i5's... but i still punch myself when i remember selling my s58's...
So heres the current history over the past 2 years
G10
S58
i5(when I made the above post 5 months ago)
s59
s58
G15
S57

now I own G15 3-6 with AWTX, and just got S57 3-PW X100. All the rest our gone :(

For the profile I would say S57 is the easiest to hit and the best iron I have ever played. The S57 is the best fit for my game currently and I love the look at address.

I know this is an old post, but i want to reply I have owned several sets of Pings.
Zing
Zing2
ISI
I3 Blades
I5
Ping Rapture J Spec with Aldila Proto 85

I am currently playing the Rapture J Specs. It's only been a few weeks and I like them, but I loved my I5's with UST V295 from Ping WRX.

After 8 months, the Ping Rapture J Specs are without a doubt, THE BEST IRONS, EVER!!!! I have lowered my handicap from a 16 to a 12. I know that's not like most others on here, but I am very happy!

Only true Ping afficianadoes will understand this. I have a set of Eye2 +no+'s that have only been played twice (once by me). There have been many attempts to improve on greatness, I'm not sure anyone has. I'm going to get them re-shafted and put them in the bag.

WOW .... I do know of what you speak ... NICE !!!!

Honorable mention for me to the Eye2
ISI-Ks ... LOVED those

yes, Eye 2/+ with a modern shaft cannot be beat for the recreational golfer. One of the few sets that the wedges are as good as the irons, you can have a smooth transition all the way to lob wedge. And by smooth transition I mean the 3/4 iron is as easy to hit as the wedges. Just fantastic top to bottom, and very affordable. Fantastic club.

Curious what shaft you are going to use with your EYE 2 +. Recently got G20s w/CFS S and am thinking of reshafting the EYE 2 as well...

For me it's the Zing2 by a pretty good margin. The G15s would be next in line. I've had many sets of PING irons and always go back to the Zing2 irons. From the four iron to the sand wedge they are all money for me. I would recommend them to any golfer starting out in the game. They launch the ball with ease and go straight.

For me it's got to be my EYE 2+. I loved my s56 but that's when business was good and I was working less. Just don't have the time to keep the swing up. Had the i15 also. Wasn't that impressed. They were def longer though.

I've always had my EYE 2 and then some other set of players irons. Would always game the EYE 2's when it came to vacations, scrambles, shambles, or booze rounds when I knew the forgiveness would be needed for lack of coordination.

Over the past months I've talked to numerous people inside PING for shaft and warranty info and fitting or refinish ?'s. after giving up on all players irons, when asked about upgrading within the I-series from the EYE 2+ for forgiveness purposes i5, i10 etc. Most of them said in terms of forgiveness stay with the EYE 2 unless moving to i20 or anything in the G series.

I did hit the G20 in a fitting for lie purpose when I was on the top of my game last year. Although I found them hard to look down at I peppered the trampoline target out at 190 with the 7 iron. Looking back I should have saved the $$$$ and went that route. Might have to give those G25 a shot in the spring.

Eye 2s have to be at the top of the stack, just because they were so revolutionary. Either the stainless steel or the BeCu versions go down (IMO) as perhaps the top iron set of all time, not just from Ping.

That said, Ping has put out some great clubs even after the Eye 2s. The ISI in BeCu is a favorite of mine (I own a set.) I've always thought that the ISI and the Zing 2 were the most forgiving irons I've ever played. Particularly the Zing 2s -- if you can't hit good shots with those, it's not the club! :-)

Believe the best two player's clubs from Ping were the i3 Blade and the i5. Just brilliant.

Still have my two 'old' favorites: ISI BeNi, and i3 Blades. Modern favorite title has to go to my i20s. They de-throned my S57s for that title.

This thread is threatening to cost me a lot of money. I'm currently playing i20s that I bought a couple of months ago, and I am really happy with them. My distance hasn't increased but my accuracy, especially with the shorter irons, is way better. However, I've suddenly come over all nostalgic reading this thread, and am seriously considering having my Eye 2s reshafted. I've got the 2 to SW, but stopped using them a few years back because the shafts were too stiff, but the clubhead is an alltime classic and I might just bite the bullet, and have a super backup set of clubs.

Beginning in 1984 i have owned the following Ping irons. In no particualr order, Eye 2 (twice), ISI-K, Zing, Zing2, S58, S59, S59 Tour, I10, I20, G10, Eye 2+. I am going back to the Eye 2+, Blue Dot, JZ stiff. The sole grind and lofts are perfect for me. That said, I shot +2 yesterday, including two three putts, using my Nike VR split cavities.

Insanity? Perhaps, but Pings always perform and at age 65, time is not on my side.

I've only played five different models, but tried most of the i and s series.
My favorites in order of preference are:

- i5
- S58
- i3 blade

IMHO, its surprising that since the i5, Ping does not seem to have nailed it with the i series.

Have a great game

I've been a Pinger for 22 years and I won't swap to another brand ever.

Ping have customer service and custom fit sewn up. Just got rid of the KBS shafts and installed AWT's into my S56's. Night and day. KBS and my swing just doesn't gel at all.

I would rate i5 as one of the best if not best (not used i20) and i10 as the worst. Loved my 59's and also my current 56's. Apart from 2 Adams hybrids I am all Ping!

Looks - s59tour
Playability - i3+blade
FoHistorgiveness - Gseries
Historical significance - eye2
My version is:
Looks - S56 (current set and 0.7 HCP)
Playability - ISI (Played these from 1997-2011 HCP went from a 10 down to a 2)
Forgiveness - Zing (Ping will even confirm this is the most forgiving Ping ever)
Historical significance - eye2 (Always wanted a set but back then, I was a 15 HCP and hooked the hell out of them)

I have a good friend who plays to about a 6 that bought a set of Eye 2s in 1989 and still uses them with the original shaft. He demos new clubs every year and reports when he finds a set that are actually better and not just marketing hype, he'll consider switching.

I personally think the I3+ blade was their best model and regret selling mine.
