Eye 2's. Such a great influence on iron design for years and years.

Still gaming my becu eye 2's. Got em taped up to D8. I use 3-LW. As good as anything new.
I have a set of eye 2 plus with graphite shafts that are just too light did you just put the lead tape in the cavity???
Yes I did. Remember, for every SW point you increase, you weaken the shaft by 1 cpm. The difference between DG s300 and x100 is about 8-10 cpm's. Two grams=1SW point. The original shafts in mine cpm'd to an x, so now they play like a stiff.

Decided to play my '83 Ping Eye2 woods and irons for 9 holes yesterday. Enjoyed the round and shot better than my HC.

Going to play a full 18 today. Will see how that goes in a couple of hours.
They were great. Flushed the 1W of the tee and missed 3 fairways when i used it.

Here's the interesting part; the shots on the fairway were a good distance and probably only 15m shorter or so than my Mizuno MP630. One club difference only for the second shot.

My 4 mishits were not long but more importantly, did not put me in any trouble. I found my ball in the 1st cut which meant I could lay up and go for the up-and-down.

I did have some trouble hitting the 3 and 5 woods. I tend to hit down with all my woods and irons. Off the tee I can set the ball so that I sweep. Will learn to sweep with the woods of the deck.

From a historical standpoint I would have to say Eye 2. Still have a couple a friends that play them. From a completely biased, and personal standpoint, S55.

From a historical perspective it's the Eye2's. As far as the best irons of all time I'd have to say it's the current G's. I'm guessing I've had 11 or 12 different sets of Ping irons over the years and the G's have it all in my opinion.

iblades for me. I went from eye 2 - i3 blade - i10 - i25 - S55 - IE1 - iblades and iblades is the more forgiving version of S55 for me = GOAT ping iron.

Eye 2+. I wish I never sold mine. Lots of folks like the i5. I had a set and never hated an iron more. Just shows that everyone is different.

Just referring to something said earlier in the thread, are the iblades really more forgiving than s55s? Really enjoying my s55's but just wondering

I think the iBlade is a little bigger than the S55s, so that by definition makes them more forgiving. I prefer the S55 to the iblades due to feel. Overall performance is similar between the two.

Others may also opine.

As for best ping irons, I vote for i10 and the S55s. Most hated the i10.

Yay for an old thread! It is the Anser putter. But this is about irons, so for me, the ISI s is the best iron Ping ever made. But (IMO) this iron would have never been built if it were not for the popularity of the eye2 and the mistakes of the Zings. Eye 2 has had to be the club with the most impact on modern golf, from weighting to grooves...

I came from Zing 2s - went through a bunch of forged stuff, found s-59 and then s-58. S-58 was awesome, but 56 is better b/c of the less offset. But I do miss the high straight flight of the Zing 2s. Maybe I should look at i20s.

Zing 2 hit so straight...almost no workability because so straight, loved them

The first set of irons I purchased on my own were Z-Model ( Zing Knockoffs ) and I loved them. I just put my 1-LW White BECU Eye 2+ (S300) irons in the bag for a round in the morning with some old friends!

Question for the Pingers out there. I also own G5's that just got re-shafted with x200's and I'm looking to get an older set of midsize Ping irons 3-PW/UW. In the running are I5's, I10's, I15's, I20, I25. I'm a sweeper generally and normally play "07 X-Forged irons. Which of these older sets would I most likely prefer from turf interaction standpoint? Which one has the least offset? Thanks
