Wonderful putter....love the neck...Santa Fe is by ar my fav neck...the 5 point crown is a rare one...SC started with 3 and then quickly to 7....5 points "is used usually when i dont have room for 7" per Scotty.

It's a good question. The neck is simply the way the shaft is attached to the putter's body. Sometimes the neck is simply milled out of the same block as the putter, other times it is welded. You can read more about the necks scotty uses here:

However, welding itself is a craft when done by hand. A proper weld joins two materials by partially melting them and adding an eaisily molten metal between the two. This sounds easy, but requires a steady hand. You can see in the weld above that the material is even in thickness all the way around and weld "puddle" of molten material is added evenly all the way around.

 

Many poorer craftsmen simply weld things together sloppily and then grind things down to look good. However, no grinding was done on the neck of this putter and for good reason. The person who welded this neck should be VERY proud of their work.

 

It's one of those things in life where you've got to try it to truly appreciate what's required to be very good at it. ;)

There are very few people that work on these 009s and other tour customs. I have info from a person that goes to the show often and goes on the floor there....only 3-4 guys are working on these doing diffrent tasks, and Scotty is one of them....a 009 or other CT putter at the minimum will have to pass Scottys eyes to leave, if not worked on by him...hence a reason a order takes so long, my 009 went in the second week of January, I got it 4 months later.

Thanks for compliments guys - she turned out really nice! My newport 009 turned out really nice also. Very simple, understated and 1 degree flat.
