Longest / Hardest Course You've Played??

Mine was: Thanksgiving Point in Utah 7,728 yds! 76.2 rating 140 slope (Par 72) DID NOT break 80! Doubled the 18th for 81 :( (Shot 37-44 = 81 LOL) The back nine was over 4,000 yds and windy!! Sweet track!!

good track. pechanga is harder. tpc stadium course at pga west, silver rock, spyglass. i can go on but they r not really hard to me but. just need to not make stupid mistakes

I only know Pechanga from the whites lol
I've played the Stadium Course....still think Thanksgiving Point is harder (maybe cause i played it in the wind)
Never played the others u listed. But I'll believe you lol

Torrey Pines from the tips... we were one of the last groups to play the day they closed it for the U.S. Open in 2008. They had a couple tee boxes closed but other than those 2 holes we played it all... we figured 7500 yards plus...(7680 on the card)

Talking to the marshal, he told us they had not cut the rough yet for the tournament, so it was playing several inches higher than it did in the Open... you could drop a ball at your feet and have trouble finding it. you could not advance the ball with anything more than a SW just chopping it back to short grass.

Very cool experience, they had all the bleachers up, TV towers and the stadium seating around 18. The pin on 18 was just about where Tiger holed his putt to tie and go to the playoff with Rocco on Sunday.

Nobody in our foursome shot within 10 of their handicap and nobody shot over 90, it was brutal... even on a sunny almost windless day.

I was rambling thru my mind of all the courses I've played.
Ist that came to mind was Mauna Kea, but then, Tobacco Road, but then, Ohhhhh Yeah, Whistling Straits, 40+ winds, darn near unplayable. I think I was around 110 after 14. QUit counting.
Of note, I hit a great approach to a foot on 18 with the crowd above applauding. Little did they know how much I sucked the rest of the day.

Longest: Fightin' Joe (The Shoals Golf Club), Muscle Shoals, AL - 8092 yds from the tips - shot even par 72

Hardest: Oak Tree Golf Club (Oak Tree National now), Edmond, OK - best round is 68. Ridiculous hard in an Oklahoma summer wind (30-40 mph). I've seen some [b][u]stupid[/u][/b] big numbers posted there...

Bethpage Black. 76.6 - 148 - 7300 yds. Always tough after sleeping in your car in the parking lot to get a tee time. After the first four holes, you start to think your ok, then you get to 5, 7,9, 10 etc... It's a tough one, but the greens can be had.

Kokopelli, near St. George Utah. 7612 76.7 and 141 slope. Didn't play the tips but felt like I'd never played before by the back 9. I will play it again, beautiful course, not crowded, cheap and they give you a free lunch. Take lots of balls!

Ocean Course @ Kiawah Island. I actually feel sorry for ones playing in PGA Championship next year!!

As for the post of Tobacco Road, I really like it and have played it many times, but it really is not that hard. It is quite short (relatively). If you can keep the ball in front of you it is very scoreable.

The ones that are right on to me are:

Torrey Pines South from the tips...
Bethpage Black from the tips with the rough and fescue up...
Kiawah Ocean Course with anything more than a gentle breeze...

These three are the hardest that I have played and I was lucky enough to play all three in tournaments.

Played the Links at Crowbush on Prince Edward Island about 10 years ago. First time playing a links course. I would do better now, but the style threw me, initially.

Playacar in Cancun ate my lunch, lots of jungle time.
Princeville did too, but it didn't feel as bad.
Longest is the tips at Old Works in Anaconda, MT is a long one, but pretty open.

Mauna Kea and Mauna Lani with that kind of wind is interesting. Oakmont was tough but very enjoybable...surprised myself there a bit.

This is the course that came to my mind, rumor was when the course first opened they were going to have the capability of stretching the course to 8,000 yards! I don't have any problem using the tee it forward program there.

Toughest stretch of holes anywhere has to be the last 15-18 at Carnoustie. You've got 3 par 4s all around the 450 mark and a 250 yard par 3, not to mention water comes into play and it is usually cold and windy.

As for the toughest course, I'll go with The Ranch in San Jose, CA. Wouldn't want to play there too often! From just over 6600 yards it manages a 152 slope. WOW! Not too long but very difficult, really have to be on top of you game there. But actually, a really good design with variety and fun to test your game there every once in a while.

Lionhead Legends in Canada is pretty tough.... 7450 yards, 77.5 course rating, 155 slope. A buddy played it last year and lost 15 pro v's. Personally, as a scratch, i'd rather skip it! LOL!

A Place called thunderhill in Madison Ohio. 78.5rating/158 slope. nearly 100 water hazards. from the tips it's 7500 yards. there are 4 par 5''s #4 is 604, #8 is 620 and 18 is a brutal 596. Played there the first time 15 years ago when i was first getting seriously into golf and shot a 67, but decided to go ahead and play the back 9 anyway.

I played Thunder Hill from the tips in a two man. It was brutal.

2010 US Amateur Chambers Bay 7,742yards hard as concrete and greens running at 13 on the stimp. Played the front well, back not so much! Missed the cut by 2 strokes

Longest: Pete Dye Course at Frenchlick - 8,102 from the tips, and that's NOT at elevation. Two par threes over 300 yards. 80/148

When wind was swepting around me, I thought I was being punised by golf god!

This is one of the hardest course I ever played.

When I came back to play my home course, it felt like playing in city muni course!

For Me it was Twin Warriors in NM - 7700+ (at a mile high) 75/130. Last time I played it was several years ago and was lucky to break 90 from the tips. They used to have the NM open there and also a club pro champion tournament (to decide the guys going to the PGA) was also held there. Great course!

I was hoping someone would chime in about Chambers.. I played it a day or 2 before it shut down for the AM and it was TOUGH. Played from the tips which wasnt quite as long as your round, but still 7,585 lol. I heard a stat that during the stroke play portion the average for the ENTIRE field at Chambers Bay was somewhere near 80 (79.8 is what I heard). There were several scores in the 90s at chambers by the top amateurs in the world. By far the hardest course and toughest conditions Ive ever played. the wind blew my ball off the green after stopping 12 feet from the hole for birdie on the par 5 8th lol.

YOUCH!!...I see alot of courses i wouldn't want to play! haha But would want to atleast experience them! I'm not scratch anymore tho, so who knows lol

I've experienced USGA managed courses though (US AM / Publinx / mid), USGA can make a course EXTREMELY difficult! (Greens 12ish, rough 4-6", and LONG!)

I love golf for the challenge! But it does get discouraging! (quit golf for many years(10) because of discouraged feelings)
But I'm back! Atleast trying to get back! lol (5-7ish now)

Keep those courses coming guys! lol
