'm perfectly fine wearing them, just not jeans. Maybe I should lighten up a little............

I don't even own a pair of jeans but thats because I don't think jeans are very comfortable.

 

Only thing worse than jeans on the golf course would be jorts (jean shorts)

Haha, I wear both. Nothing wrong with jorts, I wore them in a club champs semi final last weekend.

How about rain pants for all of those that say no athletic pants? They look similar yet I bet most of the ppl that say no athletic pants own or would approve of someone wearing rain pants, even not in the rain. Rule are rules if that is what the club requires but for people to look down on someone for playing respectfully in what they want to wear is ridiculous to me. Its more about the attitude of the player and how they treat fellow players to me than the dress of the player.

When I was starting golf, I read where Arnold Palmer discussed the rudeness of wearing a hat in the dining room. I've made it a point to never violate that rule. Manners never go out of style.

 

No jeans at the golf course - and my kids don't come to the range unless their shirt has a collar.

I work at a course, and this rule has never made sense to me. A pair of jeans is the same price if not more then a pair of slacks. It looks tackie but totally up to the player. I loose respect for the members that come talk to me about letting players play with jeans on our course.

I learned to take my hat off in all buildings. Playing AJGA tournaments, they make you take your hat off when you are inside and I have done it ever since...

I personally won't wear jeans on the golf course; however, I think it's up to the individual club/course to determine its own rules. If jeans are allowed on a particular course, so be it. The club can set the own rules, the players choose where they want to play...

My personal opinion on the topic is that jeans are acceptable. I don't quite understand why they are considered a second class citizen in the wardrobe world. This coming from a golf culture that allows visors, vests, plaid pants/shorts, neon colors, saddle shoes, etc...... you can't honestly tell me that jeans look any more stupid or less 'refined'.

John Daley is on the Golf Channel right now, I don't know if it's a player lesson or what, but he is on the golf course, talking to the camera as he plays his shots..

He has a black collared shirt and Blue Jeans..yep Blue Jeans..........

 

To be honest, he looks a hell of alot better with those Blue Jeans on than he looked today in the Italian open wearing the checkered clown pants......

If a person feels like jeans are tacky, then he shouldn't wear them. But tell me this, which is more tacky a golfer wearing jeans, or a golfer wearing a polo shirt that looks like a walking billboard for, say "Nike"...just as an example?

I won't be wearing jeans on the course anytime soon. I wear them all week to work, so I enjoy getting my legs out for some sun on the weekends.

it all depends on the course that i am playing. if i am playing my home course i'll go in jeans to practice, but if i am playing a full round with intent to meet a playing partner or be paired up i will wear nicer slacks.

 

if i am not at my home course i almost always (95% of the time) wear nice slacks.

I've seen some courses allow jeans recently where a few years ago, they didn't. I'm sure it's related to the economy. There's only one local course I'd be comfortable wearing jeans because I frequently see others there wearing them. And only in the middle of winter for me, when it's really cold.

I have played in jeans before. I was on a military course (it was ok). The reason was that there was snow on the ground and it was freezing out, not only that, I was the only one out there on the course. As per the bright colors I love them and they look better on some them others. They looking better on some would be me (oooooo yeah) :tongue: Almost every thing I wear is golf related or could be consider golf clothing except the uniforms.

What a bunch of golf snobs and snobs are the absolute worst part of golf, IMO. I'm all for politeness and courtesy, but who the hell cares what someone else's pant material is. Blue cotton chinos good, blue cotton denim bad, I don't get it. I play golf to spend time with friends and enjoy myself. I don't golf to impress you with my pink slacks and white belt. It shouldn't affect you in the least - unless you want it to.
