When I got back into golf in early 90's I had to have the eye 2+. Ordered a full set 1 iron thru Lw. Played those for years and just loved them. Eventually went to ping zing 2 and they were real performers. I eventually got away from ping as I developed this golf equipment addiction over the years. While visiting a Golfsmith about 5-6 years ago I picked up a full set of ISI K's. While I've had other sets these were always my go to set. Probably the only set I won't sell as I often use them as my winter clubs when I'm not playing and the swing is off. My current gamer set is the S56 with KBS. These are great sticks but not as forgiving as the other ping irons. Spent this winter kicking around the idea of getting into a set of the new G irons. From what I've read and from hitting them in a simulator I'm pretty sure the "G's" might be the best iron they've produced but I won't know unless I get a set. So for me I'd say the ISI K's are the best iron I've used from them.

The first set of irons I purchased on my own were Z-Model ( Zing Knockoffs ) and I loved them. I just put my 1-LW White BECU Eye 2+ (S300) irons in the bag for a round in the morning with some old friends!

Question for the Pingers out there. I also own G5's that just got re-shafted with x200's and I'm looking to get an older set of midsize Ping irons 3-PW/UW. In the running are I5's, I10's, I15's, I20, I25. I'm a sweeper generally and normally play "07 X-Forged irons. Which of these older sets would I most likely prefer from turf interaction standpoint? Which one has the least offset? Thanks

I believe the i10s, i20s, and i25s all have the least offset throughout the set. I have only played the 20s (nice) and have a set of 25s coming my way.

I also like you can refinish or even have ping refinish any of the older heads for like $15 a head. Because they were never chromed, you can make a set of eyes or zings look brand new today.

Yay for an old thread! It is the Anser putter. But this is about irons, so for me, the ISI s is the best iron Ping ever made. But (IMO) this iron would have never been built if it were not for the popularity of the eye2 and the mistakes of the Zings. Eye 2 has had to be the club with the most impact on modern golf, from weighting to grooves...

The Ping Zings are the clubs I own now and I believe they are the best irons I have ever hit. Love the square toe. Love the offset. Love the forgiveness. Love that there is no plastic on the club. I have no complaints about them at all.

I still play my i3's and have no plans to get rid of them any time soon. Absolutely love those things.

FWIW I also don't plan on retiring my Ally I putter that's been in my bag for close to 20 years.

  • 4 months later...

I'm relatively new to the Ping fold, but would say the G irons are pretty amazing clubs with great forgiveness and much improved site lines from earlier models. I would also say the ie1 and i200s are pretty terrific irons in both performance and looks. And although my game probably won't allow their use the i blades are terrific looking too. Guess I really like where Ping is headed these days.
