The beryllium copper Eye 2 was Ping's magnum opus.

I've got a set in the cupboard that will never be sold. Find a nicely aged set that haven't been dunked in Brasso by some muppet and you've got some bona fide classics.

as title suggests, wondering which set has led the pack?

BeCu Eye 2s. I like them much better than the +s, despite the weaker lofts.

I don't think it's fair for me to vote seeing how my i15's are the first set of Pings I have ever owned! But they are fantastic! Everything you could want in an iron. They are accurate enough for the good days and forgiving enough for the bad days. I have never played a better all around iron before, and trust me, like many of you, I have played nearly every irons set out there!! I liked them so much I immediately went to an all Ping bag! Great Stuff!

Eye2+ or plus-no-plus. I have both sets and could put them in the bag anytime and go out and shoot a decent round. Would just have to club up due to loft difference over today's irons but they are just as forgiving.

If Pings were any good, there would be more winners playing Pings on the PGA. Callaway irons rule the roost.

Picking the beryllium Eye 2 as the answer to the OP's question was a doddle.

A much harder proposition is trying to come up with a reason to justify this utterly pointless post. Aside from contributing precisely nothing to the thread, it's patently duff info.

i3+ (no blades) with z-z65 shafts for this mid-handicapper. Forgiving enough when I'm not at my best and able to hit "all the shots" (well, at least all the shots I have) when I'm on. Hit it low, hit it high, hit a hook around a tree ... I can't fade the ball very well, its either straight or a horrific slice (but I think that's the "indian not the arrow" as they say).

I hear this i5 talk constantly, but can't comment as I've never played them.

Dont get me wrong my course is a Ping course, but am I the only one who thinks Ping irons are repulsive? I just cant get used to the hideous look of their irons. Now the i15 driver thru hybrid are just sexy.

It must the the "get in the hole" guy. You're the man.
Anyways - it has to be the Eye2 in whatever guise. Anything else in the PIng range is transient at best compared to the longevity and mass appeal of the Eye2.

yes, Eye 2/+ with a modern shaft cannot be beat for the recreational golfer. One of the few sets that the wedges are as good as the irons, you can have a smooth transition all the way to lob wedge. And by smooth transition I mean the 3/4 iron is as easy to hit as the wedges. Just fantastic top to bottom, and very affordable. Fantastic club.
suavemilagro or anyone - I purchased a used set of eye2+'s because I like the lower bounce compared to the more current Ping offerings. I really picked up on your statement "with a modern shaft", I think my current eye2+ shaft is just a little too stiff for me. Which "modern shaft" would you recommend?

Thanks,
paul

This thread makes me laugh but in a good way. I play ping and have done so since i started playing golf three years ago when i was handed my grandfathers old set of zing irons w/ becu wedges plus tisi tec woods but thats not the point. The point is that you can ask five different ping guys and get five different answers for there favorite irons. Fans of ping find there niche in an iron line, and live and die by that line until they can no longer play it.

Another interesting thread would be to ask a scotty ho to pick his favorite putter and see how many times he weebles and woobles (kinda like the football lol).

1) Eye2 - S400
2) G15 - ZZ65
3) i3+ - ZZ65

I have owned them all - time will tell on the G15s but these are solidly in the bag for the foreseeable future. I do have a set of Eye2s (1-LW) just in case.

You could always try the JZ shaft - stiff or regular. I don't think it is available for new orders, but for a re-shaft, who knows? They apparently play a little softer to flex.

S57 with KBS are very good. Prior to that I hit the O size 3 with JZ stiff and I liked them as well.

I replaced my 15 year old Lynx Parallax with new i5's. I didn't keep them long. It was before I understood the custom port tech. Even though I liked Ping I keep thinking the port took away from a pure strike. I kick myself now for getting rid of them. I came back to Ping last year with some Eye +no+. Had them reshafted with PX satin 5.5. Just regripped with leather Gripmaster perforated. I plan on keeping these. My favorite Ping irons. (I also love my G5 hybrids)
