I'm curious why is wishon considered by many that I talk to as second tier clubs? What are they not on the same level as say scratch that every one here fawns over?

Honestly asking not trying to be rude.

If I had to hazard a guess, they are considered as such by people who haven't used them.

That perception is probably clouded by 2 things:

1. Wishon stuff can be sold to the consumer as component heads, whereas Scratch is not. Many people still, unfortunately, associate components with clones, which is not always true.

and

2. Wishon is fairly affordable, while scratch is pretty expensive. Scratch SB-1's are about $1200 a set with Dynamic Gold, whereas, if you build yourself, you can assemble a set of 555's for probably $400-$450 with Dynamic Gold.

I have only hit scratch wedges and they are nice. But Wishons are just as solid. I used to game the 919 with a GD Pm-702 and it was as good as any OEM driver. My little brother still hits that driver and a wishon fairway I built for him. My other little brother has a Wishon hybrid that I built with a NV-105 and you'd have to pry it out of his lifeless fingers.

Who are you talking to?

Having not ever hit a Wishon club (though I'm actively considering buying a set), the benefit I see to their clubs is that the clubmakers that stock them go above and beyong when it comes to custom club fitting.

I'm hoping to get custom fitted for a set this summer at www.conquestcustomgolf.com .

I've been working with the owner (well, I assume he's the owner) and will get a set that is more frequency matched, MOI matched and actually built to my specs (to what I assume are much tighter tolerances than an OEM)... that's the value I see in Wishon, it may be different for other people, or someone who is just buying "off the rack"

I think that's a great question and I am looking forward to what people's responses will be. Even if it is "I've never heard of Tom Wishon...." that is is good information to know....

BTW, Tom was right about the 575 photos vs. real life. These heads throw light in all different directions with the different angles and milling and our eyes are much better able to pick up the subtle contrasts than a camera can.

They are sharp looking to be sure...

I had never heard of Wishon until I joined GolfWRX last year. Everything I have read and seen tells me that Wishon is the real deal. I am happy with my Taylormade TP MC's and plan to keep them for a long time. That said, I plan on getting into Wishons the next time I am in the market for a new set of irons. I don't need to have a major brand in my bag. I just want the best game I can get.

Visit the Wishon golf website or read some of the posts on here...his passion for club design and customer satisfaction is extraordinary. The great thing about Wishon golf is that Tom and his staff are accessible! He is always on Golfwrx and his own web forum answering questions. That coupled with great designs says volumes.

It's because "many" people don't know very much, technically speaking, about clubs. They let the marketing people of the major OEM's tell them what's better and what's worse. These uninformed people then spread word to other non-technical people and before you know it any club that doesn't have a presence on tour or the fancy magazine ads are considered inferior.

Also, unfortunately, a good sized chunk of the component industry is making knock-off clone clubs. The good companies like Wishon and Golf Works get dragged down by the undercurrent created by these copy cat companies.

Anybody who calls them "second tier", doesn't have a clue what they are talking about.

Remember how our society works and how things things in general become considered "elite". The vast majority of the time it's the marketing hype machine and the psychology that goes along with it.

Wishon golf doesn't concern itself with "hype", which in turn weeds out a lot of the B.S and myths that go along with certain "elite" or most expensive brands.

He doesn't have the ability to hire a huge marketing staff to come up with names like Rocketballz and pay tour pros to lie for him. And he makes better performing clubs with better quality. And he answers inquiries about his products directly.

Other than that he's 'second tier'. :)

1) Scratch over charges for their clubs to conjure an image of prestige and higher quality.
2) Scratch pays endorsements to players or player on the PGA tour.
3) Wishon doesn't take out 50k ads in Golf Publications saying how you'll get 17 yards more (...when compared to the persimmon wood in your garage).

Just a few....

Kinda pointless debating why something is regarded one way or the other. Perception is reality for some folks -- others like to dig deeper. That's just how it is.

Will say that the other great thing about Wishon is their customer service. I cracked my 949MC 3 wood last week out on the course. Shot them an email with a picture of the damage and got one back straight away saying "Confirm your specs please and tell us where to send you a new head." Didn't ask how old it was, didn't ask if I was the first owner (which I am), or anything like that. Just "let's make this right." The replacement arrived at my fitter's place yesterday, which is pretty freakin' speedy considering I live in South Africa!

Thanks Tom and company.
