Drinking and Golf

texas-ex

Recommended Posts

I like to start the front 9 by drinking out of a 1/2 gallon jug of Popov Vodka as I drive from hole to hole. By the 5th, I enjoy

using my driver as a lance which I use to joust with other golfers coming toward me on the cart path.

The initial euphoria and easy, loose draw gradually progresses into a bold block by the turn at which time I have a lunch consisting

of 3 hot dogs and 4 beers.

At this stage I like to walk rather than drive and occasionally wander to the wrong tee box and sometimes accidently tee off from

a green or two. I like to use a split grip since holding on to the club becomes an issue in my follow through.

My round typically ends on the 16th with a well earned snifter (dixie cup) of XO Premier Cru after which I feature a tee shot

into ground, followed by uncontrollable weeping and my collapse in the water hazard.

When I get to play on Friday afternoons, which is not that often, I'll drink, usually a couple per side. On Saturday mornings, when I get to play, which is not that often, I usaully wait for the E-9, but if my playing partners start on the back nine....well, I'm not one to let a friend drink alone!

I've been in some E-9's where it's gotten crazy....years ago, a guy that we play with used to drink heavily & he left a minature bottle on the green on every hole. He said he was playing Hantzel & Grettle golf...in case he got lost he could find his way back in. The guys in the back group dutifully picked up every last one of them. This same guy quit drinking years ago & quipped on a number of occasions that there were places on the back nine that he was sure he'd never seen before! There are a million more stories about this guy, there was a trip to Las Vegas where he spent the round searching in the desert for balls. He said he wasn't worried about the snakes because he's a lawyer & they have professional courtesy. At the end of the round, he'd found so many balls that they could barely get his bag off the cart.

I'm surprised to find such a discussion taking place on what I thought was a serious golf site. I never defile my temple with alcohol or any other intoxicating substance.

Moreover, even if I was such a user of substances, TexasEx, I certainly would never do so while playing the game that we all revere so highly. I take the game very seriously. In my opinion, it is a form of sacrilege to ingest intoxicating substances on the golf course that may interfere with my performance. Also, I prefer not to associate with so-called "golfer" who believe such behavior is appropriate.

I have no problem with drinking but at the same time can't help but wonder how you guys are getting home after the rounds. I hope you've got a ride.

Anyone that's ok with getting behind the wheel after they "hit beer pretty heavy" is a piece of **** in my opinion. It's guys like you that live through the accident and kill the family of four they hit."I usually am tanked by the end of the round"- Hope your a** lives on the course and you're riding home in your cart.

You preach against drinking and driving...

So why do you imply driving a golf cart drunk is OK?

Considering that I live right off of the 17th hole, I usually stumble home sans car, or alternatively, one of the wonderful boys in the cart barn will sometimes offer me a lift in one of the buggies.

I am ashamed that alcohol is even sold in this land. It should be outlawed with guns and tobacco just like drugs are. Nothing good comes of it. :black eye:

Aww, come on. Who doesn't enjoy a bourbon neat with a side of HK USP .45? :anti-american:

Without it, I would not have been able to bag the 33 yr old asian two weekends ago. More importantly, I like to enjoy a round of beers while we ride around. It's relaxing time for me, and a brew or two helps that cause.

I prefer water/gatorade at about a 4 to 1 ratio. I would also suggest something simple to snack on like bananas or granola. Keeping your body right will improve your performance and ultimately help lower your scores :friends: .

Your body is a temple for sure.

Reminds me of a time at Brock Park in Houston.

Playing with a HPD Officer friend of mine, we were having a beer and cruzing down the fairway, when several gang dudes jumped out of the trees and started toward us.

My friend pulled his off duty piece out of the bag, showed it to the guys and asked, Have yall seen my tee shot ?

They dove back into the woods like the vermon they were.

Very cool, See firearms, golf and beer do go together :friends:

How does that go with your daily 5mg Cialis? :uhm:

Our buddy Stage1350,

Can swing the stiffest of shafts, drink loads of beer and still have time to get a lap dance from a H-Town Dancer while shooting a smooth 75.

True.

I have no problem sharing a beer with friends but I do it responsibly. I had a close friend killed by a drunk driver, I don't make light of drinking alcohol. I don't condemn it, many chose to do it responsibly and take effort in not endangering others lives. If you chose to drink yourself into a slumber on the golf course that is your choice, I don't understand why anyone would pay a green fee to go out and get drunk on the course, but that is your business. It becomes my business when you decide to get behind the wheel in that condition. And yes I am the one that will call the sheriff with your plate number if I see it take place. A few alcohol related statistics for you.

This is the year my friend was killed so I will use these numbers.

· In 2006, there were 13,470 fatalities in crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver (BAC of .08 or higher) – 32 percent of total traffic fatalities for the year..

· The 13,470 fatalities in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes during 2006 represent an average of one alcohol-impaired-driving fatality every 39 minutes.

· So far this year May 20, 2009 at 3:00pm 4970 people have been killed in alcohol related accidents :

· Average cost associated with a first time DUI conviction: $14,660.00 This may vary by City and state. This is for an uncontested plea. It includes basic legal fees, court cost, abuse classes fees, towing bills, license fee and reinstatement and high risk insurance mandatory in most states. Many employer’s have implemented personal conduct requirements in company policies that allow for immediate dismissal on a DUI conviction, so increased loss of wages will add to the totals.

This is a average assessment, cost associated with a DUI conviction can be and often are much higher. Attorney fees alone in a contested DUI arrest are often equal or greater than cost associated with an uncontested plea.

So if you are not worried about endangering yourself and others consider the impact drinking and driving can have on your personal financial situation.

I miss Splendors. Though St. James was okay too. Houston strip clubs were nice. They agreed with me more than parties in Virginia Beach. It took two days to clean the puke off the side of the truck. AND IT WASN'T EVEN MY TRUCK! :I still owe the Old Guy a car wash:
