BEST PING IRONS ALL TIME

lawrencedc1

Recommended Posts

I was never a Ping fan, but the i5s got me interested. Never purchased them, but the i15s I just found used a few weeks ago seem to be working pretty good. I'm not thrilled about all the junk, but that junk makes them feel (or is that sound?) more like a forged iron, which is what I started with.

What's in the Swift X?

The i3+ blades.
+2

Mine have Rifle 6.5s from Wrx. Pure sweetness. Still in the bag.

And yes, I have owned a set of BeCu Eye2s as well. Just play better with the i3+ for some reason.

Do wish I still had that old copper set though. Damn. :(

Owning (or owned at one time) the following sets: Eye2 Plus No Plus, Eye2 stainless, Eye2 BeCu, ISI Nickle, ISI Becu, i3 blade, i5s, G10s and S58s I would say this:

Best peforming - tie between S58s and ISI
Most Nostalgic - Eye2 Becu
Best Looking - Tie, Eye2 and ISI BeCu

I sold the 58s and regret it.
I sold the i5s and really regret it (stupid CS lite shaft)
I sold the G10s (soles were too wide and they were just too big)
I game the ISIs (both Nickle and BeCu) and love them, like throwing darts Easier to get the long irons up with the offset
I would game the Eye2 BeCus but I just hit the ball too high with them.
I may be in the minority, but I never liked the Eye2 Plus wedge sole grind.

If Pings were any good, there would be more winners playing Pings on the PGA. Callaway irons rule the roost.

UHHHHHHH The win list for Ping including all tour's this year is amazing.....they have a lot of gold plated putters to make, and one solid gold so far.

You win for biggest ****** comment of 2010.

Eye 2 BECUs are the best.

Would they be appropriate for a newbie
My BeCu Eye 2, equipped with G Loomis Tour shafts are one of the best sets I have ever played.(Still have them, but do not play them).

For a beginner, I would recommend finding a set of Eye 2 or Eye 2+ in stainless (much less expensive, and unless abused unlikely to depreciate significantly). If the 2(s) work well then think about the BeCu's. If you need repair or regrooove, it is impartant to note that Ping will not work on BeCu irons due to the toxicity of berrylium.)

The I5's are just sick. The Eye2's were great and still some guys around bagging them. But I can think of quite a few tour players that are not contracted still playing the I5's. Love them...just love them.

lol nice. there's a few guys on tour now that have been there for years and if you check the witb pics week after week they have the same i5, i3 blades, eye 2, etc. wait didnt bubba just win with s59s?

Those cally guys just put the newest cally iron in the bag. The Ping players are playing their holy grail, and the cally guys are waiting for callaway to make something worthy of the title holy grail. Phil Mickelson would shoot in the 50's with i5's and you know it. :smilie_ping:

I forget, what was the guy swinging who just dismantled the old course and the field playing it...that's right

I've used Pings since the eye2+ days and for me the best irons are the i5's. (uk scratch and + during most of this time).

I had some i3+ irons which i really really liked, but the offset was just a bit too much.

If they built some i3+ irons with minimal offset, the nice long blade length and legal for elite play after the recent changes grooves i would immediately buy 2 sets and retire from the club purchasing game for ever.

As an aside, what the hell happened to pings easy to hit clubs in the last few years. They now all look like bricks on a stick. Massive soles. No thanks.

+1 on the Eye2 BeCu. Quite possibly the best Irons ever....from any manufacturer!

I play Ping irons, Eye 2 stainless early season to get the game in shape, and S59's once we're in "full swing" (excuse the pun!)

Eye2 though, has to be the easiest to hit, do it all iron ever produced doesnt it?!!

Oh and the SW.......well nuff said!

The Eye2BeCu's are the holy grail of Ping irons, hands down, they are with out a doubt IMO the coolest looking golf clubs ever made.

I have owned a set of Eye 2+ SS's and thought they were great but played 1/3 blades for many years and think they are great, just something about how they look at address.

Currently I am playing the I15's and they are great clubs, I did take my I/3 blades to the range with me to day and hit a few shots, I am seriously thinking about switching back to them, the amount of offset is just perfect for my eye, and while the I15 long irons are easier to hit the amount of offset in them throws off my alignment.

As others have said the I5's are great, as well as the S58's which may be the easiest to hit blade style of irons ever made...EVER.

So Best Ping irons of all time? depends on what you are looking for:
Cool factor-BeCu Eye 2's, still great performers as well
Blades-S58
Combo of forgivness and workability I15's
Pure forgivness-Rapture series.
Looks at address-I/3 blade.

Ping G400 Testing G410.  10.5 set at small -
Ping G410 3, 5 and 7 wood

Ping G410 5 hybrid-not much use.

This may be my favorite forum. I'm a Ping fan who used to play Titleist irons. 6 handicap. For my money, you can't go wrong with the i5s or the i15s. I have both sets. The i5s are very forgiving, the i15s have a better ball flight and are very long; 1/2 club on full shots.

Either way, you get a great set of irons solid thru the whole set. I had i10s for a while, but the long irons were tough to hit.

Good responses to this question BTW. Except that Callaway guy; not sure what that was about.

The only irons that I regret selling were the i3+ blades. I have tried each Ping offering since, and nothing since has suited me as well. I was thinking about ordering a set of the i3+ blades with modern shafts. I was thinking about the KBS Tours, but the AWT is an interesting idea. How do you like the AWT in these heads?

Fantastic! I've been a huge fan boy of AWT's, I too regreted selling mine and stumbled upon this set which was ordered as new 2yrs ago with AWT's factory installed, lucky. Promptly sent them back for radius grinds and haven't looked back since. I think these shafts marry this head style amazingly, simply feel like butter. Next stop back to Ping to have a bit of the offset removed, expensive but totally worth it. Should make this set pretty darn rare and highly customized Ping style! :)

That's one way to look at it, though that isn't what the thread is about.

Another way to look at it is that if YOU were good enough NOT to play Pings, you might be on Tour playing Callaways instead of posting here. Just sayin...

Started with the old Ping Zings...then Zing 2's...ISI's...I5's....I10's (didn't like those), S58's...and now S57 irons. 16 years of hitting Ping irons, and i would say the best is the S57. Technology has come a long way.
