A truely rediculous post. We are all in some way connected to this great game of golf whether we are 35 handicaps or touring pros--we all play the same game. Darren is a golfer as are we. My thoughts and prayers are with Darren and his family. He's a class act and stand up individual. Fame has no bearing on this what so ever. He is a human being, and apart of the golfing community. That's the way I see it.

I am " making a deal of it" because I know him personally and also my step mother has been in remission for 5years FROM SECONDARY BREAST CANCER!!! I know first hand how devastated my father and step mother were when given the positive initial first biopsy tests........she had multiple surgeries. I voiced my opinion which i have the right to do. Im not tryin to start any problems. But, Just because Darren golfed, and you golfed, that means your supposed to be like Oh Heather RIP im so sorry for Darren, do you do that for other random famous people's relatives that die of cancer? I doubt it. If you can relate to the situation thats understandable and a completely different story.. But saying you care because you both golf is just stupid. So i think your post was stupid.

 

Mike, I don't necessarily disagree with your position. However, it's sad when anybody dies, moreso when you can identify with the tragedy. While Darren Clarke is one of the more popular personalities on tour, I think the loss is more tragic to some because more of us associate with his role as a loving husband and shudder to think what we would do in that situation. Now while most of us don't go to hospitals just so we can associate with and mourn death, Heather Clarke's death made the news and we are aware of what is going on. Are you going to fault someone for mourning that loss? If you're not affected at all by another person's grief, regardless of your intimacy with that person, that's sad as we all are members of the world community, but it's completely within your purview. However, you do cross the line when you mock the extent to which other people deal with death. You've made your opinion known, now don't post in this thread again.

I would imagine that the people posting in this thread, aside from you, care that a human being, espcially one so young, has passed away tragically, leaving children and a class act husband behind. This class act, is in fact a famous professional golfer, which is the connection the people on this board have to him. Golf may be the connection, but not the REASON most people care that she died. For you to put any other spin on the subject is quite selfish. I've lost several family members to cancer, so yes, I can relate. However, death is death, to which we can ALL relate. We've all lost people we care about, and I find it quite refreshing to see such geniune condolences being sent out on this board. To Darren and his family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Mack I agree with you 100%. I was not at all trying to say that because we are all associated with golf we feel the pain of her passing. I was simply trying to denounce the fact that because he was famous is the reason why we are showing our support. The death of an individual goes much further beyond fame. I've experience this first hand. Again i wish Darren and his children the utmost amount of peace possible during this situation.

I just lost an uncle to brain cancer and my grandmother to cancer my last couple of weeks of college before I graduated. Lost my godmother (and my mom's best friend) to breast cancer as well.

 

It always hits hard no matter you are.
