anyone play Indian Ridge Golf Club, Oxford, OH. There is a lefties tournament there soon and never been to Oxford

 

As luck would have it, I'm playing there later today. I'll let you know how it is.

played scarlet again other day. I love the course but I just don't know why they can't water. never seen a private course play half as firm. with those greens it's essentially impossible to score when its very firm.

 

Maybe they are getting ready for the Nationwide event? Not sure when that is or why they would keep it so firm. I've been wanting to get out there for a while

 

That's not for another couple months, though.

Miami Valley CC is a fairly flat, solidly routed Ross course. Just a nice golf course with a decent amount of trees. Here are a few pics:

Course was quite good. The greens were receptive and reasonably fast and the conditions were really nice. The course was pretty empty so it was nice to play in about 3h 30m

 

Anyone played in the Ohio Mid-Am (at Miami Valley)? Know anyone who did? How is the course?

 

Not planning on going there or anything, just curious.

Thanks for the input guys - looks a lot like Granville/Denison IMO. I'm sure there are a few greens out there you don't want to miss long... :black eye:

not really burned out but at same time I hit ball pretty hard and can't keep an iron on the green on half the holes even with landing it on the front. I've never seen a course so firm

Those fairways are too level to look like Denison.

 

Compared to the back nine, sure - but the front is almost entirely level.

Laurel Dieken at Able's golf on Avery. Can't say enough about her teaching. Can fix almost any problem in less than half an hour, and it stays fixed. JR Able is also wonderful from what I've overheard/seen when I'm there, but I've never worked with him so I can't speak from experience.

Joe Giles at Granville golfland is real good so is Jeff Jackson who works there was well. In Columbus Doad Edwards at OSU is a good teacher as well.

I'm looking to get a couple lessons in the Canton/Akron/Cleveland area. Ideally I would like to get lessons from someone who uses a launch monitor, preferably outdoors. Any recommendations?

JR basically taught me how to play the game. Took lessons from him at a young age and he really taught me the fundamentals. Super nice guy and I always enjoyed my sessions with him. At one point he was a top golf coach in Ohio. I would highly recommend him.

 

Sarge at Scioto CC is one of, if not the, best in Columbus (you don't have to be a member to take lessons from him). I worked with him for only a couple of hours but was very impressed. He will use video to analyze your swing and then will compare it to others he has worked with (tour players, mini tour players, D1 players and high level ams).

On a sidenote played Indian ridge yesterday and while course was in really good shape they were way overbooked and extremely slow. 4 and a half hours later were only on hole 14. Decided just to stop because of terrible pace of play and insane wind. Maybe give it one more shot this year because the condition was good but if it's that overbooked again I won't go back

We played last week mid-day and our foursome got around in 3:20. I even commented that I doubt the course is ever booked when Miami is out of session.

No sir and I say that with hindsight in mind. But this is also why I have not joined a golf club, I would not be able to golf all over as much as I do. I actually would play more if my kids were older and not so heavily involved in select sports.

 

When I move to Florida in a few years, I'll definitely join a club (River Hall) for sure, AND travel MORE in the summer months playing my bucket list golf courses.

 

I am hoping to hit 500 courses at the tail end of this trip out west.
