use both Rangefinder and GPS?

Recommended Posts

I use both during the round!
so I just downloaded the SkyDroid Golf app on my phone (only $1.99).
Just got a used Bushnell V2.

I found my self using both during the round and I think I like this.

Basically from 150 yards out, Will use the GPS to get a general idea on the yardage to the green.

150 yards in, I used the Rangefinder.

Seemed to work good for me.

Anyone else use both during a round?

By the way, if you want a no frills GPS on your phone for cheap, gotta go with the Skydroid!

I have a SG5 and was thinking of getting a bushnell and using both. Like you mentioned, it would be ideal for 150 yards and in, maybe 175 and in.

Use a GX-1 to get distance to the pin, distance to bunkers, etc. Use the GPS for blind shots and layups to creeks, lakes, etc.

I pretty much only use my V2. I have some phone apps, but they take too long and I've found that they are not as accurate. Sure, I don't get a front, middle and back reading with only the lazer unless I have line of sight, but I can scope pins and targets I want or need to carry which is enough for me.

Some days I think I get behind some of you guys using a gps and rangefinder hence the 5 hour rounds.

I tried the phone apps and they were just too slow for me. I'm a big fan of a simple point and shoot rangefinder. I got behind some guys a few weeks ago that were 20-25 handicappers at best and they were using a rangefinder/skycaddie combo. They would spend 5 mins on each shot getting yardages and then duff the shot time after time. If no one is behind you then by all means use what you want but if the course is crowded please pick one and keep the pace up.

SGX and a Medalist, I love the Medalist - theres been twice where I forgot to charge the SGX and the Busnell saves the day! The SGX is awesome for new courses, it cannot be beat for the map and yardage to points.

I always will strenuously disagree with this. I'll take my way of getting a yardage over guys who spend a minute or two searching for plates in the fairway and then spend a minute or two pacing it off - or disecting a yardage book like they are on tour. Using my gps or laser takes a max of 15 seconds.

If guys spend 5 minutes getting a yardage using a laser then they are probably idiots. I highly doubt they spent 5 minutes on every shot.

I am afraid I must disagree !!! I have seen as well got stuck behind guys that take longer to play a shot after one player using
his GPS, discussing yardage with a player using his laser !!! I thought the whole premise of GPS, and laser was to give distance
to allow a better informed golfer to score better, saving time . Unfortunately, it appears that having the yardage causes more
golfers, to have more questions about a given distance !!!

I use a Garmin G3 for general distance and a Bushnell V2 Slope for approach shots. Love it.

One of my best friends that I golf with regularly uses GPS and laser in a similar manner. It works out well. It doesn't slow us down and we are quick golfers.

As for me, I have found that with the F-C-B info and being able to move the pin around the green on my G2 Golf Guru, that I can almost always estimate the lasered pin distance to within 0-2 yards from less than 200y out.

Garmin GPS and Leupold GX2. I play alot of new courses and find the GPS invaluable for a quick study in course knowledge. If I'm playing a course with which I'm familiar, I'll turn to the GX2, more often.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Been seriously considering getting a Bushnell V2 to go along with my SGX. The other day my SGX 's battery died on me on the course. My fault for not charging it, but sometimes having to keep charging the damn thing after every round can be a pain. Thought I could make it but it only went 9 holes after a full round before hand.

I have a Laser link that is reflector dependent which is hit or miss at most courses I play so a V2 should fill in the gaps nicely.

I have the Bushnell Hybrid, GPS and Laser all in one. Not as colorful and fancy as the Skycaddie, but I like it because I can just view the screen for approximate distances and shoot the laser for exact yardages. I don't have to worry about battery drainage on my phone or carrying 2 devices. Wonderful device.
