Oh wow! The Zings are my absolute favorites. Nothing hits like them. They are the only clubs aside from my putter I refuse to replace.

While I wouldn't say that they are the best Ping's ever....this post reminded me of when I first hit the original K-1.

 

As much as you think the Eye 2's changed the landscape...the K-1's did also.

 

The first cavity back, perimeter weighted iron with offset that helped EVERYBODY play better golf.

 

This, when Acushnet had introduced the AC 108 that had the tungsten weights (that kept getting lost).

 

By today's standards, the K-1's are pretty barbaric, but...when you hit them for the first time....wowzer!

I have has several sets of PING irons and I would have to say the S55 are the best. I would like to try the i200’s though.

I3 + blades feel so crisp and make a nice crack sound. Always enjoy hitting them. Perfect size as well.

Ha ha probably right, still got my k3 rails which still perform very well (from 81). I just remember everyone has a set of eye2s and still today there's a dozen guys at my club still using them.....boy they've saved some money over the years

I have a set of S55s coming in today or tomorrow. Loved all the content in this thread. Can't wait to hit mine, I'll keep you guys updated how they compare to my current irons I have lying around.

Another vote for the Eye 2. It might fall short of today's GI irons (MIGHT), but for it's period and its staying power, I don't know that any other iron can compare. If you regularly play with random people and public courses like I do, think back over the last few years and name one iron you have seen in more bags than the Eye 2. I see them all the time, and from some good golfers. Maybe it's just me.

 

An analogy would be the old: if you put Jim Thorpe on the Cowboys today he wouldn't make the team. If you ask 100 people who was a better football player, Jim Thorpe or the Cowboys' current 3rd string running back, 100 people would say Thorpe.

Eye 2+ irons with an original Eye 2 57 degree sand wedge all with ZZ Lite shafts are tough to beat imo...

Ran the becu ISI for over a decade those were my faves.

 

Eye2 were always legendary.

 

I hit the S59 best and loved my set. Wish I never sold them.

Eye 2s because they are iconic, and S55 because they are the best irons Ping has ever made. Over the years I’ve had, Eye2, Eye 2+, Zing 2, ISI, ISI nickel, i25, S55 & i(E7) irons. Still own the eye 2+ and the S55. I can’t part with my Eye2 irons they come out for a game a few times a year just for a bit of fun.

s55 hard to beat .. but

 

I've been screwing around with a w2 becu isi and a s3 Zing2 becu .. both are dead solid

 

(I used to play ISI steel)

 

Not sure why so many love the ISI but not the Zing 2 ???? It's basically an oversized version of the ISI

 

I'd also like to say I loved s58's and the Rapture J specs.

 

I'm considering buying and testing an eye2 + no + SW and the reviews are 1's or 10's. But want a becu 53*

for me personally I would say Ping i e1 or the S58, If it goes by number of players putting them into play I would say it's a toss up between the S55 and the Ping eye2 irons

S55 for me, I play them better than G25 or G irons, don't know how that's possible but I'm liking it.

 

Have been tempted to change to iBlades but not an issue if I don't

Grew up playing ping eye 2 all through high school golf and ajga events...now play ie 1s.. very user friendly irons

For me, the G25 are up there. Just cannot find anything I hit as well. Coming up on five years with mine now.

 

My father also had i3 blades for about ten years. Amazing club along with the i20s he replaced them with. Although the i20s look worse after five years of use than the i3s do after ten....
