How do you walk 18?

Zlim

Recommended Posts

I have walked up to 90 holes in a day. Every monday during the fall and spring I play from sun-up to sundown. I normally get around 3-4 rounds in, most often 63 holes.

The trick is to change pairs of golf shoes every 18 (Bite and Ecco are my choices for comfort).

The other trick is to trade between carrying and push cart every 18 holes.

The other trick is to have a very understanding supportive wife.

Man that's a ton of golf! I envy you!

Why trade between carrying and pushing though?

I walked for years carrying my bag, and now my 3 wheel push cart (Sun Mountain) is way easier than carrying anything. It's to the point where I don't even like carrying my clubs from the garage to the car trunk!

Just wondering...

I walk all the time, but that's usually only for 9 holes. If I'm playing 18 I end up taking a cart because it's always in some tournament or with a group of guys who'd much rather ride than walk.

Yesterday I walked 18 for the first time in years. I had the round of my life going through 13, but then fatigue started to set in and the wheels slowly came off. Still not a bad round, but I wonder how much of a difference a cart would have made.

My course is set among large sand dunes and thusly, pushing the cart up hills is a necessary part. I switch in order to keep certain muscles from becoming unduly taxed. The cart is better on flat and downhill, but I would much rather carry the bag on uphill stretches.
If the course was relatively flat I would cart it all the time.

I have been carrying my bag all my life. But last Sunday at one of those suburban southwest Denver courses where they seem to set up the course to encourage people to spend extra for an electric cart, I carried my bag and like someone else here I was cooking along until about the 15th and blew up and am certain the fatigue was a big factor. So I bought a Sun Mountain cart from a client and used it today. What a difference. Part of being in the mid 60's. I intend to still carry for nine.

I walk when it makes sense for me to do so.

I typically don't walk when it's in the mid nineties. I also don't walk if I'm having knee and foot problems. Currently my left knee is giving me fits. I've been riding most of my rounds lately.

When I walk, I use my Clicgear 2.0 every time. It is a super cart that really works wonderfully for me.

42 years old. Used to carry but recently I purchased a cheap cart and love it. It isn't so much about wearing out as it is avoiding muscle spasms in my back and my neck hurting. I've noticed that at the end of a round, my back feels much better and I'm able to follow through much cleaner on my swings.

47 yrs old.....walk & carry 80-90% of the rounds.....personally don't care what others do...whether they carry, use a cart, or ride...I play in a group of 20+ players where the majority ride...many of them live on or near the course and have their own customized carts...

One of the guys I play regularily with is 64 yrs old....walks and carries as well....he has maintained between a 3.0 and 6.0 Index for years playing a 6800+yard course....(it really plays longer because tee shots don't roll much)....he sets a high bar...I really admire his attitude and that he has kept himself in good shape......he is an absolute riot to play with....witty as hell....he is talking about moving up to the 6390 yard tees next year (he'll be 65)....was won our Senior CC many times as well....

I'm 59 and play twice a week. So far in 2009 I've played about 45 rounds and walked everyone but two times I've ridden. I use a newer design golf cart, it's the Racr Upright Caddy. I bought mine on eBay from the original company in Fort Myers, Fl about 4 months ago for $159 delivered, they are now being sold by several online and eBay dealers. It's unique because your bag sits upright, which keeps your clubs from laying on each other and your towel dragging on the ground.

Everytime I go out to the course I get one or two players ask me where to buy one. Just last week I played with a fellow who six weeks earlier asked me about the cart, guess what, he had purchased one. Since my bag is a black & yellow Cobra, the candy apple red color didn't quite go, so I masked all the black and spray painted the cart silver. It came out really nice.

That cart looks awesome, thanks for the heads up! I'm definitely going to look into getting one of those.

I'm 27 and never really thought about anything but carrying my bag. Two years ago I injured my foot and developed arthritis in the joint of my right big toe. It has been getting progressively worse, and now I am to the point where I am seriously considering buying a push cart for next season. I am still on the fence, I feel that I am still young enough where I should be able to hoof it with my bag on my back, and then there's the part of me that is hobbling off of the 18th green wishing I would have bought the stupid push cart. \

Chances are I'll be pushing next spring when the snow clears.

Borrow or rent one and try it out before committing to purchase one. I think once you demo one, the decision will be clear. A good friend of mine was a committed carrier of his golf bag. One round we were leaving from my house. I have a Sun Mountain Pushcart, and a Eagle Compac remote controlled electric. I was using the electric one, and we threw the Sun Mountain in the car for him to demo.

Long story short, he never carried again. He went out the next day and bought a ClicGear.

I went from carrying, to pulling, to pushing to remoting. I still keep the Pushcart around for guests and sloppy winter rounds.

A good pushcart allows you to keep with you your entire bag all full of the stuff, because the weight and bulk, rarely matter.

At my age, (68) and considering the number of rounds I play each year, (75+) I use the Sun Mountain Speed Cart. But, I strongly feel that any golfer in good health, under 60 years old, should carry. :clapping: It's the way golf was meant to be played. (Wish I could still do it) I love watching the youngsters carrying their bags. I play often with my Grand-Son, (11) and he looks at my push cart as if it is something from outer space. LOL Riding carts?...........They should be banned with the exception of players with physical/medical impairments.

I carried my bag for my whole life until 2 years ago when I bought a pull cart ($40). My shoulders and swing have been thanking me ever since. I'm in my mid-20's and have been having muscle tissue problems on my left shoulder blade for about 5 years now. Just taking precautions so I can play this game for the rest of my life. Also like one member said, you can carry a bunch of food and drinks without having to worry about it bogging you down.
